Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

I’m still finding my way with W 10, but it seems that the touch screen part of W 8 isn’t as easy to find and use. I do notice a speed difference though so I think I will update my older Dell, which has W 7. I’m going to take that one to Justin however. It has most of our important personal data so he can save it and fix any update problems as they happen.
A speed difference would be welcome. I struggle with the touch screen. I use touch on my phone so I “get” how it works but it seems like very often the computer’s screen under Windows 8 is touchy and/or won’t respond.
Hi, Jan, Diana again. It’s 2:10 p.m. I cleared the cookies out of Safari and logged back in using the old password. Now I can fierce again and comment without filling out a form!
I wish I knew WHAT to do to avoid this. I leave my laptop on all the time. If I were to sign out of everything every night and close the bloody thing, would that obviate the problem?
I think that if you close the Moose and log out that you would have no problem. I think it is the stale cookies that relate to an old session that is no longer active on your computer that is the problem. The web site undergoes overnight maintenance, some at the web host, some internally and it appears as though it sometimes knocks you off. It could also be overnight maintenance at your Internet Service Provider that makes the session cookies useless.
Think of it as a phone call. You call someone and chatter away. Then you set down your phone to go get a beverage and return and continue the conversation. But if the other person hangs up, thinking you forgot about her, the connection is broken and no amount of shouting into the receiver will get that person back. The line is dead, the connection is useless and the call has to be placed again. If you hang up when you are finished for the afternoon or evening, you can start the conversation again with a fresh connection.
Thank you, Jan. It’s going to be a nuisance to log out and then log back in again, but I’ll do it if it means less frustration.
I think it is a Safari thing. Maybe at some point Safari and WordPress will get on the same page. We can hope! If I find out more, I will let you know.
Good morning, meese! Saturday …
It is 64 degrees in Madison on it way up to 80. Cloudy skies are in the forecast.
The Aurora movie killer was sentenced to life imprisonment with no chance of parole rather than sentenced to death. The same jury that convicted him was divided on execution. Big win for those of us against the death penalty.
There appears to be some blowback to the Chuck-Schumer-Can’t-Be-Bothered-To-Support-The-President-But-Will-Still-Be-Senate-Leader story with calls for the Senate to find a better leader. I hope Harry Reid does the right thing and withdraws his support. Here is a good Democratic leader, Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) speaking after the Senate rejected defunding Planned Parenthood earlier this week:
Was that so difficult?
The Donald! JHC!! His latest comments got him kicked off the stage at the conservative bloggers convention in Atlanta today. I find it hilarious that the misogynistic Erick Son of Erick pretends to care about women being treated disrespectfully … maybe he is angry that it steals his own thunder! Meh.
The president is on vacation for 17 days. He would have to be on vacation for the rest of his presidency in order to even come close to Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush for most days off. In his case, I am glad he is not gone long because when he is presidenting, good things happen. Reagan and Bush? Meh and Meh.
Busy morning here as I try to get caught up on a quiet day. See all y’alls later!
I was surprised and pleased to see articles re Trump (and the Rs) disrespectful treatment of women on the digital front page of both of my local papers. When articles filter through to the PNW I think it reflects a national issue.
Treatment of women a topic after GOP presidential debate
Why in politics is it OK to call a woman a pig?
Good morning, Meese. Clear skies here with eighty five degrees coming up.
Yes, as someone opposed to the death penalty I am pleased.
Late yesterday afternoon I got a telephone call from a person, not a robot. It was a very well spoken man calling from an organization with a name like Concerned Citizens for something or other asking me, urging me, very politely, to contact my Congress people to defeat President Obama’s Iran Nuclear Deal which was a danger to the world or something or other. I did not let him finish. I just said that I had written Schumer and had asked him to resign. Then I hung up. I think Sen Murray or Sen Durbin would be great choices to replace Sen Reid. But, Schumer, no way.
Hope it will be a good day for all in the Pond and Beyond.
Senator Durbin is doing a great job as Senate whip but I think he is more a behind the scenes guy. I still think Al Franken would be a great Senate leader because of his dry sense of humor and his unyielding liberalism. His winning the Paul Wellstone Seat was more than just an election event: it was his passion. I hope that we have enough progressives in the Senate in January 2017 who choose to not reward Schumer for his disloyalty. Leadership is more than a title, and it requires doing the right thing for your party, not just your moneyed constituents. He has shown where his loyaltie$ lie.
There are other ways to block the veto override. The House will be in play and Nancy Pelosi is already counting heads.
The fact that we even have to think about a veto overide on one of the greatest diplomatic triumphs in recent times is mind boggling to me.
And yes, to Sen Franken. But a big no to Schumer.
Good morning, Meese! A beautiful day in the offing, clear skies, 68 F. now, 85 F. later. The sky is such a clear blue it leads me to think the humidity is low; therefore, we can turn off the a.c., open the windows, and use fans.
Nothing intelligent to say this morning, other than that The Donald may have done it this time! Caused his ratings to drop, I mean. It’ll be interesting to watch.
We toured the retirement community yesterday, looking at apartments, and exhausted ourselves in the process. Dearly has changed his mind AGAIN and now wants to move there as soon as we can downsize and get the house ready for sale. We want an apartment with a patio so it’ll be easier to take the dog out. It’s going to be a huge task to get rid of the accumulated possessions of 48 years. Wish I knew how to send my books to a poor country where they really need them. Our local library is up to its ears in donations, and many of my books are old, not modern best-sellers.
Hope it’s a good day for all at the Pond and Beyond!

Downsizing and moving is a huge task Diana. I had hoped to make more progress this week but all I managed was two bags of clothes for the local thrift store.
A friend was able to rent a condo a year prior to moving so she could furnish it and edit their belongings at a slower pace. I hope we can do something like that when it’s time to move out of here.

Thanks Jan – am a FF user – headed to update
Good morning, 62 and partly sunny in Bellingham this morning. RonK will be home later today, and my sister is arriving for a visit as well so my quiet house will soon be busy again. Maggie has been good company but staring for food isn’t a real conversation!
I will be sleeping in Sunday morning so the new week post may be later than normal.
