Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: July 17th through July 23rd

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Good morning, 63 and partly sunny in Bellingham. Another quiet day ahead for me, but the good news is that the arthritis flare I’ve been struggling with seems to be easing. We postponed our daughter’s family visit for a week with the hope more quiet/rest/elevation/ice/etc would help. Arthritis is so unpredictable it’s hard to know what makes a difference, but walking less and resting more does mean less pain. So that’s my plan for today.

    Have a good day everyone!

  2. Hi Meeses – checking in late as usual on the weekend – weather the same as it’s been all week. Still well under 400 KWHs for the month. Got my grocery shopping and half my cooking done for the coming week. Playing some catch-up from being gone a week.

    Not going to say I didn’t want Perez because I did but the main thing I had against Kaine was the main thing I had against Warren, Brown, and Franken – they’re sitting Senators. Basically the more I hear about Kaine the more I like him. Several people at the Farmers’ Market and also at the grocery store asked me about him (I was wearing my “I’m with Hillary” button I got at NN from Darcy Burner’s son) and that’s pretty much what I told them. The misson year in Honduras where he not only learned Spanish, he learned idiomatic Spanish – that he still has 30 years later – impressed some. The AA city council that appointed him as Mayor of Richmond impressed others. His stance on guns, his community work once he got his law degree, and his solid ratings from everybody – Planned Parenthood to unions – impressed some more. And it didn’t hurt that Obama had Kaine on his short list back in 2008. And while I hate it, I think that Obama needed a white Veep to reassure folks antsy about a Black president and Hillary needs a white male Veep to reassure folks antsy about a woman president. sigh.

    Bright the day. {{{HUGS}}}

  3. If anyone has doubts about Hillary’s decision to pick Kaine, I suggest you watch the video of today’s spectacular rollout – don’t have the link any more, but it’s widely available. Kaine completely won me and a LOT of other people over. It was really great.
