Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Dec. 25th through Dec. 31st

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Fair and cool here in NoVa this morning, Moosekind, with the current temp. at 25 F. on its way up to 46 F. today. As we have no child or dog care responsibilities at present, we’d like to take a little drive somewhere.

We’ve been invited to a little party at the neighbors’ house tonight, but as I’m on a diet I wouldn’t be able to eat or drink anything. We’re too old to stay up for the ball drop, anyway.

Have got to get my brain back into activism mode. What with the Brownies’ cookie drive, the need to contact my senators and my Rethug Congress critter, plus a local town hall that will be held on January 7, my plate is going to be quite full.

Wishing everyone a quiet, peaceful New Year’s Eve. Goddess knows what the new year will bring.

  2. Good morning Meese on the last day of 2016.
I wish we could fast forward to 2020.

Am going to go to bed early – set alarm to wake to watch the ball drop and go back to sleep.

    • We actually need to fast forward to January 2021. :)

The New Year has already arrived in New Zealand:

I will go to bed early and wake up refreshed.

  3. 40 going to 50 on this last day of a very stressful 2016. It looks to be partly cloudy but the sun is clear so I may get some decent generation today. It would have to be better than decent to get me to 150 KWHs for the month – it would have to be the best day of the month as I need 7.9 KWHs to make it and the best thus far has been 7.6 – but it’s going to be closer than I was afraid of several days ago. Let that be the same for 2017 – that while we won’t get what we want, we won’t get nearly as bad as we’re currently afraid of.

We’ve lost a lot this year. People and dreams. Both hurt and we’re not going to “get over it” – ever. But we will get used to it and we will go forward. And there are many things of 2016 I would not give back. Meeting Dee in St. Louis being high on the list. And even though I’m not very good at it and it’s very time consuming, my community work at GOS is another. So forward we go. 2016 has been our 1940 as far as the WWII analogy goes. Fall of France and things looking desperate. It’s up to us to bring ourselves and our allies together over the next 2 years so that 4 years from now we’re in as good a position as our side was in 1944.

    Got to go get some groceries then get back to writing the Street Prophets diary for today. Bright the day and wind to thy wings, Meeses. May be back today but definitely will see you in the New Year. {{{HUGS}}}

  4. Good morning, 35 and cloudy, but no snow yet. We plan to be with our New Years Eve neighborhood group again this year, but we’ve simplified the plans…….hor d’s at one house, dessert at another, and a toast to the new year on east coast time so we can all go to bed on west coast time! We eliminated the dinner part of the evening, but will still share quotes and talk about the books we have read this year. It the forecasted snow makes the hill we live on slippery we’ll have to regroup. RonK could walk to the neighbor’s houses but I’ll need a sled!

I’m still aching from the horrible election. I feel so helpless just watching the mess unfold. I don’t want to passively accept a tRump presidency, but I have no way of stopping it. My bubble of well being is very thin some days.

I am grateful beyond words to see the improvement on our son’s health though. He continues to gain stamina and is working closely with his medical team. Needless to say the R’s focus on making it financially harder for him worries and infuriates me. His insurance coverage is safe and affordable for the next year, but the uncertainty about what’s to come is very hard to accept.

For some reason this song is singing to me today…..

    • The repeal of the Affordable Care Act is not a given. There is quite a bit of Republicans In Disarray still going on. All we need to do is peel away 3 Republican Senators who think that Repeal and Delay is a bad idea and that any repeal has to have a replacement. President Obama is meeting with Democratic Party lawmakers next Wednesday to strategize and then will be doing a livestream about the ACA on Friday, January 6th (I posted some information in the Weekly Address).

Hang in there, princesspat, our party still has some fight left in it.
