Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Jan. 1st through Jan. 7th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Good morning, meese! Saturday …

    It is -2 in Madison with an expected daytime high of 7. Sunny skies are in the forecast. No wind so no windchill but single digits are still cold!

    I want to say something about the “revelation” that Russia intervened in our election in an effort to get their guy elected. It sucks and it should not have been allowed to happen. To the extent that it did work, it would not have worked without the complicity of our lazy press and our dishonest TV news media. But remember: our focus is to win some statehouses, to get Congress back, to resist the things that Paul Ryan has queued up to destroy everything we hold dear. We can’t focus on “we wuz robbed!” for the next 6 months, or two years or four years. We have to focus on how we can get people to vote in every election – and to vote for Democrats even if it is not their first choice. There are two parties and one of them wants to kill us. If we are not active members of the other party, they will.

    I am going to post Michelle Obama’s inspiring speech and then the President’s Weekly Address, his penultimate. I am going to focus on the words of our First Family who will always be my First Family.

    See all y’all later.

  2. Good Saturday morning Meese
    18 degrees here in Saugerties

    Celebrating the birthday of Zora Neale Hurston today

    I’m gonna miss Key and Peele:

    • I have that video up in a tab to view after I get caught up on a few projects. I found it on Twitter!! ;)

  3. Good morning, Meese! Guess what, it’s actually snowing here. It was supposed to happen in the wee hours but I guess the snow didn’t get the memo, because it’s happening now. I’ll see if Dearly Beloved can drive me to the Town Hall meeting at 10 this morning.

    We seem to have found a tenant for our downstairs suite. He seems very nice, and has a 7-year-old daughter who will be company for Monty Beagle and our Miss Pink Cheeks. It’s probably only for six months while he finds his feet up here after moving from Dallas, but that’s fine with us.

    I am stupefied by the reaction of the Rethugs to the news about the Russians. Thought they hated Commies! The hatefulness of the vampire Ryan is not to be believed. Ugh.

    It’s time to eat my porridge and get ready for the meeting. Wishing a good day to all!

    • Report back! I am anxious to hear how the tRumpkins on the ground (as opposed to those I see on Twitter) are reacting to the news that there will be no wall, no jobs, and no swamp draining – plus losing their health care!

      • Oh, dear, I’m not going after all. The Virginia State Police are advising people to stay off the roads, as there have already been 106 crashes and a deputy sheriff has been seriously injured.

        Sorry to be such a wimp, but over the course of my checkered career I had to drive in snow too many times to want to risk it now. The resulting fender-benders are very expensive to repair.

  4. Stayed home from workout. I can either do cold or carry a zillion Kleenex, both is asking a little much. I never saw any snow yesterday, though apparently there was some. Hanging out till Joy Reid’s show, and I hope I’ll feel up to walking this afternoon. Leaving work yesterday was so weird, but I know it was right — I slept for 2 hours & still slept all night last night.

    • Glad you got a good night’s sleep. That’s when healing happens. Have some more Healing Energy to help in that endeavor. {{{HUGS}}}

  5. 0 at dawn and 4 now – postponing my usual Saturday morning shopping until we hit double digits (supposed to around 10:30 or so). Sun is shining brightly but until it sublimes the snow off the solar panels I will get diddly generation (got 1.2 KWHs yesterday so about 2/3s of what it would have been without the snow cover) – the quality of today’s sunlight, should it stay clear, would have given me another 8 KWH day.

    For Christmas an anonymous somebody gave me one of Wings’ silver charms (like for a charm bracelet type charms) which practically exudes spiritual energy. I don’t wear bracelets – or much jewelry at all – but I got a strong urge/message to hang it from the safety pins I’ve been wearing since the election. Don’t know where the Energy is going, but I know it’s going out to do good work in the world somewhere and it’s part of my “Resistance” efforts. As are my fundraisers for what good they’re doing at the moment. I will Resist politically where I can, but spiritually everywhere – to me that means acts of Loving Kindness to help overwhelm the Hate that has taken political control of my country.

    Need to go work on my Street Prophets diary since I’ll be doing my shopping during the time I normally work on the diary. heh. Stay warm (and safe) everybody. Bright the day and wind to thy wings, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  6. Good morning, 20 and partly cloudy in Bellingham. I’ve had computer issues today. Something mysterious happened between the modem and router in the basement study, the wireless router booster upstairs, the wireless settings on our computers and a Kaspersky update. So I’ve been trudging up and down, resetting everything, and following along with Windows diagnostics as best I can. Something must have worked because I’m reconnected again……one mess cleaned up, many more standing by.

    I’ve been in a tRump state of worry again, and that combined with the inevitable holiday crash has left me unable to complete all the multiple tasks I’ve started. So I’ve got a day of possibilities ahead :)

    So I’ll muddle along…hope you all have more productive and happier days than I seem to be facing!
