It Takes A Village: VNV 2-15-17

In honor of Lysis’s orginal Hillary News & Views, welcome to

The Village New & Views
Wednesday Get Over the Hump Free for All

This Week In Music:

So, the Grammys… I have the patience of a toddler when it comes to awards shows so I’m not going to try and do anything comprehensive here, but I picked out some tweets that hit things I was interested in. Then there was that lady with the Make America Great Again dress. So that happened. Some other things did also…

There was a lot more, some great, some eh. Among the great, moving tribute to George Michael by Adele, and kick-ass tribute to Prince by Bruno Mars. You either saw them or you can find them. But post below what you thought was significant, that I left out.

And now, a brief jaunt into the land of rainbows and kittens, ’cause the real world is a little stressful right now. Except it isn’t, as you will see. Rather than a lovely escape, this fantasy Twitter account @IfHillaryHad started a little wistful, and has become some awesome satire.
(language warning: Alt-HRC does not mince words cusses like a sailor)

  1. 27 degrees in Chicago metro…. and Trump is panicking right now…. GOOD.

    Morning all!

    • Morning reesetheone! Awww is widdle Donnie feeling the heat? AWESOME! ;) Crank up that fire!

    • Morning inkaudlay! How’s it going? It’s nippy here in Houston and I forgot to turn on the heat! Or get the coffee started! Ack! BRB! <3

  2. {{{MomentaryGrace}}} – I’m soloing this morning in the office so late here and haven’t even read it yet but i’ll be back as soon as i can. I know it’s good because you are. :) Back in a bit.

    • Eeeee! Vote of confidence! Hehehe… hopefully you mean you know it will be at least a little silly. Cause I am. ;) Soloing at work not usually fun, hope your day goes as smoothly as possible. <3

      • A nice balance of light-hearted silliness and serious analysis of the deep kimchee we’re in is a good thing. I’m able to check back more often than i’m able to comment. Smoothly is not something this office does, but the sun’s shining and I’m hanging in there. moar {{{HUGS}}}

        • So much of what needs to happen now is in the hands of the GOP Congress, which is 100% conflict of interest. Maybe if there are enough loud calls for an independent special prosecutor, plus a few more damning “leaks” (thank you, intelligence community), there might be enough uproar that they will be forced to go there. Let it be so.

          • One of my senators is supporting this; my senator who is running in 2018 and is becoming increasingly cautious as a result, has not come out with a statement yet. This is a topic well worth calling about, particularly if you have a D senator.

  3. As we all know, you don’t fuck with the CIA.
    I had a feeling that could be his downfall.

    • It’s easy to imagine this ending like some cartoon, with the Donald and his crew running for the horizon followed by a hoard of angry enemies brandishing oversized knives and shotguns….

      Except. This is real. No one would buy it as a book or a movie…

    • I never thought I’d see the day where I was rooting for the CIA and the other alphabet soup intelligence agencies. But then, I’d never thought I’d see the day when Americans elected a fascist nincompoop either.

      And thank you, Grace, for this musical interlude. I don’t usually watch the Grammy show; I’m more of a Tony girl. But in the interests of not channeling my parents (who never moved beyond the Big Band era), it’s nice to be able to listen to these snippets and update my pop culture cred!

      • I lean on VonsterTX for much of my pop culture cred, she’s the one who watches these things, I just walk through the room, and let her spoon feed me highlights, but there were definitely some political moments in the performances, and some cultural and human interest in the wins and reactions. :)

  4. Good morning, Pond Dwellers! What an excellent post to start my day. Thank you, Grace. It’s just the perfect note for hump day.

    • I had a lot of this put together before the Flynn resignation and thought about trashing it for something serious but events are too crazy to keep up to the minute so I went with the fun instead. But, remember “drip drip drip”? It’s happening now to the Guy Who Cheated. Revenge isn’t anywhere near as good as having a real President, but it’s better than stewed fish.

    • Oooh I love it from the title! Does it end with, “…if we don’t mercifully tickle them to death them first”? ;)

    • Great article….the cognitive dissonance right now is overwhelming, scary even, the alt-left are so deluded and brainwashed by this cult of personality.

      Hillary, who actually has accomplishments and credits to her name (ex: CHIP), not to mention the most impressive résumé of any presidential candidate, and who voted with the Great Brogressive Saviour 93% is apparently evil?

      She won the Primary by 4m votes but was apparently a terrible candidate?

      She earned 3m more votes than Trump, in the face of media malpractice, the collusion of her opponent with a foreign government and the alt-left but no one likes her?

      Getting 3m more votes than Trump is apparently the success of the voters, not Clinton. But her loss is her fault and her fault alone?

      She apparently wasn’t a better candidate than Slanders, she only won by the DNC ‘putting their finger on the scale’. But she lost the GE due to her own failure entirely, you must not reference that Russia, Comey and the media ‘put their finger on the scale’!

      And finally, the Dem Party is apparently a bunch of incompetent morons who can’t fight and aren’t doing anything right now, but they were strong enough to vanquish Saint Slanders the Panderer?

      • I love this comment, I give this comment 1000 fierces. :D

        Go go Captain Black Dog!
      • {{{CBD}}} – that about covers the Alt Left attitude. They are now and always have been the “enemy within” – and we’ve got to find a way to get the microphone away from them at least until we can circumvent then break up the corporate-ownership of the media.

  5. Hi Meeses I’m just finding the pond this morning…for some reason I’m not getting the email alerts I signed up for today…Great post MG…love alt-POTUS45…and that vid of Bill…love that they can make fun of themselves…trump might be shaking in his boots but the general public doesn’t know what’s going on…no mention what so ever on our local news…

    • Hi shenagig! Good to see you here on Moose Pond! This post is nearly the same as what I put on dk, just pared the Alt-HRC part down a tiny bit for that particular environment. Almost disappointed we haven’t had any pokes today from the Purists… wait, no, I’m not. :)

      It will probably take a little longer for this to filter down to the folks who aren’t hanging on social media all day, but that low rumble you hear is the beginning of an avalanche, I do believe that. And it’s coming for that poser in the WH and all his minions.

  6. So apparently, Rachel Maddow did a story on the GA-6 race last night. This is the headline from the blog: DCCC weak contesting Georgia district Trump barely won, and here is the link to video of the segment: http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow/watch/democrats-weak-contesting-georgia-district-trump-barely-won-877467203665

    I know this, not because I watched Rachel last night, but because there is much hyperventilating on my FB feed about ZOMG STUPID DNC!!!!!!! (Note that this was apparently a segment about the DCCC, but what are consonants except a reason to vent?) May I also point out, again without having watched the segment I linked, that one of the Dem candidates, Jon Osoff, has been supported by the netroots (particularly DK) and is sitting on a significant pile of cash? And that what he needs right now is volunteers even more than money? Or would that be toopragmatic of me?

    • lol (but not really) I noticed that one. And I immediately thought…Republicans are ride or die for Trump…literally watched him brag about sexual assault on video and don’t think they need to investigate whether he colluded with Russia to win the election.

      But the Left is losing it’s mind and tearing down the Party because it isn’t supporting a candidate the way they want it to?

      This is why we can’t have nice things.

    • {{{DoReMI}}} – this is why we need to find online and offline groups of actual Dems to work with. the Alt-left is going to do nothing except try to destroy the party from within. The only way to stop them is to strengthen our Dem groups until we can shove them somewhere they can rant but not get in our way while we do the work they insist should magically happen without work.

    • And just went over to DK for the first time today…it’s not just my FB feed accusing the DNC of doing it all wrong (when this is within the purview of the DCCC). Aren’t these the same people who whinge about the ongoing, (admittedly) hyperbolic emails from the DCCC? The same DCCC which was outraised by the NRCC by more than $2 million in January?

      Am I going to use every post to ask rhetorical questions? :D

      • It’s why we started building the Village by the Moose Pond. I understand why some folks want to keep a Dem (as opposed to Alt Left) presence at DK – but I’m not sure it’s worth the tummy upset.

        • Now that I make this my first stop in the morning, the upset has lessened significantly. I still drop in at DK daily, because the front page usually has news that I might not see otherwise…and I do love my morning APR. But the rest isn’t worth my time or trouble.

          And Puzder has withdrawn as nominee for Labor? happy dance!

          • I’m still at DK for 1) the PWB Peeps community, 2) the remnants of the Village still there (btw SBG hasn’t been there for a week now, wish she’d join us here as well as over at ccotenj’s place), and 3) my community fundraisers. The last is getting nowhere fast but I’m going to keep doing them anyway. The 2nd is slowly drifting into oblivion – with probably the Evening Edition going to hang on the longest. And the 1st, well, that is what kept me at DK during all the primary fights and rox/sux wars since 2008.

            And wonderful no putz i mean puzder for Labor, but wonder how long we can manage to keep some of these positions vacant so the career people can keep doing their jobs and keeping the government working.

          • May I make a suggestion for you to mull over? Pare down on the community fundraiser postings; not the content, just the quantity. Maybe just post them each evening in SJohnson’s diary. Or if you post them in every diary, switch to a M-W-F posting. The reason I say this is that familiarity does breed a form of contempt, and I found myself just starting to scroll by them after awhile. It’s just something to think about…or not!

            And is there anyone else doing what you do in other diary series? It kind of irks me that when the admins gave us our spanking, they did point out how much they liked that particular portion of the diaries. So why I aren’t they asking more communities to do the same?

          • I do a ‘full version’ on my Street Prophets diaries Wednesdays and Saturdays – which you are correct, nobody reads even if they visit the diaries, rec and even sometimes comment. I do them in the Village and a very short version in KTK, pootie diaries, other Street Prophets and anything Ojibwa does that isn’t itself a fundraiser.

            And I’m not sure why the Admins seemed to like them, but I do get a lot of people who are not in our Village group ‘appreciating them’ so I guess they didn’t have a choice or something.

            And I’m really not sure what else I could do – but the reason I do them is the diaries for each person roll off the sidebar in about 2 hours. if somebody – namely me at this point – doesn’t keep posting the links, they’re gone. sigh.

          • There’s also this, intended or otherwise, they probably act as insulation from hostile derailing first strikes at the top of the thread. ;)

          • Admins like them, because “building community” is a large part of the mission pushed by Navajo and others on staff. (The fact that they don’t get that they destroyed one of the strongest communities on DK is beyond ironic.) Whatever works for you; when I noticed I was scrolling past, I tried to do better. But now that I’m finding it easier and easier to stay away from DK, I won’t see them anyway. The important people at DK (those who weren’t Hillary supporters) can pick up the slack. If you ever give us a heads up here about a particular emergency, I’ll do what I can though!

          • Look in the messages posted to the Group Village. There are messages explaining what happened.

          • {{{Diana}}} – the migration to the Moose Pond started because they bojo’d rto and Batch and sent warnings to most of the other writers of the Village diaries. Jabberwoky shared the warning with the other admins and editors in a group kosmail. The warning started by praising the community links comments – which in the Village diaries are not just my communities needs comments but include links to “what to do next” diaries and such – I generally post 6 comments under the lynx of which only a third are community needs and Kos Katalogue, the rest are “going forward” things they deny we do in the Village.

            Then the “meat” of the warning continued with every accusation the Berners have ever made about us from “relitigating the primaries” to our only purpose being Hillary worship/trashing Bernie – any of which they could have seen wasn’t true by simply showing up in the diaries and reading them. Since they obviously were listening to Berner complaints without investigating and equally obviously were targeting writers (and some frequent commenters) we decided we’d best have a back-up place to go. Most of us came here although ccotenj created his own Village blog (#shutupbernie). So rto and Batch are splitting their time between us and some of the other DK Villagers are starting to do the same.

          • I get a lot of news from carefully managed news feeds that have evolved over the years but I never found a good substitute for the APR. I couldn’t find a way to read only it without getting the splatterings of the frustrati on me so I had to give it up.

    • I saw a bit of that last night as well and was reminded why I finally gave up on Rachel during the election. She has a purist bent to her and likes to metaphorically shake her finger, with an arch little smile. You can’t tell me she doesn’t know the narratives out there and could not have framed the story in a more helpful rather than chiding/condemning way. This is the same Rachel who softballed Jane Sanders during the primary and KellyAnne during the election. Sometimes her heart is in the right place, but other times… she enjoys a bit too much glee at the Democratic Party’s expense. I don’t mind constructive criticism. Glee, however…

      • I’ll have to watch the segment when I leave work, but I’ve seen Rachel in that mode enough to know what you mean. I wonder if she even knows about the $550K+ raised through DK for Jon Osoff, because that seems like a pretty significant amount for a GA special election. If the DCCC isn’t contributing money, I wonder if it’s because they’ve seen his COH and figured he’s in a good place. The fact that he’s also one of four Democrats running makes me think the DCCC would stay out of it unless it ends up going to a run-off. Wouldn’t they?

        • It makes sense to me, and I have to say I didn’t watch the whole segment, just enough to start feeling annoyed and switch. I was also thinking that looking for the DNC to do a lot before the party chair election is kind of silly, once that’s settled, that would be the time to lay out the strategy for up coming elections… but I’m relatively unversed in these things.

        • Yes, the Party stays out of primaries. The DNC, DSCC, DCCC and official state and local party do not take sides in the primary. Dem fundraising money is not spent on Dem v. Dem. Going against the Rs is too expensive to waste that money on intra-party warfare.

    • I went into two diaries pointing out that fact. We have two credible candidates, Osoff and Slotin, with Osoff having the backing of the state and Dem leadership.

    • HAHAHA!!

      ZOMG STUPID DNC!!!!!!! (Note that this was apparently a segment about the DCCC, but what are consonants except a reason to vent?)

      Everything is the DNC’s fault! Last night on Twitter there was a report that some people in the audience at a Tom Perez event told him that he must support the primary opponent for any Democrat who votes for any tRump nominee. Hello? The DNC Chair does not pick candidates or support primary candidates, except in the fevered imaginings of the puristas. The DNC chair will be tasked with re-establishing the 50-state plan to rebuild state parties which will in turn, we hope, find good candidates for every single legislative seat. For a supposed “grass roots” revolution, these folks are sure into worship of the “top down”.

  7. Tooting my own megahorn here:

    I’ve been feeling way out of sorts until I finally figured out what I CAN DO. I set up a local chapter of indivisible for Deaf people. We are focusing on access issues (getting interpreters for rallies, etc), on local laws and initiatives relating to deaf people (education bills, etc), sharing resources such as captioned videos about what’s going on as well as reporting and news signed in ASL streaming (we have several deaf owned media companies who do terrific work online).

    I feel so much better. It’s something i can do because I have no car, and no free time! But sitting on a computer and organizing information, I can do.

    We aren’t Indivisible yet. We are barely just at the “what the hell do we do? What do we want to do? how do we do it?” stage. :)

    If you know of any organizations that provide training for this, let me know. Obama’s organization hasn’t gotten started up yet, so…

    • {{{melaka}}} – wonderful! This is why community works, why we are stronger together and in fact only strong together – each of us has strengths to bring to the community, just as each of us has placees we’re not as strong or not strong at all. A strong community has enough strengths, enough solid skillsets, to overlap and protect the entirety of the community. And each member feels stronger when bringing his/her unique strength to the community. moar {{{HUGS}}}

    • This is BRILLIANT, Mel. This is so necessary and so inspiring and…have I said BRILLIANT yet?

      Does your state party have a “disability” caucus? There might be some allies there who can answer some of the questions you have. (And thank you for pointing out the need for captioning on the MDP video I provided the other day; I contacted the MDP and our Michigan disability caucus about that issue.)

      And while Obama’s organization isn’t up and running yet, OFA is still around. They might also have resources you can tap into.

      Good luck and keep us updated.

    • Good for you! I think that is one of the stressors of Trump’s presidency, he’s so erratic and out of countrol you never know what to expect and the uncertainty breeds the fear and anxiety, but if you’re organizing and have a plan and working towards goals it makes you feel in control and so much better :)

      • That’s it exactly. Having a plan and doing something, even if it turns out not to work, is always good. If it works, wonderful. If it doesn’t, well, things that don’t work sometimes tell you a lot more about what to do next than something that does work. So you use that information, and try something else. (Worked for FDR. And is one of the reasons why he’s so well respected. He kept trying – and kept the nation trying.)

    • Chiming in to say this is great, and a very Hillary thing to get involved with – see a need, find the skills, get something going – practical. Proud of you!

  8. Wow you guys are sure morale boosters. Glad that Puzder went down, so who’s next, kelleybrat or Spicey?

    • My money is on Spicer. Kell-iar is still showing the requisite loyalty, and I think that’s what 45 expects and needs.

      • I don’t care nearly as much for his mouthpieces as I do for his appointments and advisers. I want them going down like ninepins – take the mouthpieces down later or let them go down when he does.

  9. Thank you for this great Village report here at the Pond, Momentary! LOVE the Alt#45 tweets—OMG, they are so funny.

    I seem to be missing getting here at the right time. Can only plead Real Life and errands.

    Hello, everyone!

    • {{{Diana}}} – the “drill” so far is to post around 8 am central and then visit throughout the day as time allows. So basically the right time is when you get here. :) rto tomorrow and Batch Friday.

      Don’t have a Saturday author yet – I recommended JanF’s Fighting Back post last week. I think folks split their time between the Weekly Welcome and that. And we’ll cross our fingers that Michael will cross-post his British Breakfast again this week.

    • Hi hi Diana in NoVa! Glad you enjoyed the humor, I just could not help myself, plus, as things started to get crazy this week, I noticed @IfHillaryHad’s posts were getting sharper and sharper in reaction and realized it wasn’t just fun, it was some damn fine commentary. ;)

    • You’re welcome whenever you get here. I’ll be back and forth for about an hour, hour and a half max, then I log off for the night. {{{Mvgal92691}}}

      Oh, and rto should have tomorrow’s diary and Batch on Friday – they post around 8 am central and then we visit when we can through the day. moar {{{HUGS}}}

  10. Great job on diary MGrace, was left speechless when my wife asked me if she looked like Beyonce when she was pregnant. Oh Boy.

    • LOL!!!! So, what did you answer? :D

      Glad you enjoyed the post. {{{{{{{Philly76}}}}}}}}

    • Did you ask “at which stage of the pregnancy?” – it would make a difference. Beyonce isn’t going to look like Beyonce at the 9th month.

  11. Good evening folks. I’m still visiting the original Village once or twice a day. It is amazing how diminished it is. Also doing some Twitter including with some of you. I guess the good news is how fast the trump ship is taking on water.

    • Hi kathy from pa! Thanks for coming by Moose Pond! The Village on dk is indeed diminished, I think it would take an apology from the mods to get people to come back, and that’s not gonna happen unfortunately. But I will keep checking in there daily or as much as I can.

    • {{{kathy from pa}}} – yes, the original Village is going down. Which is what the Admins had in mind when they bojo’d or warned our most prolific writers and commenters. But if we can bring enough of the original Village here to the Moose Pond, we can build it up again. And yes, it is good news that the R administration is in trouble.

      I’m logging off now. Don’t forget rto has Thursdays – he posts around 7 or 8 am central (I don’t remember which) – I’ll be here sometime after 8 once I’ve dealt with my work emails. Take care and moar {{{HUGS}}}

  12. I think only you would understand when I say, this was like a field of dead cows…nice.
