Good morning, meese! Saturday …
It is 27 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 37. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. Tomorrow we hit the 50s.
ThinkProgress has a piece titled “Winter is not coming. We need winter.” which discusses the problems that an early spring (and an early spring late frost) can cause. Meanwhile, in Republican dumbfkistan, the budget calls for pretty much shuttering NOAA’s satellite division in order to shift money to the military. Similar cuts are planned at EPA. This is what happens when you need to “find” $54 billion – you cut millions out of hundreds of programs that are already running on a shoestring budget. Science loses first.
Next week will bring the first set of actual committee votes on the ACA Repeal and Replace bill. The House bill (Ryan’s) will not pass in the Senate and the Senate has no bill that they have coalesced around probably because they know that there is no bill they could come up with that will pass in the House. I think we have a firewall in the Senate against Repeal Only and Repeal and Delay. The only concern at this point is that the Replace is spun in such a way that people don’t realize that their representatives just voted away their health care. Considering that 63 million people voted for a vulgar talking yam, that is not out of the question.

Than you, Denise for sharing Miriam Makeba’s story. When I clicked on the video I was expecting to just hear her sing. To have her story incorporated into the video gave little ol’ me the needed background to more appreciate what she accomplished. Amazing woman!

Gods, what a troglodyte that guy is! Speaking strictly from my own experience, I have observed that most women are more intelligent than most men. Women manage the life support systems of other people as well as their own: men manage their own. I sometimes whisper to Miss Pink Cheeks, “Girls are smarter than boys, but don’t tell the boys.”
This doesn’t mean I discount the intelligence and lovability of my three grandsons. But I do know that, sooner than I’d like, Miss PC is going to be made to feel inferior to the male sex. Her loving friendships with the other girls in Japanese Immersion and Brownies will give way to female cattiness and competition for the attention of males. If I teach her nothing else, I’m going to instil in her the idea that she, with her great intelligence, curiosity, and kindness, has more to get up for in the morning than the hope that some boy will say “hi” to her in the hallway.
I am a fan of single-sex schools, a concept that sits ill with some feminists. I’ve attended a single-sex school (St. Mary’s Academy in 1959-1960), and observed for myself what a difference it made. Girls weren’t afraid to speak up. Girls came to school in the uniform, not with their adolescent busts popping out of tightly buttoned cardigans. To me it is no accident that Hillary Clinton, whom I admire more than any other woman in public life, attended a woman’s college.

Good morning, Moosekind! Sunny and freezing here in NoVa, currently 28 F., but going up to 40 F. later.
Have a very full day planned: off to a follow-up fitting for my hearing aids, then to the gym for training, home for lunch, and then we’re picking up Miss Pink Cheeks at tea time. She and I will go shopping for the ingredients for tonight’s dinner, then we’ll come home and make it. She says she’s never cooked a meal in her life. We’ll have spinach salad, baked ziti, and for afters, roasted fresh pineapple. I teach her to count the number of colors in the meal when she has dinner with us, so she’ll know about balance. After her bath we’ll watch “Whale Rider,” which features a very adventurous and special girl, until bedtime.
The Moose was a pain this morning. Sometimes it’ll let me log out and log back in again, but this morning I had to “Clear history.”
Help for the old and clueless: Can a person have more than one operating system on Apple devices? I’m afraid to make Chrome my browser on anything because Apple has a frightful habit of making us update. I won’t update on my laptop, but am reluctantly forced to do it on the iPhone and iPad. People are following me on Twitter and yet I’m not even on it! Jan said to switch browsers, which I think is a good idea, but as I said, I feel funny about doing it. Most people, I understand, use their phones to twit—er, tweet. I’m getting a new one next week, so I’ll try it then.

You can only have one operating system on Apple devices (well, you can use Boot Camp on Macs) but you should be able to use Chrome as your default browser on both Macs and iPad/iPhone. Just double-check to make sure Safari hasn’t taken over.

Slept in, and then just stayed in bed a while. A rainy, cool day. I have a lot of cooking to do this weekend. All 3 meals (I try to cook so that I never have more than 2 meals worth that run out at the same time, but sometimes they do) Hope everyone saw Rachel Maddow last night — she is all over the stuff with Russia.
Not sure what it is today in Fay, AR – sunny if a bit hazy and cool enough to need a jacket (and a fire) but not cold. Just a hair under 50 KWHs for the month to date at the moment with a probable (unless clouds move in) 60 by the end of today’s generation. Great start to the month!
Got my shopping done, need to start making stock so I can make soup tomorrow. Need to add someone to my community needs list as soon as he gets a fundraiser site set up. I know I’d have to buy a lottery ticket to win the lottery but… sigh. But it’s my chosen part of community building and The Resistance. Even as it pains me that folks are in these situations.
Need to write my Street Prophets for today – and soon considering it goes up in less than 5 hours. Be in and out of course. Bright the day and wind to thy wings, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
