Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

47 heading for 67 and hopefully it will clear off so I can get some electricity this last day of March. Need to find some energy of my own somewhere. sigh. Oh well, one of my grandsons turns 13 today – I’ll drop by the party after work but can’t stay long. Which is really OK by 13 y.o.s – yeah, nice to have the hug and present from grandma but let me get back to my game with the guys – LOL. But I’ll be able to eat the pizza anyway since it will be gluten free :)
Hope this being the end of the week and month I’ll get a little movement with the community needs folks (other than the little bit I put in myself – I never put anybody on the list I’m not also giving to, but I don’t have much and spreading it among the 9 on my “carry forward” list plus the 3 on my DK Village only list means it’s just a driblet each). Have to focus on my community needs stuff simply because the political stuff is overwhelming. Which I knew it would be. They gishgalloped this lot of Deplorables into Power and they are gishgalloping away the progress we’ve made in the last 100+ years. I make my calls and send my cards on the issues I’ve chosen to focus on – and trust my allies to cover the rest. i must. I cannot do it all myself and I’ll only burn out trying.
Need to check in with the Village at the Moose Pond and then get to work. Bright the day and wind to thy wings, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 41 and partly sunny in Bellingham. I’m slow this morning, but trying to go to the pool regardless. It’s been a busy week and I’m glad it’s nearly over.
Not an April Fools post – on April first
Don’t know if there are any women’s basketball fans here – my husband is a fanatic – he loves women’s bb – and is now in mourning since he is a UConn fan:
Wow – what a game.
I just got done reading about that game! I went to bed with Mississippi State leading UConn and I hoped they would pull off the upset. I am sorry your husband is sad but a team winning 111 games in a row is bad for women’s basketball. Just like Baylor winning by 100 points in the early rounds of the tournament was bad for the game (and Mississippi State beat them too).
Here is why it is bad: the article I read on ESPN about the game spent the first 9 paragraphs talking about Geno Auriemma and his team’s streak. In paragraph 10, they talked about William’s shot.
It should be an exciting championship game – I always like watching Dawn Staley’s teams play and it will be interesting to see if Mississippi State can keep up the intensity; it would be easy to rest on your laurels after that.
Good morning, meese! Saturday …
It is 28 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 55. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast.
Today is April 1st, the day for bad pranks in a year that feels like one ginormous bad prank. I was watching my Twitter last night trying to catch scores on the USA Women’s Hockey vs Canada game (we won!) and noticed that the tRump White House had released their financial disclosures. It looks like the Mercer family owns the U.S. government, lock stock and barrel. How nice for them! And how ghastly for us. When I also read that in the Senate hearing on Thursday, one of the witnesses said that Marco Rubio had been targeted by the Russians in order to help Donald Trump win the nomination – and that Republicans still don’t freaking care about Russian interference – I was stunned. A foreign government picked the Republican nominee and saw to it that he won the presidential election and that is “just fine” to the Republican Party. I don’t know what will happen but I am not sure we survive as a country if the tRump administration is allowed to stay in power.
I was glad to see that Claire McCaskill came out against Gorsucks – good for her and very courageous. She will face a fierce battle to hold her seat in blood red Missouri.
I did not get done all the 1st quarter projects I needed to finish so this weekend will be March 32nd and March 33rd as I put off starting the new quarter until Monday. Who’s to know??
See all y’all later!
Good morning, Moosekind! After a day of welcome and much-needed rain yesterday, the skies are beginning to clear and the streets to dry out. Current temp. in NoVa is 47 F. with an expected high of 59 F.
Lots to do this morning in the way of housework and shopping for groceries before weight training at the gym at 12:30. I hope to visit my friends tomorrow at Greenspring, the retirement community. The friend who is ill has been moved to Garden Ridge, the rehab facility on the campus. She has a private room and it’s quiet there, better than the noisy hospital she was in, my other friend says.
Still working on Political Granddaughter’s birthday story. Gad, it’s going to be long. She’ll have to put off reading it until she gets home from work.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and Beyond!
Good morning, Meeses! I got to the Big Apple ???? without any major trouble yesterday, and spent the evening with two elementary school classmates of mine at a Japanese izakaya on West 49th St. It was a lot of fun!! Although now I just want to sleep forever, but I can’t really do that…
The concerts are today! And I also found out that some friends are in town to attend as well!
Back later!
{{{basket}}} – glad you’re having fun – great to meet old friends and I always enjoy anything I’m doing more if I’m doing it with friends. moar {{{HUGS}}}
Enjoy you time in the Big Mango (my new name for NYC) ;)
Even if #45 is impeached, the next in line is Pence, then Ryan. The damage being done will only get worse — because while evil, they are sane. Though I would argue that Ryan is psychotic, there are many (many) successful psychotic people — one thing about not actually having feelings, it helps you get shit done. Anyway, happy thoughts for Saturday morning. Got to straighten house some — neighbors are coming over to help put up curtains. I’m not tall enough to do it myself. Brain has finally moved on to a sweet song, Ordinary Love.
If tRump is removed – or quits under pressure – his fans will blame the Republicans and a President Pence or President Ryan or President Hatch won’t be able to get anything done.
The key is that there is no “Republican Party” capable of governing. They can all agree on the CRAs, the laws rolling back President Obama’s rules that went into effect after May 2016. But they can’t pass anything new in the House unless they get Democratic votes because they are split into three factions with no common governing philosophy. And nothing new can be passed in the Senate unless Mitch McConnell is willing to nuke the filibuster for legislation. I don’t think he has the votes. There is some question about whether he even has the votes to nuke the SCOTUS confirmation filibuster but I don’t doubt that if he does, he will do that. Having already destroyed the Senate with his Merrick Garland ploy, he is going to get his nominee confirmed any way he can.
Good morning, 47 and raining in Bellingham. Our grand kids will be here for spring break so next week will be fun. Our grandson arrives tomorrow and will stay all week, and the grand girls will be here for several days as well. So we need to fill the refrigerator, plan some activities, and give our minds a rest from tRump worries.
Best wishes to all!
Started the morning at 45 and heading for 70. I’ve got a fire going anyway to take the chill off. Sun’s shining quite nicely to get us started with the new month’s generation. We wrapped up March at 360 KWHs – better than 2015, not as good as 2016 (by 61 KWHs). Ended the quarter 175 KWHs behind 2016. We shall see what we shall see for April. Farmers Market opened on the Square this morning. Mostly went to say “hai, welcome back” but got beeswax candles (I’m lighting a lot of those for a lot of people these days) and romaine for myself and some asparagus for my friend/neighbor.
Told some folks at the Market about today being “Fire the Fool” day – they said that was worth trying to remember their twitter passwords for. Rs in disarray is good because we really aren’t strong enough to stop them. They’re doing enough damage as it is. Don’t want Pence or Ryan in the driver’s seat, no matter how much of the driving they’re actually doing now. pvl45 is bad but he’s distractable – the other two are both evil and focused making them more dangerous to us.
Got to go finish writing (mostly checking totals and links) for my Street Prophets diary but will go read the Fighting Back diary first. Bright the day and wind to thy wings, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
went to an event for Beto O’Rourke, congressman from El Paso who is going to run against Ted Cruz. Scholzs was packed
