It Takes A Village: VNV Wednesday – Random Acts

The Village News & Views May 31, 2017
Wednesday Get Over the Hump Free for All

Greetings, Village Meese. It’s Day 132 of the Resistance and time for another Get Over the Hump post and discussion thread.

Since DoReMI reminded us yesterday of the value of random acts of love and kindness, today’s theme is going to be no theme – Random Resistance.

I’m sure someone will argue that Resistance should not be random, it must be a steady, sustained effort in order to be effective. I don’t disagree.

However there is something to be said for injecting a little randomness into the mix in order to keep our minds and hearts fresh, and to confused the heck out of the forces of oppression.

Thus, today’s Get Over the Hump post is going to be a Random Collection of Things.

Here we go!

WTFJH yesterday…  Day 124: Deragatory information.

Wonkette… Your Boyfriend Emmanuel Macron Just Got Up In Putin’s Grill Like ‘YEAH BRO, WHAT YOU GONNA DO?’

Shakesville… We Resist: Day 131

  1. good morning M G, enjoyed the randomness of your post today. I find myself needing relief from politics because we have all managed to make such a mess of it that we have earned the civilized world’s disdain. I agree with them and have been focusing on my part in that mess so that I can do better instead.

    • {{{{{{{{{{wordsinthewind}}}}}}}}}}}

      Here’s the thing, though. “We” did not make a mess of it. We supported and fought for the president America should have had, the successor Barack Obama chose. This is not on you or me. It’s not on her. And I think the rest of the world knows that.

      We are a actually still a relatively young nation. Trust me, when those other countries look back at their own histories, there are periods they would just as soon forget.

      Try and tune out the negative voices, and I know they are loud and pervasive, that want you to accept the blame for this. Nope. I blame, in this order: People who didn’t vote, the MSM, and Trump voters.

      You and the rest of us will fight for better, because it’s what we choose to do, but don’t accept the blame for this. That’s a false narrative.

      • Yes. The only thing I rank differently is I’d put the press first, then Dems who didn’t vote, then Deplorables and their enablers. We will keep working to make things better because that’s what we do. And have always done. (Or to put it another way, as usual the guys made a real mess and we women are cleaning it up even though it isn’t our mess.)

    • {{{wordsinthewind}}} – taking a break from what the media reports as politics is a good idea. There is nothing about the “big picture” you can deal with. Any more than George Bailey could save a transport of U.S. military from Bedford Falls. But Harry Bailey could and did save those men because George had saved him. We are in Bedford Falls doing our best. Some of the best we did years ago is stepping up now to take on this fight. Some of the best we do now will carry on in the future. So yes, of course focus on what you can do. But never think it isn’t part of The Resistance. It most certainly is. moar {{{HUGS}}}

  2. {{{MomentaryGrace}}} – thanks for the double duty. If pvl45 weren’t so dangerous to us and our country, i’d feel sorry for him. I’d still want him isolated and kept away from any power to harm – definitely would not want to ever be in the same room (or even city) with him. He’s such an ass and he’s on the world stage where he can’t hide it or fake it any longer. But I can’t feel sorry for anyone who is trying to hide his incompetence by hurting people.

    Any act of kindness is The Resistance. Hate put the Evil ones into power. Only Love can overcome Hate. Love is quiet where Hate is noisy. Love builds where Hate destroys. Love wants to go about ordinary life, Hate wants Power. So sometimes Hate “wins’ – temporarily. But there are a lot more folks who Love and they/we are setting aside our ordinary lives to push Hate off the throne again. Time it takes – but it is an inevitable as water wearing away stone. moar {{{HUGS}}}

    • I don’t feel sorry for him in the least, but I am not immune to the pathos his situation exhibits. In the ‘old days’, mad kings were not that unusual. This time the ‘mad president’ was placed in his office by conspiracy, malice, racism, misogyny and denial. LOTS of denial.

      I am however fascinated by the reactions of people. There is a cultural conversation happening and the hate and denial truly are on the fringes, no matter how they manage to trick themselves into power.

      • pathos is as good a word as any for it. Definitely sad. But the damage he can do to us is a lot sadder. The only good thing I can see is that he’s keeping the Rs dysfunctional – They are even more evil than he is and with a competent leader they’d have already destroyed all the progress we’ve made in the last century.

        hate has always been on the fringes – where it waits until Love is involved enough in everyday life to not be paying any attention. then it springs out and grabs the reins of the only thing it wants – power. But it can’t control power so eventually – this time around I think sooner rather than later (i hope) power throws hate off and stomps on it. after which hate crawls back to the fringes, licks its wounds – and waits for next time.

        • I do love the word pictures you paint! :D

          bfitzinAR

          • Thank you. I used to make up stories for my siblings and later my kids when they were little when we were walking from here to there, wherever here to there might be – little kids are a lot more manageable when they are on an adventure and not just walking from here to there, LOL – and just kind of got into the habit of painting word pictures for them. Found it works to explain what’s going on to teenagers and adults pretty well, so I keep doing it. :)

  3. Good morning MomentaryGrace and thank you. It’s raining, unexpectedly pleasant surprise!!!

    I wonder if he had a come-to-Eris moment… Maybe “covfefe” is the new Fnord?

    Fnord.

    (also because Belle is currently kneading my blanket)

    • Oh hai bastket! :D

      I like rain, especially in summer. I’ve learned to fear floods, but rain, not too much for not too long… much easier on my eyes. I used to say I was from a darker planet. ;)

      Something for you…

      Fnord!

  4. Good morning, Meeses, and thank you, MG for random randomness!

    Waking up to covfefe this morning chilled me to the bone. I’ve resisted the dementia bandwagon in the past, in part because I’ve seen it up close and personal with my mom, and absolutely hate when people jump to that conclusion with ease and apparent disregard for how horrible it is. However, between the tweet, the evidence of verbal decline from even ten years ago, and the video of him wandering away from Bibi and having to be steered back, I now think there’s ample room for real concern.

    And for me, that concern has less to do with compassion for him or his family; it has to do with the very real possibility that he’ll lash out in anger as he declines further. That’s tough enough to deal with when caregiving for a family member…it’s even scarier when the person has tools and weapons at his fingertips which can hurt a whole swathe of people in our country and the world. If I thought there was anyone in the West Wing who wasn’t self-serving and an ideologue, one could find reassurance. But I fear that people will use and manipulate him for their own ugly, hateful ends before they will consider the good of the man or the good of the country. I really, really hope I’m wrong.

    • {{{{{{{{{DoReMI}}}}}}}}}

      To give you a little context, and forgive me if you were already aware of this, shortly after he tweeted that, he followed it with another tweet and indicated he realized the error.

      Now you could argue that someone else did the second tweet but I think it’s more likely that he made a late-night error and because he’s the Prez, it was spotlighted instantly.

      I don’t mean he’s not impaired, like most folks, I don’t know and have only vague suspicions. But to your very understandable concern that he might not have anyone around him capable of stepping in if the worst were to happen, I don’t think that is a certainty. Yes, he’s surrounded by sycophants who are using him for all they are worth, but there are still patriots in the West Wing. I do believe that.

      • Thank you for the update; I wasn’t aware of the second tweet. (It actually allows me to enjoy the Twitter mocking more fully, with the full knowledge that I’ve been all thumbs on Twitter myself!) I also want to apologize for being such a wet blanket and being the resident Debbie Downer about your post. That really wasn’t my intent; my mom’s been gone for more than 30 years, but apparently, I have some unresolved issues related to dementia. Who knew? (Well, everyone here knows now…!)

        • {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{DoReMI}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

          You are in no way a Debbie Downer, my dear Do! ^_^ You are a sweet, thoughtful, sensitive, delightful, wonderful internet sister whom I cherish. <3

          Don’t worry about having issues. I have boatloads of issues. Ever heard of the movie Barfly? No? Not surprised, it wasn’t exactly a blockbuster, but when I saw it I bawled like a child. Mother issues.

          I get cranky and something downright ugly when I feel like I’m confronting irrational behavior in others (despite my inarguable own). Mother issues.

          The rough spots are part of our landscape. I side with Captain Kirk.

          Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

          Damn it, Bones, you’re a doctor. You know that pain and guilt can’t be taken away with a wave of a magic wand. They’re the things we carry with us, the things that make us who we are. If we lose them, we lose ourselves. I don’t want my pain taken away! I need my pain!

          Me too, Jim. :)

        • {{{DoReMI}}} – it’s not that you have unresolved issues related to dementia – you may of course and probably do considering she was you mother – but your comment does not reflect unresolved issues so much as it reflects experience. And the voice of experience is what we need to help deal with this mess and find the path out again. moar {{{HUGS}}} and Healing Energy.

      • However, there is 14 hours between those two tweets. I think he was clueless about the first one (perhaps “butt tweeted”). His staff woke up and saw it on trending and did the second tweet.

        That’s my take on it. ????

        • That would explain the unexpected display of a sense of humor and self-disparagement.

  5. Good morning, meese and thanks for doing double duty today. It’s a wonderful diversion (however temporary) and definitely needed. I’m hoping the Orange Menace doesn’t take us out of the Climate Accord, but if he does, we’ll just keep on keeping on. Also, I guess Syria and Nicaragua are the other two countries not in the accord. So, at least there’s a whole bunch of countries trying to save our planet. Corporations, too, aren’t revoking their pledges to offset their carbon footprints. Then there are the leaders of the US states (yep, the blue ones) who will continue fighting the good fight.

    As basket said, we got some rain this morning. Nice start to my day. Now, a fresh cuppa and then back to laughing at the kitties.

      • Now if we could just figure out a way for the kitties to rule the world…free catnip (or the equivalent) for all!

      • There is a place like that in Atlanta, a cafe teamed up with Paws Atlanta to staff it with cats. S friend went and raved about it. It’s pretty far from me

        • If there was one near me, I would definitely go. :)

          Hi kathy from pa!

  6. Hi meese…What’s up other than covfefe….LOL

    Thank you Gracie…I needed the laughs…

    • Hi Batch! Glad to amuse! :D
