Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

Happy Friday! Eating oatmeal, drinking tea. Waiting for the apocalypse. I keep hoping we’ll get a re-set right before we go off the cliff. I know we’re all trying to keep us from going off that cliff, but it feels like one of those cartoon skids…. Yeah, I’m cheerful this morning. Here’s Ultraviolet, which has those fantastic women on the screen behind the guys. (I noticed it has “women of Iceland — who seriously take no shit, that is a fantastic story)
Good morning, Meese! Fair and fairly clear here in NoVa this morning, although severe thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected by mid-afternoon. Current temp. is 73 F., on its way to 90 F.
After I drive Miss Pink Cheeks to Art Camp this morning, I have a couple of errands to do before heading out to Greenspring to visit my friend. She always feels our time together is too short so this time I’m saying the night. I’ll come back tomorrow morning and stop by the gym on the way home.
Today is Bastille Day, the day I traditionally take the Jar Money to put in the kids’ bank accounts, and tomorrow is St. Swithin’s Day. I’ve been teaching Miss PC the following nursery rhyme:
Luckily, it’s supposed to be sunny in our area on Saturday. Wishing a good day to all.
70+ something at dawn – still managing the ‘open up when i get up, closed up while at work, turn on A/C when get home” drill. Didn’t get quite 20 KWHs yesterday and we’ve got rain moving in (well, clouds for us – whether or not we’ll actually get water is a different story), so the less I use the A/C the better. Whatever that contact dermatitis on my face is, it’s spreading. sigh.
I hang onto the war timelines because they remind me to not give up even though it’s taking time and they are winning battles. I hope we can block the kill Americans bill. Since we need at least 3 Rs to do it I can’t say i have faith we will – because i have no faith in the Rs – but I hope we will. meanwhile on the community needs list I’ve got one mortgage, two cars to purchase or repair, and another dr visit on the urgent list – and 7 more folks whose needs are important but not urgent yet. (note the word ‘yet’) So yeah, I’m probably as depressed as everybody else. sigh. But I will overcome that in me . I must. I cannot help, I cannot channel help, if the channel that i am is filled with gunk.
Checking out the Villages then getting to work. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 63 and sunny in Bellingham. I think I’ll take my book outdoors today. My leg is responding to elevation and rest so I’ve got to keep doing just that. A new legs up spot may help me cope but I’ll have to be strong to resist doing anything else!
Best wishes to all.
Good Saturday Meese
66 going up to 82 here in Saugerties NY -and no rain today – YAY!
You must see this:
I have not forgotten any of the people who attacked John for endorsing Hillary.
Not forgotten and will never be forgiven.
Thanks for posting that. I avoid David Axelrod links on Twitter because he was abusive towards our candidate last year and is abusive towards women in politics in general. I am grateful for his skill in plotting the path to the presidency for Barack Obama but I will never forgive him for the damage his pettiness in dismantling Howard Dean’s 50-state strategy did to the Democratic Party and, specifically, to Wisconsin.
I avoid him too – but saw this mentioned on Dkos – and went to take a look – glad I did
Jeebus, Denise – how much of a trigger do they want to hit this man with? They gonna run him through getting half killed on the March next? WE should never forget. HE cannot forget. And teh scars still hurt. Goddess bless him and Healing Energy to ease his pain. And walk beside him into the next battle. I am a physical coward but I hope should I ever have the chance to walk with him toward the next battle that I will live up to the Call and be there.
Good morning, meese! Saturday …
It is 57 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 82. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The heat index will be in the low 90s so the air will have to go back on later this morning. I am grateful for the early morning coolness, however.
I was scanning my Twitter feed this morning and what showed up but an op-ed from the New York Times by Friend of the Moose Peter Jukes! I spent a paywall click to read it.
Britain’s Gift to America: The New Sleazocracy.
I will have to ask him if we can return this “gift” – hunting for the receipts right now.
This week’s Democratic Party Address discusses election integrity and features Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi. This past week House Democrats also held a presser discussing the awful Education Department “commission” on campus sexual assault where Betsy DeVos invited “prominent” MRA figures who testified that there are no rapes on college campuses, just “women who changed their mind after they had sex”. Her commission is planning to “update” Title IX. Every time you think the depths of awfulness have been reached by the Trump Administration, another level is discovered.
I will leave you with this uplifting video of the Afghan girls robotics team making it to the United States to complete with their peers:
See all y’all later!
wow – let me go tweet Peter
Slept in, watching Le Tour. Yesterday was a short but exciting stage, several high mountains close together. Today is a long one with undulating hill/mountains & they’ve put in several sprints throughout. Today: gym & groceries. I may buy frozen dinners & not cook at all since I have plenty of breakfast & lunch made.

68 at just after dawn but already 85 – only supposed to get to 87 but I take leave to doubt that – heat index is already 90. We shall see how long before I have to turn the A/C back on. I actually had to crank it down last night to get it to come on – air temp was lower than my usual setting but the heat index certainly wasn’t. At least it’s sunny so far today. Only got 11.6 KWHs yesterday but I’m already generating in the kws rather than just watts. m-t-d is 257 HWHs.
I am glad Mueller is keeping it close to the vest. Back to a WWII analogy, the French folks living in Vichy needed the hope of knowing the Allies were out there fighting to free them, but if they’d known the details so would the Nazis. Other groups can do hit-and-run strikes, Mueller’s our Operation Overlord. Meanwhile I’m doing my community needs stuff – trying to get folks safely housed, fed, transportation, and/or to doctors as needed with the help of the community/ies at DK. (DoReMI came up with a lovely plan to help Aji for folks who have credit card rewards points – use the points to get Lowes or Home Depot gift cards and send them to her. That’s no cost to the donor but definitely adds up to help for Aji.)
Need to check in at DK and work on my Sharing Saturday diary but will read the Fighting Back post as soon as I get a minute. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 63 and sunny in Bellingham. I’ve got another quiet day planned with a few errands and some light gardening and sewing. I’ve tried to read the news this morning, but I can’t seem to finish an article so apparently my mind needs a rest too.
Best Saturday wishes to all.
