Wednesday Get Over the Hump Free for All
Greetings, Village Meese. It’s Day 258 of the Resistance and time for another Get Over the Hump post and discussion thread.
I love October. I love Halloween. I embrace many aspects of the season and the holiday, but one of the things I enjoy and look forward to the most is the TV programming. When it comes to horror, I far prefer old school. Universal, and Hammer.
The classic Monsters as most people know are Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolf Man. There are a few others who are sometimes included in the tally, such as the Invisible Man, the Phantom of the Opera, the Mummy. But everyone agrees on the Big Three.
Each of these characters has come to represent some aspect of human nature, and some of those associations have shifted over time. Vampires glitter, werewolves are heroes, man-made men are now almost within the reach of science.
But if we keep to the originals, the Wolf Man was always the figure most filled with pathos. Cursed. A man who doesn’t choose to be evil.
Unfortunately, we live in a world where evil does not manifest within known confines any longer. I suspect it never really did, but the illusion of safety and civility have now been shattered.
It takes a silver bullet to save us from the beast. But what will save us from the gun?
And now for your regularly scheduled randomness.

After a mass shooting is EXACTLY the right time to talk about gun safety. If not now, when? To my Republican colleagues, I beg you—stand up to the NRA!

We have to do something about the pandemic of gun violence in this country. Thoughts and prayers don’t cut it.

The crowd fled at the sound of gunshots.
Imagine the deaths if the shooter had a silencer, which the NRA wants to make easier to get.

That’s it for me, enjoy some beverage, chat with your friends and fellow Resistors and just take a moment to enjoy some part of your day.
Thank you for your patience. Love and peace, Village! Enjoy your Wednesday gathering.

Good morning, Meese and thanks for pulling a double (again). This week has been a plethora of extremely terrible, outrageously stupid and notoriously common events. The congress passing the 20 week fetal pain bill just took me back to when I had my abortion in Washington state. There was only a handful of states where you could get one in 1971. Even though we were catholic, my parents put “what would everybody say” above religion and off I went. On a bus. To meet cousins I didn’t know. To have a procedure I didn’t want. Then return home. I hated my parents but as I got older, I recognized the gift they gave me. The chance to pursue my dreams.
So, I’m seeing an ENT specialist tomorrow to get the damn wax out so I can finish my hearing test and get my new aids. The one I got to test drive was awesome (I didn’t want to give it back). Until then? I enjoy my coffee. Lots of coffee.
It’s all abstracts to the Repubs, not real consequences for real humans.
Thinking good thoughts for your ears! {{{{{{{WYgalinCali}}}}}}}
It’s as expensive as buying a car (just kidding) but exciting with the technology out there now. The wifi that automatically changes the settings based on your location and an app to adjust your settings, if needed, anywhere. Cool.
{{{MomentaryGrace}}} – bless you for the double duty. Yes, Evil is running amok these days – mostly because those even more evil ones who benefit from evil running amok are currently in power. We can and will stop them but it is much harder when those who should be curtailing the evil are the ones who set it loose. It is also harder when those who should be helping us not only won’t but actively block us because we aren’t pure enough to take down evil and if things get bad enough “revolution” will put them in power and they’ll magically fix everything (to their own satisfaction, not ours). But we will do it anyway.
Got a bunch of stuff to do, both work and at DK. Will check back here as well as the DK Village as I can. {{{HUGS}}}
Hey, bfitz! Less than three months to go! You’re definitely considered a “short timer” now.
{{{WYgalinCali}}} – true. I’ll be offline most of tomorrow renewing my driver’s license and then going to the SSA to fill out forms and make sure everything is in train for that. As in I’ll post the Thursday Village at DK then be gone until I get back is the best I can say. At least in time for the Evening Edition since SSA will be closed by then, LOL, but I’ve set my afternoon Street Prophets photo diary to post automatically – and may not be around to post the community links anywhere.
Ironically, I may have less online time after I’m retired – depending on what sort of volunteer activities I find to do. We shall see what we shall see. I probably will give myself a month to get used to retirement before I start looking. Or at least doing. Cold weather is not when I want to be out and about. :) and moar {{{HUGS}}} – also some Healing Energy.
Afternoon, Meese, and thank you, MG for your thought-provoking collection of tweets. I have to say that if we can’t have Hillary as president, I will gladly take Hillary Unplugged. It suits her to be free of the campaign constraints and speaking truth to power. And a big FU to all the haters who are still trying to silence her.
And now I have to get back to “work.” I actually brought my sewing machine with me today, because I’m looking at the calendar and the piles of work I have yet to complete, and it’s not calm-inducing. I’m still trying to figure out how I managed to get married six months to the day after I met my husband, in a different state from where I was living, and sailed right through it. With The Kiddo’s wedding, I’m approaching meltdown stage, and I’m not even doing most of the work.

Hi meese…Hi to you too Gracie…Sorry for my lateness….Wonderful diary as always….Miss you sis…How have you been with recovering from the water dumper…My own scare was just that a scare…Could have been very bad but decided to spare Tampa…
Even with the hurricanes which for the most part fade away with time what Bum and the Repukes are doing is going to take generations to clean up.
I’m sick at heart with what has happened in Puerto Rico and Vegas. One made by nature and worsened by the stupidity of Trump and the other man made which can be laid at the feet of the Repukes….
{{{Batch}}} – Rs are evil. period.

Sorry for replying late! Good to see you over here. We’re okay, Houston is picking itself up as we always do.
What has happened to Puerto Rico is unforgivable. If only this had happened when BHO was still in office, they would have had all the help they needed.
And Vegas would have at the least have had sincere compassion from our President.
Or if only… well, you know. She would have been on top of both.
