Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Oct. 15th through Oct. 21st

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Good morning, Moosekind! It’s 46 F. on this clear October day in NoVa, going up to 76 F. later.

    Fifty years ago today, on a glorious October Saturday just like this one, I married the nicest man in North America. Little did I realize at the time that it would be the best day’s work I ever did in my life!

    The bearded Unitarian minister who was to marry us was late arriving because he was demonstrating against the Vietnam war at the Pentagon. The idea was that the protesters would surround the Pentagon and levitate it right off the ground with the force of their collective will. Uh, The Force wasn’t with them—it doesn’t work Saturdays, evidently.

    If I knew how to attach a photo to a comment, I’d show you one of us on our wedding day. Egad, we were so THIN back then! What happened? :)

    Wishing all a good day!

  2. “Support may just mean standing obediently for the anthem.” Indeed.

  3. Slept in, watching the news. Today: laundry, groceries & I hope, the gym. Just over a week till the Walk, must get my head together & send out e-mails.

  4. Clouded up overnight so temps never did really drop – morning “low” was in the mid 60s and it still is. Sun breaks through momentarily but unless it clears off, I’m looking at another low production day. Yesterday was just under 8 KWHs and with this morning’s driblet the m-t-d is 180. It’s not possible to reach 300 for the month and not likely to reach the 264 I got last year – thet full sunny day with the system down really hurt the generation totals. If we’d gotten the over 10 KWHs we would have if the system had been up last Thursday it still wouldn’t guarantee meeting last year’s total and maybe making 300 – but it would have been possible.

    The Court with the abortion ruling is stupid from their own point of view. If she has that baby while she’s on American soil the kid is an American citizen. But we always knew they were both evil and stupid. Just like the budget Congress has just passed is both evil and stupid. We have got to find a way to first circumvent and then break up the RW media-owning consortium. The media following orders on how to frame events and people – including especially Hillary and mad king donald – is why we are in this situation. None of the other factors could have put him in the position of authority without the 24/7 support and framing of the media. I’m not saying they weren’t issues but they wouldn’t have been significant enough to change the election results without the media push.

    I had a lovely birthday yesterday – insanity at work notwithstanding – including that lovely visit with RonK and his friend. Probably more happy birthday wishes on one day than I’ve ever had before plus phone calls from my younger son in Austin and my brother in Tallahassee. And Aji has a working shower! So a lovely day all around. Now I need to get over to DK and work on my Sharing Saturday diary and stuff like that. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}}

  5. Good morning, 47 and raining in Bellingham. I guess it’s good I’m sleeping more, but my days are certainly starting later! I’m just looking for coffee and the rest of you are busy with your day.

    The Dr Who fabric I ordered for Sophie’s quilt arrived yesterday so today I’ll prewash it and hope I can find the creative spark I was feeling when I decided to do this project. The scale of the some of the prints is different than they looked on the screen so I’ll have to make some adjustments. I’m glad I can buy the banding fabrics at my local quilt shop, as it’s easier for me to balance color, pattern, and scale when I have the actual fabrics in hand.

    Best Saturday wishes to all.
