Maybe because of its smaller size in area and population (106,450 per the 2010 census) or maybe because its population is 76% Black, the USVI has received even less media coverage than Puerto Rico after Irma and Maria.  Today’s post is an attempt to rectify some of that and bring a spotlight to the ongoing struggles of our fellow citizens.

First and foremost…

    • It was actually a bit disheartening to discover how difficult it was to find tweets and links related to USVI. To the best of my knowledge, Joy Reid is the one of the only mainland newspeople to spend any time there.

  2. Thanks for the doubly delicious posts today. As I said in ????. We should relocate everybody to the mainland until the islands are livable again. It’s not like we’re allowing immigration and/or refugees from overseas. We might as well take care of our own.

    Two days until I get my new hearing aids. I’m so stoked. This is the 2nd best one they offer. 36 channels of awesomeness. 48 channels is their top of the line. Considering my old ones had 3 channels, I’m getting a huge upgrade. Off to grab another cup.

    • Excellent news about the hearing aids, although I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t know they had channels. Can you explain more? Does that mean you have a way to adjust for frequencies?

      • Picture each aid as being an equalizer for your stereo…different channels, more bass here less here, etc. Old equalizers have a treble and a bass and volume. Three channels, right? Now, you look at the new equalizers. They have multiple channels for improving sound quality based on what you’re listening to. No more guessing.

        Now, based on your hearing test, they know what situations you’re going to need help in, for example, noisy rooms. Then add in wifi capability so they automatically adjust when you enter that noisy room. And voila. Much better hearing. Now we also have an app for your smart phone so you can, if needed, change the volume and the directionality of the microphones in each side. That’s not even getting into the accessories you can buy (one I’m looking at will turn your hearing aid into a Bluetooth receiver for your phone, tv, stereo).

        I hope that makes sense.

  3. {{{DoReMI}}} – thanks for the double posts. I’m not going to be around much today – mostly get my links posted in the usual places and that’s that. I’ve got a bunch of crap on my desk in various stages of being done and more people sending me stuff they should by now know better – it’s a darned good thing I’m retiring at the end of the year. I’ve been explaining how the system works to these people – all of them for years, some of them for 12 years now and I am alternating between being just too tired to do anything but stare into space and being angry enough to ask them how the eff they ever got a PhD if they can’t understand a simple HR or Procurement rule. For eff’s sake they get paid 3 or 4 (depending on the professor) times what I do!

    Anyway, I’ll try to get the USVI link into my “box” for the next post. Thanks for that. Have fun at your daughter’s – before, during, and after the wedding. :) moar {{{HUGS}}}
