Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Mar. 11th through Mar. 17th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Good day, 44 and sunny in Bellingham. I woke up late, but made it to the pool on time. The sunshine makes me want to be outdoors so I hope I’ll have some more ivy clipping time later today. It’s very therapeutic and a quick glance at the news tells me I’ll need an antidote if I keep reading.

Hope it’s a good day for all.

    • I RT’d it – hope you make your goal. {{{anotherdemocrat}}} & Healing Energy.

  2. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

It is 25 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 48. Sunny skies are in the forecast. Tomorrow we will hit 50 briefly then back into the upper 30s, low 40s for the next week. Spring may be arriving but spring-like weather is still a ways out.

The “engineer” hired to be in charge of the FIU pedestrian bridge project left a voicemail that there were some cracks, nothing to worry about, maybe someone should look at it. Sigh. The people calling for “loosening regulations” need to look long and hard at what the results of “do whatever the fk you want” is doing to us. Low bid? Rick Scott buddies? I am sure that we will find out more as the investigation continues and the lawsuits start. I hope someone thinks to grab the passports of the owners of the design and construction firms so they can’t flee the country.

I am no fan of McCabe – I believe that the latest timeline showed that he was the guy who chose to release the October 28 Comey letter – but I am not sure he deserves to lose his pension over his missteps in that incident. The pension is for a body of work. The FBI rank-and-file should be “pleased” by which I mean “pissed as hell.” I don’t think it is a great idea having the chief federal law enforcement agency with low morale and worried about their pensions. I suspect this will lead to a rush to the door for senior agents. Good news? Bad news? I guess we will find out.

In As The Oval Churns, Trump is going to sue his former mistress $20 million for breaking her non-disclosure agreement and disclosing the affair. Er, isn’t suing an admission that, first, she was paid to keep quiet, and second, that the affair occurred? I guess if I were advising a client in this situation, I would recommend letting the story get chewed up by the 10 minute news cycle and try to make it seem like a nothingburger when asked about it. But, hey, I am not an attorney and if I were I would not work for sleazebuckets. In the off chance that there is still a person in America who doesn’t realize that Trump is a disgusting person without the slightest shred of decency, I hope this stays in the news cycle. The question is: which Trump story is being “released” to distract from which other Trump story. I think the answer is “there is no plan.” Trump feeds off publicity – good or bad – his fear is that it will be indifferent.

Busy day here as the student walkout rally – lead up, day of, reflections on – distracted me from some important projects that are due. I hope Diana’s move is going well. :::waves:::

    See all y’all later!

  3. I tossed up a diary last night, got a couple of donations and comments. Used a bunch of Irish artists. Skipping the training ride, but I will get some exercise today. Thawing next week’s oatmeal & lunch. Watching Joy Reid’s show. Not that there’s a ton of crazy news.

  4. 40 with windchill of 34 and heading for mid to upper 60s – hazy at the moment but the sun is trying to burn through. We’ve got rain projected to move in overnight (of course, tomorrow’s laundry day) with temps dropping back down next week. Not freezing down, but definitely treadmill instead of neighborhood walks & fires in the evenings down. At least I have plenty of firewood at the moment.

On the political front, sad to lose a long-time progressive. Sadder to lose a woman who has done so much to help other women – from the healthcare front to mentoring newly elected women. sigh. 88’s not a bad run – but Rep. Louise Slaughter was still in office, still doing good work in the world. Her Light Will Ever Shine. (The rest of the political stuff is more sound and fury and probably not signifying much of anything except apparently successful attempt to distract from the underlying evils being perpetrated on our country and our people.)

Over at DK the Friday evening Pootie diary was a trip down memory lane – a sequence of Andy threads from 2010. Funny as Andy threads always are, but also a bit tearful. Horsefeathers is the only person in the sequence who is still at DK. Tricia of course is over The Bridge, but the rest aren’t on the site – and I miss them. But then, I’m not officially on the site any longer either.

    Need to get some offline stuff done as soon as I manage to visit the Village & twitter. Bright the day, Meeses. (Hope Diana’s move & Denise’s travel are going well.) {{{HUGS}}}

  5. Good morning, 40 and sunny in Bellingham. All’s well in my small world today…..Ron and Ava are off on another nature photo excursion, our son will be here soon to start building a deer fence around the vegi garden, and I have more ivy to clip. So regardless of the worrisome mess in our tRump country I have the possibility a a nice day. I have to have faith our country will survive.

    Best wishes to all.

  6. funny (punny) thread about license plates
