Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

Good morning, 56 and sunny in Bellingham. I’m going to the pool soon and then I have flowers to plant, so I’m feeling very grateful to be in my little corner of the world today.
Our grandson, with his mom’s help, is leading a successful voter registration drive at his high school. He is also encouraging those who register to fill out reminder post cards to be mailed closer to voting deadlines so he’s made a real commitment.

Best wishes to all for a sunny Friday.
That is tremendous, princesspat! Hurray for your grandson and his mother!

Wonderful another dem! So glad you were there. Many thanks for sharing the fun.

Saturday morning Meese
61 degrees going up to 90 here in Saugerties NY. Weird weather – more like August.
I’m just chilling at home – hubby has a music gig in the Pocanos – will BBQ tomorrow
Worried about the early start to the Caribbean storm season
Good morning, Moosekind! At 6:30 a.m. the sky is a dim blue with subdued sunlight falling on the trees. Showers are forecast for the afternoon, so whatever we’re going to do has to be done this morning. The current temp. in Ashburn is 72 F., going up to 86 F.
We awoke at oh-dark-thirty, so we sat on the screened porch overlooking the woods, drinking our early morning tea and listening to the turkeys going “gobble-gobble.” It’s the first time I’ve heard them.
Feel exhausted from the news, although as far as I know the Irish voted “yes” to make abortion legal. Finally! Did any of you ever watch a movie called “The Magdalen Sisters”? Absolutely devastating.
Last night I went to a play put on by the Ashby Ponds Drama Club, “Double-Take at Beatrice’s Boarding House.” It was quite cute and (mercifully) lasted only an hour. The jokes were so corny I expected butter to start oozing from the ceiling.
Younger Son is taking his family to Williamsburg for the weekend; Elder Son is having a yard sale today and going to his neighborhood barbecue tomorrow. I’m going to make this a writing weekend as well as a “getting ready to travel” time. Still can’t log in to the Moose Pond on my iPad. I can get to various points all right, but it keeps telling me my password is wrong. Oh, well.
Wishing all a pleasant Saturday with no startling or horrible news.
This seems like progress towards enjoying the pleasant parts of your recent move:
I have not had time to test my iPad to see how it likes the Moose but I promise to try this weekend. We need to be able to talk to you when you are traveling!
I did not see the “Magdalen Sisters” (I rarely watch movies) but I read the stories about the Indian dentist who died at the hands of Irish “health care” – people who chose to preserve the “sanctity” of fetal tissue rather than the life of a living breathing human. Her story propelled the drive for repeal and I hope for her sake and for all women in Ireland that the exit polls are accurate. I was angry to see that the American godpeople who are working to repeal Roe v Wade – and kill American women – were actively working in Ireland to allow that country to keep killing Irish women! Curse them and their faux “pro-life” hypocrisy, supporting a political party that separates children from parents and then loses the children. Grrrr!
Well said, Jan!
Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 66 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 88. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
First, hurray for Ireland! If the exit polls are accurate, the repeal of Amendment 8 was successful and sanity will be returned to Ireland as it relates to the rights of women to control their bodies. I was following some of the hashtags and the images and stories were both sad and energizing.
Second, shut up Chris Hayes. For 4 months after the Democratic National Convention, you spent every minute of your show pumping up the butthurt berners, encouraging them to stay home in their puling purity pits. NOW you are shocked that a terrible person turns out to run a terrible administration and that a guy who hates brown people would treat their children badly! Shut up and go away. I have no illusions that the anger I saw on Twitter yesterday will result in any changes and I hope that people realize that the only way to halt some of the terrible things the Trump administration is doing is to take back the Senate. The House can do oversight but the Senate can confirm – or not confirm – the people who are in charge of DHS and Justice and HHS and the federal judges who will approve or reject the inhumane practices they are carrying out.
See all y’all later!
Good morning meese. I hope everyone has a good Saturday and a safe weekend.
My twitter feed is full of really happy Irish people (I follow a lot of Irish tourist, news, political accounts) , and my boys have been urging people to vote yes. First they voted for marriage equality, now this. Considering asking the Taoiseach to allow American women to apply for political asylum — especially if Trump leaves office & Pence becomes POTUS.
No real plans for the weekend. Next week is just a 4 day week so I may just do almond butter sandwiches for breakfast, with some fruit. Then after my June paycheck hits, I’ll buy groceries & make a batch of oatmeal next weekend. My other favorite Irish/Scottish band, Snow Patrol, have an album out yesterday. So happy they are back — the lead singer disappeared into a bottle a few years back, but he climbed out & is healthy & sober — the songs are happy & positive. Like Empress, which I swear is about the Resistance.
You’re angry but you don’t know how to be that yet
It seems too much went wrong and all at once
Resistance seems impossible from down this low
And surely no one else can feel like this
[Pre-Chorus]
But on the streets
You can see them gathering
And in your heart
You know they feel like you do
Good morning, 54 and partly sunny in Bellingham. I enjoyed every moment of my gardening time yesterday, but my knees are still complaining so I’ll have to take it easy today. I have a few small pots left to plant but the big ones by the back entrance are done so now I can relax…..the season has changed!
I’ve got someone coming to wash the exterior windows today, and that means taking off the heavy wood storm windows, washing all sides, and rehanging them. It’s a hard job and he doesn’t have much experience so I’ll supervise from my chair. It won’t be safe for him to do the upstairs windows so I’ll hire a window washing firm to do those. Hard to believe we used to do this ourselves.
Best Saturday wishes to all.
71 with 98% humidity heading for 90 and sunny at the moment. Got 14.9 KWHs yesterday and the m-t-d is 403 – 500 is still possible IF we average a tad over 16 a day for the rest of the month. Farmers Market was very pleasant this morning. Got strawberries I need to eat quickly as they have passed their prime and chard which will hold longer but I won’t be around to eat it so I’ll need to finish that quickly too. LOL.
Last I saw at DK they had located Maureen’s cats and were in the process of getting what’s needed to get them released to Meowsker, organize transport across the state, and raise whatever funds needed to cover the SPCA fees as well as transport costs. That’s the good news. The national news is sickening. Nothing new – in fact pretty much same ol’ same ol’ as far as the dominant white culture is concerned with its habit of ripping babies and children from the arms of POC to warehouse in “christian” schools, white foster homes, and the like – or sell into literal or virtual slavery. ICE is asking for “tips” to track down child traffickers – guess they need a new market. They certainly aren’t asking for help to stop the traffickers. Just sickening. No, we’re not “better than that” – but we were starting to get better, sort of. Now it’s full blast into the past.
I need to RT Denise’s Puerto Rico tweets and see what Aji’s got up. Maybe some outdoor work before it heats up. The house is relatively cool (I ran fans to bring in the morning coolth) and I’ll close it up shortly so it will keep that coolth – but I sure hope the humidity drops. Holding the Good Thought for basket – he’ll be playing in a few hours – and for everybody. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
