Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

It’s a clear and windy 69 degrees out here in Costa Mesa. I managed to do another 2 1/2 hours of canvassing in my precinct yesterday. As of last nite I have now covered 33% of my precinct.
That is WONDERFUL, Mvgal!
Tuesday Meese.
39 degrees here in Saugerties NY, going up to 53.
As an anthropologist – I approve this message

Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 43 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 54. The forecast calls for a rainy day.
I won’t have time to check the news until later this morning as I have a few projects that need eyes forward. I will be watching the reaction of Pittsburgh to the white nationalist president* showing up in their city. I know they won’t – because it does not seem to be in their nature – but I wish the reaction from the Tree of Life synagogue members would be to shun Trump and deny him the kumbaya photo op that he craves. Yesterday, driving home from a short trip, I was listening to some interviews on NPR. One of the people interviewed claimed he spoke for “all Jewish people” (which I knew to be a lie – there is no such person!) and said the problem is “both sides” because “Farrakhan”! JHC on a popsicle stick – the Democratic Party does not embrace Farrakhan or his angry spewing! The Republican Party does embrace white nationalism and considers nazis to be “very fine people” – the false equivalence is mind boggling.
Anyway, the best response Democrats can have to everything tRump is to get out the vote and get out and vote. The midterms will be our statement.
See all y’all later!
A lot more people would vote if they were allowed to—black people, Native Americans on reservations, and people who have paid their debt to society.
America is not “the land of the free” and never has been.
This nation was founded on the premise that WASP Male privilege = freedom.
Yeah – someone was messing with Armando over that Farrakhan Mallory crap
Perfect weather again. Cool-ish morning, still warm enough for sandals, and 80s this afternoon. The “troops to the border” thing is such transparent bullshit. The so-called caravan is walking. From the southern border of Mexico. They won’t be here for months. The troops are here to intimidate people in south Texas, who have been voting in much-too-high numbers. And now I’m seeing that Trump thinks he can end birthright citizenship with an executive order. We’re not in a prequel to a dystopia any more. He’s put us smack dab in the middle of one. A double dose of music this morning: Armor, because damn that’s a great song; and Head Full of Dreams, because we need to hear that speech from The Great Dictator.
Just about fainted when I saw this on my phone! Can he really do that? Isn’t it illegal?
The Right has been gearing up to challenge the 14th Amendment for a minimum of a decade and probably more. Maybe Herr tRump thinks he has the right people on SCOTUS now to surmount the legal challenges that will come. Actually, this is is giving 45* too much credit; this idea has to come from one of his neo-Nazi staffers like Stephen Miller. I can’t imagine tRump even knows there is a 14th Amendment.
He has the right guys on the court now – Republicans who hate non-whites and non-Christians and who want to “take their country back.” But the legal challenge will likely last long enough for us to take back the Senate and the presidency and dilute SCOTUS’ power by adding a few justices. The hue and cry would be deafening and even doodiehead Chuck Schumer would understand that there is no real purpose to having a Senate if he refused to take up that cause.
Ye gods, Moose Pond—must you be so skittish? Every time I comment on someone’s post the Moose angrily tells me I’ve made a “bad message request, header exceeds bla bla bla.” I have to back all the way out, then reenter the site.
Anyway, good morning, Pond dwellers! It’s beautiful here in Ashburn, with a current temp. of 38 F., going up to 61 F. It’s a fair day with no hint of rain as far as I know.
Haven’t exercised in days, but that’s because I have so much desk work and yesterday was a dead loss. The lack of sleep had me operating on one cylinder rather than all six. Today will be better. I have to finish writing an article and send it off, and take care of some bill-paying.
Today I must pick up Miss Pink Cheeks at her old school bus stop and take her to her new house. She can’t start her new school until next week. This will leave me no time to prepare dinner, so tonight we’ll eat at the Pub, which is just down the hallway. They’re supposed to have expanded their menu, thank Goddess.
Got to get back into the writer mindset because NaNoWriMo starts Thursday. That will be a busy day for me as Darling Niece have plans to catch up.
Today is the day I’ll mail my VoteForward letters. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
I am not sure what is happening with your browser but generally “bad message request, header exceeds bla bla bla” means that some data left over in the cache is confusing the request to the Moose to display data. Since I don’t know anything about clearing Safari cache except what I had already posted a few weeks ago, I can’t be of any help! I know that there is a way to clear the settings for one website so that it doesn’t wipe out all your saved entries but I believe that you reported back that it did not work for you.
Nothing changed on the Moose website program that I can see although BFitz reported that she got a message about the site not being secure last week. If your Apple software decided to try to fix that instead of ignore it (as it should) it may have altered a setting.
Good morning meese. 55 with high of 77 today. It has felt like fall is in the air, with cloudy skies and cooler temps. But still no rain!
Had the transfer inspection yesterday (figuring out if I can transfer my current lease to a two bedroom apartment) and will be discussing the results today. Lots of work to do this week, followed by a long weekend trip to Seattle to meet my cat people and friends. And maybe get some rain too.
More room for books?
LOL! As it stands I may have to put some of my books in storage. To use a bfitz term, we shall see what we shall see.
This is more about getting a roommate and helping someone out.
{{{basket}}} – Healing Energy – & just Energy all around to deal with what you’re so caringly dealing with.
Good morning, Meesefolk; 37 now with a cloudy high of 54 before the rain moves in again and settles here for days. I feel badly for tomorrow’s trick-or-treaters, even though we’ll be one of the lights-out houses. (Our village sets the time for trick-or-treating so early that I’m not home from work in time, and The Hubby is still sleeping before going in to work.) They’ve adjusted it a bit now that the time change comes later, but I’m still only home for the last 30 minutes, so I don’t bother.
Nothing much new on The Kiddo’s moving story. They’ve been taking boxes over every night, but the movers don’t come in until Thursday to finish the packing; Friday to do the moving. Kiddo did inform me they probably won’t look at the blueprints until I’m down on Saturday. I’m convinced this is a plot to torment me; patience isn’t my strong suit. ????
As far as I’m concerned, 45*’s 14A announcement has to be viewed as a distraction for the Left and red meat for the Right. There’s no question this has been part of the Right’s plan for years and years, but after the midterms is the time to let it become a focus. Now it’s all about voting and GOTV efforts.
Good day to and for all!
63 heading for 72 which is the highest we’re getting for the foreseeable future, front’s moving in. It’s already overcast (although it was beautifully clear before dawn – with the nurturing Mother aspect of the Moon shining so brightly I sent a lot of folks love & Healing Energy by way of her) though the rain isn’t supposed to start until close to midnight. Got 9.2 KWHs yesterday and the m-t-d is 245 – hopefully we will manage to get over 250 for the month even with the cloud cover/rain. I’m probably not even going to try for trick-or-treaters this year. I didn’t get any last year. I think mine is one of 2 houses on this block that actually have a welcome to the kids – it’s not worth it for the parents who are driving around looking for places for their kids to hit. I give out quarters rather than candy anyway. I can use any quarters I don’t give out. I always had trouble getting rid of the candy back when I gave it out. The Evil Ones are evil. They are consolidating power and trying to make their hold on power permanent in every illegal cheating way possible. We have a chance to stop them. That’s what we need to concentrate on – voting. Nothing else. Yes, the evil is evil – people are being hurt, some are dying – we cannot stop that by letting ourselves be distracted from the goal. We have to get power back to be able to stop this evil. That’s it. Do what you can right now where you are as far as evil stuff is concerned but otherwise – if there’s nothing you can actually do – head down and GOTV. Healing Energy to everybody shaped to the need. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 49 and cloudy in Bellingham. Between election worries, tRump angst, and general life overload I’m not sleeping well again so my morning check in time is even later. Oh well, I sleep when I can and appreciate catching up with all of you when my day finally starts.
My son and I are working on the chair seats for the dining room set that was my parents so my tidy sewing room is now a messy upholstery shop. When I was working I did “light upholstery”……recovering chair seats, sewing cushion covers, making cornice boxes, etc but I always worked with fabric. We’re using leather for this project and the corners are taxing my skills. Fortunately my son is learning fast and I’m finally able to delegate! We should have the padding and covers on all the seats today, then we (he) can finish the corners.
I think the table and chairs are a 1920’s reproduction, but it’s good to see the furniture restored and know it will be used again.
Take care everyone.
I love hearing that you’re making the effort to restore a family piece…but I feel your pain with the leather. I’ve worked with leather once, and I fully intend to make it my last time. I’m sure the chairs will be amazing.
Wednesday Meese
30 degrees going up to 50 here in the Catskills
Was glad to see this yesterday – deeply saddened that people would have to protest during a time of mourning
Meanwhile – ignored Puerto Ricans continue to die preventable deaths
I retweeted the Puerto Rico tweet. That is horrifying.
The orange vomitsack got his photo ops with wounded first responders in Pittsburgh and that is all he cared about. You can’t teach empathy and people who expect anything else – ever – are delusional. I am still dumbfounded that people on the right are saying that no one blamed President Obama for the Charleston massacre of black churchgoers, why should they blame Trump for this shooting? JHC on a popsicle stick!! Well, yes, Barack Obama’s very presence in the White House incited a white supremacist to gun down black people – on what planet is that the same as Trump embracing full-throated white nationalism and promoting anti-Semitic conspiracy theories?
Good morning, meese! Wednesday …
It is 46 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 55. Partly cloudy skies are in the forecast.
I can’t believe that it is already the end of October! This evening I will disconnect the doorbell and take my dog into the basement where we will read and relax for two hours while the trick or treaters are going door to door. Leaving a porch light off is supposed to be a sign that we have no treats but it does not always work. My dog would not want people on her front porch and would definitely hate the doorbell!
A week from today, those of us who don’t stay up all night will know if the Democratic Party will take control of at least one of the houses of Congress to build a firewall to Republican Unified Government. Our enthusiasm is high and people are knocking on doors and making phone calls and early voting, when they can. Let’s get this done!
See all y’all later!
Great weather, at least for the first part of the day. Supposed to rain early evening, so along with my witch robe (glad I live in a university town, got a graduation robe years ago at Goodwill) & hat, I have my rain slicker.
Today’s music is a deleted scene from Harry Potter (they had a scene with a band with people from Radiohead…. and they deleted it??)

I got a postcards to voters postcard – and it is adorable!
Good morning, Moosekind! It’s a fair morning here in Ashburn. The tree foliage is just beginning to turn. Currently the temperature is 38 F., going up to 69 F. I don’t think rain and the cold front are moving in until tomorrow night.
Yesterday I picked up Miss Pink Cheeks at her usual bus stop as she hasn’t yet changed schools. I must say that now she’s wearing her Gryffindor headband from the Harry Potter shop, her hair looks considerably neater. Comfort in the new house is still a work in progress, as things are still in boxes and the Verizon person did not show up as requested. No telling when they’ll get wifi! I hate monopolies. Thought Congress had passed an act against them a century ago. Sniff.
Anyway, just changed my Lasik appt so I can pass out sample ballots on Election Day. Our precinct captain, who claims she isn’t actually one, has organized a whole roster of people to do it all day long.
Waiting for the carpet cleaning person to show up. As usual, AP forgot they’d arranged to do it from 9 to 11, so he or she is late. We really do not appreciate this. Of course, we don’t think that anyone, anywhere, can really remove the pet stains from the carpet. We’ve tried with lots of different remedies and equipment.
Not much to say except that I wish there were a quiet corner of the Moose where princesspat, DoReMI, and I could chat without disturbing anyone else. Or else we could exchange email addresses. Princess and DoReMI have The Knowledge, which I am going to need, as National Novel Writing Month begins at midnight and my new book is about fashion. :)
Hope it’s a good day for all at the Pond!
Hmmmm Diana…….not sure I have much of The Knowledge these days. But if I do I’m happy to share!
Thanks for writing about your adjustments to life at Ashburn. It’s especially nice to know you are cooking again as your meals always seem so tasty. Sometimes cooking is a chore, but at other times it’s a comfort. It’s good to have choices!
Diana, I too am not sure how much knowledge I have, but I’m always ready and willing to be a research assistant. I’ll send you a DM via Twitter with my email address.
Thank you, received it!
Happy Samhain Week! (I count Samhain as starting 10/31 & ending 11/5) 55 with 100% humidity and so overcast the PV system hasn’t come out of night mode yet. We’ve already had the high for the day but we aren’t expected to get much cooler – slowly drift down to the 46 that’s tomorrow’s projected high. We got 5 KWHs yesterday which brought the m-t-d to 250. I expect to get a little bit more but seriously doubt we’ll make it to 255 at this point.
Evil Ones are being evil. They will never stop of their own volition. So we have to stop them. Our closest and best chance at the moment is this election. Holding the Good Thought and Channeling Healing Energy. For our nation, for everyone in it, for the folks I know about and the folks I don’t. Even the Evil Ones I don’t wish harmed – just very completely and very securely rendered harmless. We who care outnumber them. We will overwhelm them. Mourn the dead, tend the hurt, and at least slow the Evil Ones down for another generation. We will do this. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 51 and still dark in Bellingham. The PNW dark season is here now with twilight starting in the late afternoon, daylight eventually coming, and sunlight whenever the cloudy, foggy skies decide lighten up.
We’re going to our son’s house tonight for Halloween time with the grand girls and pizza for dinner, so no left over snicker bars to tempt us. RonK is good at hiding them but I know his favorite spots :)
Happy Halloween!
Ha! I, too, am a Snickers fan—at least, when I can’t get English chocolate.
We are twin souls, princesspat!
Good afternoon, Meesefolk; a rainy 46 when I got up, and now a rainy 54. It was torrential last night, but now it’s more of a steady drizzle. This is the kind of day where wrapping up in a cozy throw and reading a cozy book is recommended…if it weren’t for work.
Before work, I went to a very early breakfast with a friend. We see each other only rarely anymore, just because her kids are still in HS and she’s always busy. She called because she didn’t want to make any “mistakes” on her ballot; I was so touched that she reached out. We went over her sample ballot, ate too much, and laughed (and vented) before I had to leave for work. It was good for me too, because it’s easy to feel isolated in our red corner of MI.
Good day to and for all!
Howdy fellow Meeses! It’s a bright sunny 74 degrees here in Costa Mesa. Unfortunately the humidity has gone up to 51%. Yuck. Doing fine but yesterday got disgusted by Trumpy things happening and cocooned last nite. I would love to go back to my former morning ritual of waking up and then checking the weather app to see how the day would be. I wish the election were tonite instead of Tuesday. Back to work. See ya later.
Cocooning is a sanity-saver, isn’t it? In pre-45* days, I’d feel guilty for my “lazy days.” Now I view them as an occasional, but necessary, break if I’m to be effective at all.
It certainly beats going completely loopy. :)
Thursday Meese. 54 and raining here in NYS.
Trump’s vile games.
