Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

Good morning, meeses! Friday …
It is 54 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 72. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. The front that moved through yesterday was preceded by a spike in temperatures but obviously brought us beautiful weather for at least a day. It looks like the weekend will be rainy and quite cool.
I, for one, am not interested in any thing Comey did. He will be punished for eternity for his misdeeds when the history of this time is recorded as will everyone who enabled Trump to carry out his crimes against humanity. Post-Trump America will be forever changed, the trust in our institutions damaged irreparably. I hope that the Democratic president and her Congress make changes to restore the role of checks and balances and to remember that good legislation is how you neuter the Supreme Court – don’t depend on any Supreme Court ruling to not be overturned when partisans are put in charge. The letter from Senate Republicans decrying Democrats trying to “politicize the court” made me laugh out loud. They literally put a partisan hack on the court, a man who had spent his career in Republican party politics and who had, at his confirmation hearing, told everyone that he would “punish the Democrats” for making him sad. There are obviously no mirrors in the Senate Republican cloakroom.
I would not wish anything bad on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort because that would be wrong. But if Dorian could swing by there and bring some karma in his wake, I will try not to overindulge in the Schadenfreude.
Today is the last working day of August ahead of a long holiday weekend so I need to get some projects done and a good September project list built.
See all y’all later!

He’s delusional and such a liar that the WaPo openly wondered this morning if the standard for presidential veracity has been forever eroded. Now good old Unca Joe is making up stories about valor on the battlefield. Duh!
It would be lovely to think karma will punish him for how he’s treated PR.
Good Freya’s Day, Meese! It’s another lovely morning, with a current temp. of 59 F. in Ashburn, going up to 88 F. later. Ugh.
Thinking of going to the gym this morning and then heading up to the music classroom in the main clubhouse to paste stickers on campaign literature. There’s going to be a big canvassing effort this weekend by the Loudoun County Democrats, presumably for the November elections.
Had a reasonably decent night’s sleep, although I still woke up too early. Tomorrow I’m going on an excursion to the Book Fair in DC. I’ve never been to one.
This morning I received some money so donations to Kamala, Becky’s AIDS ride, and Dan McReady are in order.
Wishing all at the Pond a good day!
I did sleep last night so I’m at work today. I’ve felt better but I want to use the desktop computer & I can tough out 8 hours working inside, in air conditioning. Got to do a diary this morning because of the matched donations starting at 10am. And it’s bill paying day, yay.
and I posted it: https://www.motleymoose.com/2019/08/30/12512/10000-matching-donations-for-aids-walk-austin-starting-at-10am/
I hope the match is still going. I just donated. {{{HUGS}}}
It did match you! I’m so happy! See, Diana – this unexpected late match makes up for the early one.

Good morning meese. Checking in from the Sacramento Airport on my way to Seattle for the weekend. It’s 60/92 in Folsom and 66/76 in Seattle with 60% chance of rain. It’ll be good to be there and I head back on Tuesday.
Nice to know you are in the PNW. Bellingham is about 1.5 hours north, depending on the infamous I 5 traffic. Hope you enjoy your weekend and the inevitable rain showers.
Welp, it’s 64 in Fay., AR and raining. (We did get 17.4 KWHs yesterday and the m-t-d is 397.5 so we’re really close to 400. If the sun comes out…) I haven’t a clue what we’re gonna do today. The plan was drive up to the Harley dealer in Rogers w/ my older son following on his Harley and rent a Harley for my younger son. Then the boys would ride to Eureka Springs while the rest of us followed in the car. We’d do the tourist thing in Eureka for most of the day then reverse the proceedings. But since it’s raining – went from 40% chance in last night’s forecast to actual pouring rain at 5 a.m. – I don’t know what the plans will be. Neither riding motorcycles nor exploring late Victorian combined with hippie/dippie woo-woo artistry towns are much fun in the rain.
My younger son and family got here a little after 7 yesterday – they did a detour to Crater of Diamonds State Park so at least they got in one “touristy” thing on this trip. Didn’t find any diamonds though. There actually are diamonds to be found but mostly it’s quartz crystals if you find anything at all. The grandsons were a bit hyper but that figures. They don’t really know me very well. They only see me about once a year and the visits are short. By the time they’ve gotten used to me, they’re gone again. They’re so much younger than the other grandsons that neither of my sons have made the special effort it would take to have the cousins see each other more often. It probably would have been different if we all lived closer together but that’s a path we didn’t take so who knows. I will enjoy having them here while/when they are here. Meanwhile I’m waiting for them to call and tell me what we’re doing today. LOL. So I’d best get my coffee and be ready to roll whatever we do. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 65 and cloudy in Bellingham. Yesterday was a full day of housekeeping, but thanks to Sue (my 2 x’s a month helper) the house is clean again. The kitchen and bathrooms were well used this summer!
I’m tired today, so I’ll rest this morning and then prepare for our visit with Ron’s brother tomorrow. We’re taking a birthday lunch for him and flowers and cards for the family. The unrelenting cancer pain our SIL is experiencing is a horrible reality so we’ll keep our visit short and as supportive as possible.
Best wishes to all.
Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 50 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 72. Mostly cloudy skies are in the forecast but it appears as though the chance of rain disappeared. Sounds like a good day for a long walk!
The news today is mostly gossippy stuff and Trump reminding us of how awful Republicans are to cede control of the military and intelligence operations to a man with no impulse control who craves attention. Every Republican elected should be embarrassed to think that they could limit the damage being done to literally everything in government. The big headline that should scare even more Republicans into announcing their retirements is that Trump’s trade war will now hit consumers just in time to ratfk the holiday shopping season. The recession will be deep and painful if it stops people from buying consumer goods. This is a self-inflicted wound which can be laid directly at the feet of Republicans and their standard bearer. This is why it angers me so much that Joe Biden is willing to give the Republican Party a mulligan for Trump and sing kumbaya with the post-Trump Republican Party. #ThereAreNoGoodRepublicans
So because the virtual caucus technology isn’t secure, the DNC has waived the requirement that Iowa has to include the old and infirm, those who work, those who who can’t sit around for 8 hours listening to berners scream at them, and those who are disabled. Nice job, DNC, you are useless. How about early voting options and mail-in ballots that you can request? I am already ticked off that the two whitest states in the country – and Iowa, for crying out loud, Trump country! – are picking who our nominee should be. Howard Dean in 2000 – before he had to suck up to Iowa – was right: caucuses are a ridiculous way to pick a nominee and completely undemocratic.
With Congress still in recess, there is nothing much coming out of Nancy Pelosi’s newsroom. If the Senate Democrats’ weekly address is weak, I will skip the Fighting Back post. I should probably find a more consistent source of postable material but I am an old dog who hates to learn new tricks! It was definitely easier when I would just have to cut and paste President Obama’s weekly address for my Saturday post. Looking forward to President Harris providing me with material. :)
See all y’all later!
Saturday Meese 60 here in the Catskills going up to 80
Am up – getting ready to go help feed 20+ people – more on the way.
Goddess give me strength to make it through the week – lol
Have fun.
Up & watching the news. I actually slept really well last night. Yesterday at work was exhausting, we were really short staffed and I kept getting new library patron set ups — which yes, is a good thing, but each call takes about 20 minutes. 20 minutes times 7 people….. Anyway, day 1 of a 3 day weekend. I do need to make lunch for next week, but I haven’t decided what yet. Got several donations, and matches yesterday so that was great.
It’s 62 heading for 82 in Fay., AR – cloudy but not so much I couldn’t drive & do my Saturday morning shopping. Yesterday managed to clear off and we did the day as planned. (We also got 10 KWHs and the m-t-d is 408 – W00T!! If we get another 10 today that will pull 2019 out of last place. LOL) My sons doing the motorcycle rides probably had the most fun. Eureka Springs is a tourist town for those who are into late Victorian/early Edwardian architecture and the modern “woo-woo” version of healing that’s always gone with this town. Wealthy folks came here to “take the waters” from the various springs in the area and the place became known as “Little Switzerland” – the last revitalization (of several) was in the late ’70s & early ’80s at which point Eureka acquired all the mostly appropriated crystal-waving, essential oil (now add CBD oil) touting, non-Western medicine healing, tied-dyed hippie-dippie stuff to add to the “waters” and the shops that still sell “fine cigars” as gentlemen used to (some still do) take pride in. I don’t know whether I’m getting old, jaded, or woke but I made me sad to see all the dry or bare trickles of springs that were taken out of their natural courses and piped into the famous hotels over a century ago.
The youngsters got both over-excited and over-tired. It’s not really a town for kids for all that it is a town of myth and make believe. So they’re having a ‘normal’ Saturday morning in the rental house while their parents take a break from driving and start the prep for the family get together this evening. It’s my 2nd grandson’s 19th birthday and while he no longer lives with his folks, he’s condescended to joint the party so there’ll be a birthday cake for him as well as the grilled chicken & ribs, potato salad, and who knows what else. Fortunately the game starts at 3 pm which means the streets will be clear when the family needs to be on them. LOL. So I will get coffee and do my internet stuff then decide what I’m bringing & prep it. heh. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 66 and partly sunny in Bellingham. Our SIL is in too much pain for a visit so our plans have changed. I hope Ron can see his brother next week. He sounded very stressed and sad when he called last night.
I’ve got to make a few phone calls and then I think RonK and I need to make a picnic lunch and find a spot where we can just be outdoors for the afternoon.
Best wishes to all.
