Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

Ugh. If it wasn’t Friday — a day we are always incredibly short-staffed, I’d have stayed home. Had a terrible night last night. Thought, since I was awake at 4:30 that I’d come on downtown & get in a walk before work, but it was/is raining, so that didn’t happen either. The good (great) news is that the front came through & it is actually chilly out! I wore a jacket. Yesterday I wore sandals. It is lovely to be on the cool side. I scratched so much last night I had to find some salve from my marathon days, to use this morning. Going to have to keep the bedroom cool enough for me to wear gloves to sleep tonight, see if that helps. Using City of Blinding Lights to help me stay conscious. There were races where I swear this song actually carried me over hills, maybe it can carry me through today.
Good Freya’s Day morning, Moosekind, and a fair, lovely day it is, too. Bone-dry as usual: how long will it take us to become like poor old California? When I took Monty out to the courtyard at 5:30 this morning, it was 45 F. in Ashburn. Today’s high is projected to be 72 F. Very glad to hear Austin is experiencing a cold front!
The apple bran muffins are in the oven, so we’ll have breakfast as soon as they’re finished. I love this recipe because rather than white or brown sugar, it calls for the chopped apple, 1/2 cup of apple juice concentrate, and 1 tablespoon of molasses for the sweetening.
The wretched eating regime I’m on is producing results, so I should stop complaining about it. We’ll see what happens.
Trying to get table space at the November Crafts Fair is proving to be uphill work. I think it’s mean of them not to give table space to the Writers’ Group. Writing is as much craft as art. I’m going to try one more time and after that—screw ’em. I’ll print the booklets anyway, so guess what the people in my hallway will be getting for Christmas!
The news is too fast and furious for me to comment on. My eyebrows have long since disappeared into my hair, which is rapidly thinning with rage.
Wishing a good day to all, and hope we can retain our sanity until January 2021!
The rain all seems to have happened yesterday morning through about 4 am today but the cold came in as projected. It’s 31 with windchill of 28 and we might get to 50 today. Yesterday we got 3.5 KWHs and the m-t-d is 88 – nope, not gonna make 300 this month. Just hope we manage at least 250. The sun’s supposed to come out around lunch time and that will help. The house is still – just barely – too warm for the furnace to come on. I have a fire started – had to re-start it several times – but it’s not giving off much heat yet. I hope these wood bricks work. It’s way too late to get decent cordwood. Still waiting on the Tractor Supply brand to come in. The manager has called the warehouse, repeatedly, but keeps getting the same answer “we have your order, it will be shipping soon” – so we’re all waiting. sigh.
World news/national news is horrific. The only thing surprising is that the MSM is airing it so we know about it. Which is why I suspect a trap in there somewhere. The Cabal wanting to get rid of twitler and install Pence/Cromwell II while blaming the Dems for it is what I suspect but that also seems kinda obvious. The Evil Ones being evil is never a surprise though. Meanwhile earicicle/AmeliaEarhart1 needs help right now to continue staying in the motel while the Social Worker is tracking down leads for more permanent lodging for her. And I can’t do it. It’s $720 per week. Hell, my Social Security is just over 1-1/2x that per month. Lots of prayers/invocations/flat out magic needed. And just one foot in front of the other. It’s how we survive disasters large and small.
This is the first day of truly winter weather although winter itself isn’t here yet. Not for months by the colonizer calendar, about 3 weeks for some of the more Traditional calendars. Probably more coffee than usual, maybe some tea (if it doesn’t upset my tummy – tea frequently does), and definitely soup for lunch. But we start with coffee. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, Meesefolk; 55 when I got up [late] this morning and headed to 70. Rain is supposed to move in later today, but I should be firmly and cozily ensconced in my sewing room by then. Or I may just take a nap; I’ve been very good at staying motivated and un-lazy this week once I started feeling human again, so I may reward myself.
The latest report that the administration/45* may have provided intel to Turkey re the Kurds has left me reeling once again. I’m so appalled by the cavalier attitude towards classified information, particularly re intel that has a direct impact on human beings. Back in the day when I worked as a defense analyst, I had a clearance. It was beyond the run-of-the-mill clearance; my work required it, and to this day, I can’t really talk about what that work was except in the most general terms. Protection of intel/sources/methods was drilled into us, and I don’t think I was at all alone in feeling like this was a trust that I would never breach. Lives depended upon our ability to keep classified information classified, and because I have no way of knowing if that is still the case, I default to ongoing silence. It’s not hard to understand. Doing anything less is effectively murder. And that’s what is happening in our name. I can’t even…
Good day to and for all!
{{{DoReMI}}} – it’s treason. It’s also war crimes. And they don’t care. They believe their way is the “one true way” – and that any means justifies the end of getting/keeping the power to impose that “one true way” on everyone. In fact where decent people enjoy puppy pics and watching babies playing together, they enjoy causing/watching the torture and deaths of “others” who do not belong to or believe in their “one true way” – Spanish Inquisition, witch trials, Trail of Tears, picnics at lynchings…Evil Ones are evil because they enjoy it. They get a thrill from it. Which is why it’s taken centuries to make progress against them. And it’s so effen easy to lose some of that ground. Since we’ve had a name to do it in, it’s been done in our name. So we who know it’s evil have to face that, acknowledge that, as well as keep putting one foot in front of the other on that uphill path. (Yeah, I know. I’m preaching to the choir. If anyone knows this, she’s you. moar {{{HUGS}}})
Came home — was talking to a patron & lost track of what I was saying, so I decided to come home. Going to take a nap. Oh – and it is crazy cold. Yesterday I was wearing short sleeves & sandals, today it is 48 degrees, in the middle of the day!
Healing Energy & I hope a nap – and the much cooler weather – helps. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 43 and partly sunny in Bellingham. Our grand puppies, Milo and Maggie, arrived early this morning so we’ve walked, played and found all the food sources. They are sleeping beside me now, and all the pillows belong to them :)
The news still feels overwhelming today so I’m glad to have puppy distractions. Best wishes to all.
Saturday Meese
52 going up to 67 here in Saugerties NY.
Not pool weather.
Holey moley! I would NOT want to be the person helping a ginormous bull moose out of a swimming pool!!

Ah! He found her and is trying to figure out how to attack her!! You know who else laughs at their own jokes – Barack Obama. That probably irritated the Orange Orshole as well. He is scared of smart personable people who enjoy life and are admired because he is dumb and gross – and miserable and despised.
Puerto Rico
After the Dems win, we need to add two or three more liberal justices, or else impeach Gorsucks—who is occupying a stolen seat—and Kavanaught.
Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 37 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 46. Sunny skies this morning, clouding up this afternoon and rain expected this evening. I turned the furnace on but it has not kicked in yet – the overnight program is set to 66 degrees and it is 67 in the house. A sweatshirt will have to suffice.
I like how the newspapers are identifying Giuliani as “the president’s lawyer” as in “the president’s lawyer is under investigation” and “the associates of the president’s lawyer were arrested.” Don’t let tRump off the hook for his part in setting up this crime ring in the White House and using his personal lawyers and slimey friends to feather his own nest and promote his re-election. Some day – soon, I hope – the Republicans will pay the price for trading tax cuts and judges for decency and the rule of law. We can repeal the tax cuts and remove the worst judges but the blemishes on their souls are permanent.
The weekly Democratic Party address is by Chuck Schumer bemoaning Mitch McConnell’s legislative graveyard. :::yawn:::. I am not very motivated to put up a Fighting Back this morning – there was no Nancy Pelosi presser and Chuck Schumer, in my opinion, is an ineffective leader. I wish we would kick him to the curb and elect someone like Tammy Duckworth who is smart and pulls no punches. I am sick of kumbaya with the destroyers in the Senate – I want eyes poked! I think I will just put the address and a followup on H.R.3, the prescription drug bill, in the comments of last weeks post. Plus, I don’t want to take that great President Barack Obama, Commander in Chief, photo from DoReMI’s post off the front page!
I made it through a very chaotic week filled with interruptions and now I need to peel back the stacks of notes that have accumulated and sort my Inbox to put together a good to-do list for the weekend and next week. Everyone here, except the banks, will be working on Monday so I won’t get a day off from new crises; I can’t put off any projects – today and tomorrow are it.
See all y’all later!
Good luck with all the work, Jan!

Good Saturn’s Day morning, Moosekind! It’s 53 degrees F. and overcast, not terribly inspirational. It’ll work its way up to 72 F. in Ashburn later today.
By the grace of Goddess we were allowed to sleep until past 7 a.m. this morning. It feels so much like getting an unexpected birthday present that I want to celebrate! I’ll celebrate by cleaning the toilets with my yellow shock-headed Trump toilet brush. Then I’ll go for my oh-so-essential-for-weight-loss walk, and come back to type up my interview notes. I may be inspired to finish writing “Cat Walk” as well.
Yesterday I listened to some Democratic candidates for an hour, then visited Dem HQ after lunch. There were several other volunteers there, preparing walk packets. I did it for two hours but then my 5 a.m. awakening kicked in, so I had to go home. I think two hours is enough anyway. Did I tell you I found someone to go with me on the great door-knocking weekend (November 2-4)? Met her through Orange and she lives next to me in Potomac Green, five minutes away. That will make canvassing less awful.
Have to visit Younger Son’s dog at dinner time today, also twice tomorrow and once on Monday morning. He’s a really nice dog, but he thinks he’s a lot smaller than he is. A big white boxer doesn’t fit very comfortably into my lap!
It’s to be hoped that on a three-day weekend nothing much will happen politically. Hope Japan escapes the full wrath of that typhoon!
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
After coming home from work yesterday, and taking a nap — I still managed to really sleep last night. I still itch a lot, one of my wake-ups was around 12:30 or so & I had to put more lotion on my arms & legs. But 8ish hours of sleep feels wonderful. It is cold — 54 degrees this morning & sleeves hurt, but I’ll get used to it. Maybe I’ll get some long sleeved things & soak them in fabric softener. Here, have some happy, beautiful music from INXS: Shine Like It Does.
Shine like it does
Into every heart
Shine like it does
And if you’re looking
You will find it
This is the story
Since time began
There will come a day
When we will know
{{{anotherdemocrat}}} – so glad you managed to get some good sleep. Holding the Good Thought that becomes normal for you. moar {{{HUGS}}}
We’ve reached the time of year when the “feel’s like” temp is less than the actual. My hands are not happy about it. I turned the furnace on last night. It kicked on somewhere around midnight and cycled through several times over the course of the night and early morning. Probably will at greater intervals over the course of this so-far sunny day (like now for instance) as the high is projected to be 60 and I’ve got it set at 62. I’m debating another day-long fire (rather than just evening fire) – it would definitely be more pleasant but a day-long fire uses an entire package of the wood bricks plus a couple of cord-wood logs. With just an evening fire I get thoroughly warmed up enough to sleep. I’m not gonna sleep during the day anyway. Yesterday was beautiful, even if not comfortable to be out in. We generated 12.8 KWHs and made it to 100.4 for the m-t-d. Not on track for 300 but definitely for 250. The kitties are not happy because I’ve closed the window to the porch since the furnace is on. I’ll open it later when the sun’s warmed it up a bit.
Evils Ones being evil. Nothing new. Poor Ol’ Chuck – he still can’t get used to the fact that the Senate is no longer the “Gentlemen’s Club” all those rules courteously considering and even giving power to the minority party made it. The House never had those rules so Nancy didn’t have any illusions about how to deal with the Rs – keep your caucus together, outvote them when you can, throw roadblocks to slow them down when you can’t outvote them. Senate Dems, and especially whoever is the official leader of Senate Dems, needs to learn that lesson and fast. Because whether or not we get the Senate back in 2020, unless/until we break up that MSM RW propaganda machine, we won’t keep it long.
earicicle/AmeliaEarhart1’s straits are pretty dire right now. Any & all prayers/invocations/whatever your Tradition does are needed. Aji & Wings got one good sale that will at least cover what her Patreon didn’t of the taxes plus the propane tank annual rental and maybe get the plumber out to finish the repairs & close up the wall (or whatever her next priority is). Holding the Good Thought for more sales – it being the time of year they normally make enough sales to cover their normal expenses for the coming year. Be nice if something normal happened in somebody’s life. Meanwhile I need coffee. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 41 and partly sunny in Bellingham. My house is so quiet this morning it’s hard to engage with the day. I’ve been outside with Milo and Maggie and they are now sleeping beside me, tempting me to snooze along with them.
We started moving stuff in the basement so we can paint another wall. Between our family belongings and the last of our parents and grandparents things we have too much stuff! Oh well, this shuffle will result in better organization and a cleaner place to work at sorting it all out. Ron will start painting today and our son will help me move things from an upstairs closet, the storage locker and the garage. As I said, too much stuff!
Best wishes to all.
