Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Nov. 24th through Nov. 30th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Good morning, 33 and sunny in Bellingham. Our rolling TDay is on day 2…..cooking and prep yesterday, all family lunch and afternoon time together, dinner later (sans dogs), then dessert and a collapse!

Thanks for the moose fixes Jan, and as always, best wishes to all,

  2. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

It is 36 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 36. Light rain today then mixed precipitation this evening.

Today is very thin on news – there is not even a Democratic Party Weekly Address! Since that is the centerpiece of my Fighting Back post, I will let the post take a holiday as well and pick up next week when there will be impeachment hearing news.

Tomorrow is December – or as I am calling it – HOWINTHEHELLDIDITGETTOBEDECECEMBER and I have some things that need to be dated in November so I will be putting my nose to the grindstone to get them delivered.

One helpful hint on checking comments before Posting: the Edit Comments plugin has the Spellcheck and Full Screen icons available as part of the comment box (right under the tags for bolding, italicizing, linking, and the blockquote). If you click the Full Screen icon, the proposed comment shows in a larger box and it may work as a Preview until I can find something else.

    See all y’all later!

  3. Saturday Meese – Shirley Chisholm’s Birthday today
We are about to get hit by a massive snowstorm tomorrow here in NYS. Got awakened by a weather alert on the tv “WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM SUNDAY TO MIDNIGHT EST MONDAY NIGHT … Total snow accumulations of 12 to 24 inches … From 7 AM Sunday to midnight EST Monday night”

    Sigh.

  5. Crazy warm morning — 73 degrees. Cold front this afternoon & it’ll be in the 50s at dinnertime. Eating breakfast & watching the news. Got in 1.4 miles yesterday, on the treadmill since it kept trying to rain. Looks like I’ll have a sunny warm walk this afternoon, before the front. Today, I need to thaw out next week’s lunch, cook some veggies to throw into the frozen dinners I’ll buy, and go grocery shopping.

  6. Welcome to St. Andrew’s Day, Meese! It’s gray this morning in Ashburn, with a current temp. of 39 F. and a high predicted of 42 F. Tomorrow it’s going to rain all day, supposedly, so we want to get our grocery shopping done today.

Sister Dee, hope you have everything you need for a snowbound day, and also hope your husband is recovering well.

We’ve got to start getting this place ready for the children’s overnight visit next weekend. I’m hoping they can decorate our little artificial Christmas tree, a task they’ve traditionally performed for us, and which their parents performed before that.

I also have to exercise, which I haven’t done in a couple of days. At least I’ve had 7 hours’ sleep without drugs, which is nice—never mind that it took me from 11:30 to 12:30 to drop off last night.

Haven’t kept up with the news much as I’ve been preoccupied with personal matters. I did see that some Rethug state legislatures are trying to pass a law that ectopic pregnancies must be reimplanted in the owner’s uterus, or else doctors will face murder charges and imprisonment. Do male Rethug pols have any idea at all about women’s anatomy? Or do they just undergo a massive infusion of Stupidity Fluid while asleep at night? May Sekhmet the Blood Drinker haunt their horrid dreams at night, and may they wake up with numerous nasty infestations.

Well, on that cheery note, it’s time to have breakfast and begin my day! Wishing a good, restful Saturday to all at the Pond.

  7. It’s 59 at the moment – was 64 at dawn and will be again around noon or so – and trying to clear off which is good. Yesterday we got just under one kilowatt again and 158.75 KWHs is the current m-t-d. So we should definitely reach 160 and if we get some good sunshine maybe even 165. That’s not great, the lowest since I got the 4K system, but it’s still better than the 2.5K system. And really, as long as I don’t end up paying an electric bill in February or March, I’m good.

Quiet is good. I can think of many things worse. And knew/know people who’ve gone through them (including myself in the past). I can be very content with quiet and boring. Of course until my friends, especially Amelia who’s in the most urgent situation, are in better shape boring ain’t gonna happen. But it’s something to look forward to. ???????????? As is quiet and boring on the national level. Should that ever occur.

    Now that it’s cleared off enough, I need to go do my grocery shopping. Well, once Murf is off my lap again. Holding the Good Thought for Dee & her husband with the weather coming in. Invoking/Channeling Healing/Helping Energy to all who need and accept it, to their shaping. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  8. Good afternoon, 39 and sunny in Bellingham. We’ve had pie for breakfast, relaxed together in our jammies, and now the family is headed back to their homes. Our son is here hoping to fix the broken sink drain (yay for buckets), RonK went to the park for a walk with Heidi, and I’ve soaked in the tub and gone back to bed. I’m the good sort of weary today.

    Best wishes to all.
