Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 30 degrees right now in Madison with an expected daytime high of 28. Cloudy this morning then sunny this afternoon.
Okay, great! A new endless war!! Is there anyone who doubts that the assassination of the Iranian general was not planned to circle the Senate wagons around tRump for his impending trial? Our only hope is that the short-attention-span American public moves to “next” as quickly as they usually do. It will be an interesting test to see how the news covers this – cable news loves war, it is how CNN made a name for itself, and they will not want to let the chance to cover a new war slip by. An impeachment trial is boring but bombs bursting in air will be a ratings boost. I googled “draft” to make sure that women were still excluded from the military draft (there had been some talk about changing that a few years ago) and found that the Selective Service site had crashed! An article this morning said that there is no draft – it was abolished in 1973 and would take an Act of Congress to re-instate. HAHAHAHA! How quaint! This “president” and his political party have no respect for Article I powers and will do whatever the hell they want.
I was sad to see that the Methodist church has decided to split into two denominations so that the anti-LGBT faction can continue to discriminate. It will be interesting to see how it is implemented – will each congregation vote to decide if their brick and mortar building and ministers will be in the new group or the old group? I hope that DoReMI shows up and can explain it.
The Democratic Party Weekly Address is by Senate Democrats and is about the impeachment trial. Congress is not in session so there was no news conference from Speaker Pelosi so that will be the only “news”. I will decide later if I will put up a new Fighting Back post; right now I have a few projects started that I need to tend this morning.
See all y’all later!
My pastor sent out an e-mail yesterday the he sees it as hopeful. After the caffeine kicks in, I’ll re-read it & see what it says.
Thanks! It looks like nothing will be voted on until May so “what will happen next” is probably a premature question.
Saturday Meese. 47 and raining here in the NY Catskills.

Nice tweet summary of yesterday’s events!
He was looking for a reason:
Thanks Dee. Feels like we’ve been to this rodeo too many times. It’s impt to stay informed though so I appreciate your twitter selections.
Watching the news, flipping back & forth between MSNBC & the local news because there was a stabbing downtown yesterday & I wanted to see if there’s more information about that. Anyway, today: groceries & either a trip to the gym or doing my not-quite running outside. At least there’s not a marathon of any shows I love to keep me glued to the couch.
Good gray Saturn’s Day morning, Meese! Never made it here yesterday because of returning Miss Pink Cheeks (reluctantly, on my part) to her home and picking up her little brother for a weekend stay. This past week I saw three of the four local grandchildren; a week ago today, at the large unseemly holiday dinner here, I saw them all. Grown-up grandson, who will soon graduate from the University of Texas, is staying there.
Anyway, it’s cloudy this morning and we’ll have clouds and rain the whole day. Currently our temp. is 51 F. and the high will be 59 F.
Yesterday, as I said, was very busy as we put away a great many of the Christmas decorations in the storage unit downstairs. Today will be laundry, laundry, laundry. Last night I dreamed I ironed 1,000 of my husband’s handkerchiefs and indeed, I have about three years’ worth stored in a basket. Perhaps I’ll do that today.
As soon as Mr. Kindergartener goes back to his parents after breakfast tomorrow, I really have to hustle on the article I’m supposed to be writing. Our photographer is going to be out of commission from the 19th on after cataract surgery, so there’s little time to lose.
Feeling as concerned as we all are about the prospect of war with what Trumpanzees call “Eye-ran.” This whole administration has seemed Kafka-esque. It’s a nightmare from which we can’t seem to awaken.
Wishing all at the Pond a good day.
It’s 30-feels-like-23 but the sun is shining so that’s good. We reached 4.95 KWHs yesterday – not good but better than the day before and the best so far this month/year. Which also is not good. Maybe today we’ll get a good, solid 7+ (8 is actually possible this time of year). The m-t-d is 12.58 with this morning’s driblet. Whatever. We keep on keepin’ on.
I have not marched in many years. Bathroom issues and not lack of desire. But I’ve protested one way or another. Vietnam. Gulf I, Afghanistan, Gulf II/Iraqi War, and now this. Nixon was the point at which the racist bigotry of the “Southern Strategy” combined with the homicidal/suicidal over-the-edge-Xtian End-Timers. Step by step, yard by yard, year by year – I’ve watched this coming. I’ve seen the points it could have been stopped, points were it could have been reversed, all blithely passed. And maybe this is just another point and we aren’t going over the cliff yet. I hope so. But…whether it is or it isn’t we ordinary folks will do just as the ordinary folks in Japan and China did starting the 1930s, Germany and France did in 1940. Be upset, do what we can find to do towards ending the evil, but mostly live day by day – finding/fixing food, doing our jobs, cleaning up messes, taking care of kids and others who can’t take care of themselves. Unless/until someone shoots us or blows up our neighborhood, we keep on keepin’ on. And if we’re not killed, we still keep on keepin’ on. And pray. A lot.
The sun is shining. That is a present from the real Powers. It’s chilly but I have the riches a tight house, of central heating as well as my wood stove. I’ve clean water at my tap, indoor “waste management”, and food. I’ve electricity for lights and refrigeration. Natural gas for cooking, heating, and hot water on tap. I have friends even if mostly via internet. Which I also have. I have steady income via my Social Security “earned benefits”. I have many blessings and now is a good time to keep counting them. Channeling Healing/Helping Energy to all who need and accept it, to their shaping. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 44 and partly sunny in Bellingham. Between tRump angst and my aching legs I was awake on and off all night so no surprise I’m sleepy and slow this morning. I need some nature therapy so between rain showers I’m going to prune some salal today. I can just sit/stand in place by the bed on the upper patio and if I’m careful my knees should have no reason to complain.
Best wishes to all as we find our way through the day.
