It is really, really hot — heat index of 81 already & the sun is barely up. Watching Ali Velshi, he’s having multiple segments on racism. Deep conversations for this hour of the morning. Today: church, then make my overnight oats for next week, watch a movie or 2…. not going outside, unless I decide it’s super important to take the trash out.

It’s 71 at the moment and I’ve just finished doing my Sunday chores and fixing breakfast. I might (or might not) manage 15 to 20 minutes on the treadmill after my “core temp” has cooled down a bit. Gonna be cooler today than yesterday. Not the air temps so much although the high is showing 90 rather than 95, but the humidity is down and we aren’t getting much in the way of heat index today. So when it says 90, it’ll feel like 90 this afternoon. I can deal with that. LOL.
My little bit of 1st-world good news is (the expensive one) my son and a friend managed to fix the issue on the car (brake lights wouldn’t shut off) that had drained the battery. He did have to buy a new battery, but the old one was 5 years old so it wouldn’t have lasted much longer anyway. Figuring that I’m not gonna have the car for another 5 years he got a cheaper battery than I normally do. Next week one day, after he’s brought me milk, fresh produce, and besan of course, he’s taking it in for a full diagnostic. We’ve been meaning to do this for over 6 months as it’s drinking gasoline and now seems to be a very good time to do it. Depending on what the diagnostic says – what and how much to fix it – I’ll either tell them “do it” or go elderly/used car shopping. The other and much less expensive bit of 1st-world good news is my refilled CO2 cartridges came in yesterday. I know I’m totally blest to have potable tap water at all. To not would be a 3rd-world problem. But tap water in the warmer weather makes me queasy and carbonating it solves that problem.
Some good news for Aji – she got at least one sale last night (that was done on the twitter thread) and added to Friday’s and a previous one earlier in the week that should be good for the taxes that are due Wednesday (a good sale and her Patreon covered the 1st quarter taxes earlier this month). Holding the Good Thought for more than one of course. They’ve cut to the bone – canceled seeding the fields, plumbing repair, chimney cleaning/inspection, all their medical appointments, and their place in the queue for the well – but still need another $1500 to cover insurances that hit in July and basic living expenses like electricity, internet (for their business), and the food they’d hoped their garden would grow this year. $1500 can easily be a single piece of Wings’s silver jewelry or 3 sets of the gemstone earrings and necklace combinations. Just connecting the folks who both want it and can afford it with Aji is the issue. She’s got lots of followers who want it, they/we just can’t afford it. So we boost her threads and hope.
I think, I hope, everybody else is at least OK. I haven’t seen/heard otherwise and nobody’s totally disappeared. I see a “like” on twitter and check the date stamp. If within 24 hours, it’s a “thank you, Lady” and go on with my day. If not…I worry – and keep an eye on wherever they’d likely post.

Good morning, 59 and partly sunny in Bellingham. The small dogs are home now, the dog bed has clean sheets, and I wasn’t a dog pillow last night. I had fun with Maggie and Milo but I’m enjoying the quiet this morning.
I’m going to plant a few flowers today, resume sewing a summer duvet cover, and visit with family via phone. If I add a nap that will be a day. Best wishes to all.

Puerto Rico primary results
Supposed to set a record today — 106. Did a 25 minute walk this morning, I figured waking up at 5:30 was a sign. It was 81 when I was outside, don’t wanna know what the heat index was. Today’s plan: work, and listen to U2. But the song I’ll share this morning is from Snow Patrol, because of the opening lines:

The last cool morning for a while but we’d dropped to 62 at dawn. It’s already 70 and I’ll have to close the house up by 9 but I’ll enjoy the next hour or so of coolth while it lasts. Our heat index will be what anotherdemocrat’s air temps are. sigh. At 23.78 KWHs yesterday was the best we’ve had so far this month and one of only 4 above 20. These daily clouds are seriously messing with the production. The m-t-d is 205 which isn’t on track for the “meet or beat” goal but is at least for getting above 500 for July. Of course it’s already cloudy today. If the sun doesn’t come out we won’t get anything like yesterday. Life or something.
The world is a mess but we keep on keepin’ on. One of my neighbors came out to “visit” and check if I was OK as I was outside dealing with litterbox stuff. My bet is lonely because he doesn’t often do that. We weren’t masked but we kept a good 20′ apart. He’s a nice young man. My window sign says “Return all the stolen children”. His says “Silence is violence”. It was a pleasant “start” to the day. Us libruls need to support each other. Especially considering the traitor-flag-flying people down the street.
Aji’s taxes are covered. She’s still got July insurances and stuff and needs to make sales but at least that deadline has been met. That’s the one that carries severe penalties up to and including jail time so that is the one that took priority. I’ve seen almost everybody else on twitter if nowhere else so at least they’re alive and online. My son’s dealing with plantar fasciitis but he’s still mobile. Since his “barely legal” health insurance from work has a $2500 deductible he basically doesn’t go to the doctor for anything. As close as I come to damning anybody, I’ve been damning the Rs since 1996 when they proudly shot down Hillary’s comprehensive universal affordable healthcare and have been trying to keep it shot down ever since. Not that I thought highly of Rs before then. I didn’t. But I was still naïve enough to thing education was the answer and they weren’t deliberately evil. I got over it.

Good Monday morning, Moosekind! Never made it here yesterday because we were involved with family the whole day. Right now it’s 74 F. in Ashburn, going up to 89 F. Yesterday, just before 6:30 p.m., we had a real downpour for a good 10 minutes. This made me very happy because I don’t have to water this morning.
Sunday began pleasantly at 7 a.m. when six-year-old Mr. First Grader raced out of the bedroom and climbed into my lap while I was sitting in the green recliner. I covered him with an afghan because the flat was cool from the air conditioning, and we had a lovely 15-minute cuddle. In the early morning when he’s still befogged by sleep he forgets he’s a big, tough guy who doesn’t “do” physical affection, which I find very endearing. After he developed a cramp from staying in one position too long, he went over to Grandpa and cuddled with him for a while.
Dearly restored Mr. First Grader to the bosom of his family, so to speak, as they were invited to a noon barbecue at a friend’s house. After that Dearly and I dropped Monty off at doggy day care and went on to Elder Son’s house in Arlington, where we spent the afternoon. Elder Son gave us a wonderful lunch, two-thirds of which was prepared on the grill. For afters we had fruit salad made by yrs truly, along with cookies from Trader Joe’s.
Unfortunately, on Saturday I began to feel rather ill. I don’t think it’s COVID-ill, I think my cold has come back. Dearly took my temperature, which was all of 98.0. I feel “coldish,” so will try to have an easy day today. Anyway, I took cold meds last night, with the result that I slept until after 7 this morning.
Dearly, on the other hand, is feeling a bit better. I still want him to take it easy and just watch TV and so forth, but he’s better than he was.
Not much else to say except there are what, 113 days until the election? It can’t get here soon enough. New Zealand has declared itself virus-free as of today. Just proves that women pols are better than male pols, in my opinion, but then, everyone knows I think women are smarter than men.

No country will really be virus free until all countries are virus free, of course, but New Zealand #BelievesScience and has managed it with the only incidents being people arriving from other countries. Quarantine, keep them away from the smart people and carry on, as they say.
Good morning, 58 and mostly sunny in Bellingham. I finally have flowers blooming in patio and back entrance pots, yay! One planting is large and mixed but the rest are simple so it wasn’t too hard, and to my great relief I don’t feel exhausted today.
I’ve got to work at my desk this morning, then I want to plant one more pot so I’ll go to the garden shop this afternoon. Best wishes to all on this sunny July morning.

It is 75 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 75, so we are there! Sunny skies are in the forecast.
As the way Mercury Retrogrades work, making a hash of communications, I even got the date that Mercury goes direct wrong! I thought it was the 14th but it was the 12th. So we are blessedly out of the retrograde although “some say” that until Mercury gets back to where it was when it went retrograde, we will feel the effects. I think it is more that the boneheaded mistakes we made during the retrograde take at least a week to sort out. :)
I was pleased to see that the team that plays NFL football in Washington DC will have a new name. I hope they don’t name them after tRump – the Washington MAGAts, for example. Money talks and BIG MONEY SHOUTS, apparently. The racist pig Snyder knew that the naming rights to his football stadium would be toxic for anyone except maybe Hobby Lobby and Chik-Fil-Hate. Good riddance.
I can’t stay as I am still wrapping up a weekend project that gave me literally no rest. I did sneak some time away to put up the Fighting Back post – it is important as is Nancy Pelosi speaking to us every Thursday. I still have a few fires burning but I hope to be liberated by Bastille Day.

I think you’re correct about Mercury in retrograde. Correcting the mistakes was always my momma’s issue once it started back direct anyway. It doesn’t impact me nearly as much as it did her – boy howdy, anything to do with communication and transportation was just weird while Mercury was in retrograde for her. I mean weird – like a heavy rainstorm that caused temporary flash flooding and made her late for a meeting with a client. That covered only the city block she was on. Be careful. Los Angeles and San Diego raise a big middle finger to Cruella DeVos and the #RepublicanDeathCult by deciding to #BelieveScience. Good for them! I hope any parent whose child is being thrown into the Herd Immunity test regimen by their governors raise their voices and shouts NO. What is happening in Arizona and Texas and Floriduh is awful – made more so by the fact that you can’t un-cry “hoax” and that will literally kill people.
Dane County is masked now and the City of Milwaukee has passed their mask ordinance; that should help flatten Wisconsin’s curve. I cannot imagine the horror of finding out that every hospital bed in your city/county/state is filled with COVID-19 cases – we are smarter here and in Milwaukee but the hinterlands are sadly on their own, the fallout of electing members of the #RepublicanDeathCult who hate science and hate our Democratic governor.
Dr. Fauci is the current victim of #ETTD (Everything Trump Touches Dies) but so much of it was of his own making. You cannot fluff up a malignant narcissist to try to get him to do the right thing – he will always do the thing that benefits him and fk everyone else. Period. Dr. Fauci would have been wise to consult an expert in personality disorders before throwing his reputation behind tRump’s plans and the extremely ill-advised reopening “plan.” I have no sympathy for him – the evidence was there. I hope the next generation of infectious disease experts are intelligent and smart. Time to move on.
My schedule returns mostly to normal – instead of hair on fire, it is more smoldering follicles. Now I have to clean up my desk which looks like a Post-It-Note pad exploded on it! I will gather all the little notes and put them into a consolidated to-do list and see where I am at.

I think today is the last day over 100, then it’s 98 for the next several. Today: work, an all-staff zoom meeting & listening to music. Yesterday I noticed the Science channel had astronomy shows on (some Mondays they do that, but I don’t know if there’s a pattern to it) so I watched astronomy TV all day.
Happy Bastille Day. I hope it brings some liberation where injustice is running rampant. It’s already 76 heading for low 90s – and heat index in the 100s – I’m gonna have to close up the house before 8 today. And tomorrow. And Thursday. The overnights look to be inching down by Friday morning. I hope. We’ll see if I can keep the A/C off through this. Widget says “partly cloudy” through this heat spate – of course, that’s how high overnights happen – which sux for electricity production. Although not as much as the “mostly cloudy” did yesterday when we only got 6.6 KWHs and the m-t-d is now a definitely-not-on-track 212.
Little cells of rain keep passing through NW NM but going around Aji’s place. Insult to injury or something. They’re the ones who’d planned to be growing food not only for themselves and their own horses but also for local Elders and disabled folks whose families are being hit so hard by the economic side of pandemic. (The Pueblo is closed and will remain so until this is over. Too little healthcare combined with too many “underlying conditions” caused by that lack of healthcare for them to take the chance. But that means no tourists and tourists are the main income for that entire area.) That’s why they’re planning to drill a well and put in an irrigation system. So that even when (like now) they don’t have the money to buy it, they can feed themselves and help their neighbors with food and hay. But the well alone will be $5K, 3x that for the entire system is Wings’s estimate. Being poor means not having the money to prepare for not having money. Among other things. I’ve seen almost everybody else RTing or liking stuff on twitter – but haven’t had any contact with the ones who aren’t on twitter. At least they have family close by.
I’m still in a holding situation until we find out about the car. Fortunately property taxes aren’t due until end of September. I need to get my chimney cleaned and inspected but as long as it’s done before mid September it’ll be fine. We shall see what we shall see. Good Tuesday morning, Meese, and happy Bastille Day…I guess. We have a gorgeous day in Ashburn, bright blue skies and sunshine, with a current temp. of 77 F. It’s going up to 88 F.later, but with low humidity, which sounds agreeable. I can sit on the screened porch and read Mary Trump’s book, which landed on my Kindle this morning.
Still feeling a bit wobbly after the severe gastric attack yesterday evening. As my temperature, oxygen intake, and pulse are normal, and bla bla bla, I don’t think I’ve got “IT.” I can only attribute the violent episode to the tuna pasta salad I ate for lunch yesterday. Dining Services delivered it Saturday and it went straight into the fridge. Only problem is, when the illness is caused by something a person ate, the effects usually begin a lot sooner than five hours afterward. However, Dearly ate the same salad with no ill effects whatever.
Enough about my alimentary tract. I feel absolutely washed out and am not sure how I’ll be able to sit at a computer long enough to do a couple of things I need to do. But I’ll manage, no doubt.

{{{Diana}}} Hope you feel better soon. As to times on feeling bad due to food, it totally depends on why. Allergies and added toxins (like arsenic – OK I read a lot of murder mysteries) are pretty immediate. Things like IBS or celiac reactions take a few hours. For food poisoning it’s anywhere from 4 to 10 hours so 5 is well within the window. Although if Dearly didn’t have a problem with it, he’s either got a much tougher digestive system or it wasn’t food poisoning. Sending more Healing Energy & moar {{{HUGS}}}

Good morning, 60 and sunny in Bellingham. To my surprise I slept the afternoon away yesterday so I don’t have to organize a list for today…..just need to do more than sleep! If I can I want to prune the plantings around my sewing room windows. The rhododendron has filled in, the mahonia and salal have grown, and the ferns need the old growth removed. The windows are at ground level so I can see the garden when I’m in the room, but now all I see are the too tall and dense plants. I like the plants to frame the windows, not obscure them.
The state of our tRump/covid country has me feeling very blue today so I’m going to focus on my small world. Best wishes to all.
Well, crap – it’s 9:30pm & all 3 of the candidates I care about are behind. My congressional candidate will be a Berner, State Senator a walking embodiment of all the worst aspects of white woman privilege….. the closest I come to not being super unhappy is MJ Hegar, though I really would rather Royce West was the candidate. Oh, and ugh, D.A. candidate is a gross Brenie Bro who beat a great woman who has…. Ugh it’s just too much.
That sux. I’m not surprised but it sux. Berners M.O. is taking over the Dem party in the small blue dots of red states. Pretty much what happened in Madison and definitely what happened in Fayetteville proper. And the berner candidates are almost always totally slammed by the Rs in November. sigh.
