Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool, shown here with 3 pages of comments available.

Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 43 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 50. Light rain is in the forecast.
Donald J. Trump has COVID-19 and, because he has at least three of the high risk factors, age (74), weight (obese), and gender (male), he is sick enough to be hospitalized. tRump, by his behaviour, essentially said to a deadly virus “bring it on” and it infected him, his family, his staff, his supporters and the anti-science covidiots in his political party. The silver lining is that there may not be enough uninfected Republican Senators to call a quorum in order to vote on Mrs. Jesse Barrett’s Supreme Court confirmation. They have 53 senators and if 3 can’t be there and all Democrats refuse to vote, there is no quorum and Senate business comes to a standstill. Will Chuck “Really Bad at His Job” Schumer be willing to shut down the Senate or will one of the Komity Kills Democrats like Leahy or Carper refuse to play hardball? I guess we will find out. All I know is that they need to do everything in their power to block a vote on the RBG replacement until after the election. If the court nomination of a lame-duck president is voted on by a lame-duck Senate, I suspect that it will be less likely to pass. Maybe the old hands like Lamar Alexander will find that a bridge too far, maybe the losing Senators will decide not to show up. In any event, it will be our last chance to block her.
The Democratic Party weekly speeches and pressers are all starting out with good wishes to the Orange Orsehole and I can’t bring myself to post them. I may change my mind and put up either the Nancy Pelosi presser from Thursday or the Joe Biden speech from Grand Rapids Michigan as the Fighting Back post. But it won’t be today. I have a golden opportunity in the quiet of a Saturday morning to put some serious time into organizing my to-do lists (I have at least three and I need to get down to one – plus sort my to-do stack) and lay out a plan for October project work. I was thwarted earlier in the week by an unexpected time suck which is always a possibility when clients are working. Saturday is mine.
See all y’all later!
See
I was supposed to walk this morning, but my alarm went off 8 minutes late. I needed those minutes, so I’ll try again tomorrow and set a 2nd alarm. I like walking early in the morning, when it’s still dark & there’s not many people out, it’s like my own private workout area. Today: cooking, cleaning, and…… I think that’s it.
Good morning, Moosekind! It’s a glorious blue-and-gold October day in Ashburn, the same kind of October day on which Dearly and I married, back in the Late Cretinous. Right now it’s 57 F. in Ashburn after a low of 43 F., and it will be 65 F. later. At 7 a.m. when I took Monty out for a brief business meeting, I saw the beautiful Harvest Moon, still quite full. It made me feel good.
Plans include going to watch Miss Pink Cheeks play soccer this morning*, shopping for groceries, and then coming home to watch the Preakness. I have more postcards to write to mail on Monday.
The Murdered Rose Garden attendees are falling victim to COVID like skittles. Refer to Jan as to what might happen if they can’t confirm Awful Amy until after the election. WHY doesn’t Mitch McBitch get it? Everyone else has.
Got to run, hope everyone will have a really nice day! You know what I mean.
I’m bugging Dearly to put our face visors together so we can wear them over our masks. Parents will be screaming encouragement, and it’s well known that IT is spread faster when people sing, cheer, or scream.
It’s 56 heading for 73 and mostly sunny. We only got 13.3 KWHs – m-t-d is 27.5 – but that’s still on track for October. Hopefully we’ll do as well today. Cats were being irritatingly messy this morning. Doesn’t help with my hands the way they are in chilly weather. It makes me clumsier and slower than otherwise. I’ve swept the house once already today and all I have to do is look down to see it needs it again. sigh.
Evil ones being evil. Twitler’s loud and proud Deplorability brought the loud and proud fascists out from under their rocks. Twitler’s having caught the disease he called a hoax – thus killing 200K and counting people who needed the help he refused to provide – has brought the “nice” fascists out from under theirs. “Twitler’s too sick to take democracy from you, so you should give it to him.” Spoiled/entitled two-year-old logic.
Meanwhile everybody’s still hanging on. Upsets my tummy at how close to the edge some are. I get vertigo close to edges. But still hanging on. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 55 foggy and cloudy in Bellingham. Seven new Covid cases in my community this morning, twenty three and counting from the White House super spreader event. I’m restless but looks like I’d best stay in my safety zone today. Harry is in a fierce battle with the bad guys in the latest Dresden Series book so that will be my excitement.
I also need to find better insulation for the exterior door to my sewing room, and I want to shuffle some stuff in the garage so I’ve got plenty to do. I’m fortunate to be able to tend to my own small place in this messy world. Just need to remember that and stop complaining!
Best wishes to all.
