Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool, shown here with 3 pages of comments available.

It’s 44 heading for 46 and overcast. Rain’s expected in a couple of hours. Might get some sun tomorrow. Otherwise the 10-day forecast says socked in until next Friday. sigh. Yesterday the sun was good – as in the clouds held off until almost sundown – and we got 9.2 KWHs (m-t-d is 43.7) but we’ll not see that kind of production today. Or any day next week. Oh well, the month got off to a good start.
Next week is also supposed to be cold. The overnights in single digits towards the end of the week. I’m worried about this batch of cats I’m feeding. Especially the 2 youngest – not kittens but not full grown either – I’m feeding the most to. (The older & bigger cats are getting food somewhere and just come to me for supplemental feeding. The youngsters are probably being chased away from that other food source. I’m certainly feeding them enough to be their only source. But then I don’t just put it out and leave it. I make sure they’re actually here before I put it out – and watch them eat it.) They appear to be sheltering in the crawl space under the house across the street. I hope that’s warm enough. I have sent emails to a couple of cat rescues – and also talked to a few. The ones I’ve talked to say everybody’s awash in kittens because COVID response included shutting down both Animal Control (except emergencies) and the TNP programs. I’ll see what, if any, response I get from the ones I’ve emailed. I don’t mind feeding them and if the crawl space is warm enough it’s definitely safe enough – at least from larger animals. But they’re obviously housecats so I don’t know if they’ve been fixed. No earclip for housecats, only TNR cats. We shall see on this too.
I need to get to my online duties. More coffee first. When I say I get up with the sun, it’s literal. When it’s cloudy, I get up later. Sunrise was at 7:15 and yesterday that’s when I opened my eyes. Today? 7:45. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 43 and raining in Bellingham. I have definitely had a reaction to the Covid shot but RonK is just fine. I’m feeling better today but my arm still itches, is sore to touch, and has a bruise. But I’m taking the second shot regardless.
My daughters are reading Alix Harrow’s new book, The Once and Future Witches so I’ve added it to my TBR stack of books. I’m still reading the Chronicle of St Mary’s books and really enjoying the escape into history and fantasy.
I need to tend to my desk today, so time to get busy. Best wishes to all.
