Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool, shown here with 3 pages of comments available.

Saturday Meese. 10 degrees here in Kingston NY and we have a forecast of snow for the next 4 or 5 days. Sigh.

Good morning from freezing — literally — Austin. I’m watching the local news, it’s all about the winter storm warning. Traffic camera shot was on for about 30 seconds at a major intersection — there was 1 car. I actually used my fireplace yesterday, will do again today. I am leaving the house to pick up my groceries later, and will spend the rest of the day finding places to put my plants inside.
Good Saturday morning, Meese. It’s gonna git ugly in Ashburn today. We’re getting a snow shower right now (or so they say, I can’t see anything) at 28 F. Today’s high will be 29 F. I must skedaddle to the store to get red velvet cake for Miss Pink Cheeks’ birthday tea on Monday. Her birthday is actually Tuesday the 16th but her birthday always gets mixed up with Valentine’s Day.
After the snow shower will come freezing rain. People here can’t drive for toffee, so I predict accidents and worse.
I wrestled with the devil and thank Goddess, I won. I efiled the federal return just before dinner last night and this morning there was a message on my phone that our return has been accepted. Goody!
Got to get dressed and out the door, folks, no way do I want to drive through freezing rain!
Wishing a good, indoor day to all.
It’s 10 heading for 20 and cloudy – but light enough I don’t need the lights on. At the moment. Forecast keeps saying morning clouds/afternoon sun. The weather keeps giving morning clouds/afternoon clouds with snow flurries. And several degrees colder than the forecast. (Which ain’t good considering what temps are forecast to be for the next 2 days.)
I’m tired. Which is silly because I’ve been doing diddly squat. Very little housecleaning – pretty much just keeping up with food prep/cleanup and litterboxes – which at the moment is my only exercise. (I wish my treadmill hadn’t bit the dust.) And I’m cold. Which the lack of exercise isn’t helping. This house was not designed for warmth in winter. I guess the builder put his faith in the central heating/forced air system for that since the weather we’re having right now was normal for February when this house was built (1965). And my sinuses are garbaged up. But at least my hands have remained functional (surprising, I know) and I’m able to do my twitter stuff. Keep on keepin’ on.
The birds are at the feeder and the cats I’ve been feeding aren’t. This is good. Apparently the latter actually do have a home (or homes, there are 5 of them) and the folks therein decided it’s been too cold for the cats to be outside overnight. Which it has. A blessing to count. More coffee then off to twitter. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 26 and snowing in Bellingham. I decided it was too cold for me outside and put party plans on hold yesterday and looking at the 4-6″ of snow on the patio table this morning tells me that was wise. No room for cake! It’s still snowing so looks like I’ll be indoors for awhile.
Best wishes to all.
