Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: March 7th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool, shown here with 3 pages of comments available.

  1. Good Saturday morning, Meese! It’s sunny and blue-skied, but the current temp. in Ashburn is only 45 F., going up to 58 F.

    Yesterday, which began cloudy and gray, transformed itself into sunshine, blue skies, and warmth. The temp. actually rose to 70 F! Was busy all day receiving good wishes from friends and family, along with birthday presents in the form of flowers, cake, British Rose toiletries, and an Amazon gift card, which I immediately spent on three Mrs. Pollifax spy thrillers. It was a wonderful day.

    Last night I didn’t take a sleeping pill, hoping for another no-pill sleep, but alas, it didn’t work. Woke up at 3:30 and pretty much feel worn out by now. I have a manicure in one hour, but I don’t think I’ll get a whole lot done today.

    I really will have to tidy this place, however, because Younger Son and family are coming to tea tomorrow. I spoke to DIL yesterday on the phone. She said how lovely and quiet the house was without Mr. First Grader, who is now attending full-day regular school. He loves being back!

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond, and cursing the Bladder Goddess for ruling every hour of my life.

  2. It’s 52 heading for 65 and raining. Not very hard but apparently steadily since about midnight. The cold/cooler weather is moving in today instead of tomorrow. I thought my next evening fire would be tomorrow but if it doesn’t get above 65, it’ll be tonight. Which will be nice. The fire warms all of me while the foot heater I’ve use the last few nights of no evening fire pretty much cooks my feet and leaves my hands and knees (the other two Raynaud’s “points”) still cold. And draws electricity that I’m not making at the same time. (I can’t figure out how much. I don’t have the paperwork that came with the heater & online search has given me range from a very good 45 watts to a very bad 1200 watts.) We got 3.8 KWHs yesterday, 139.7 for the m-t-d.

    Deplorables will always vote Genocidal Q Party. They see any loss to themselves as a temporary and patriotic sacrifice to the greater good of killing BIPOC. That’s an unfortunately solid and immovable approx. 40% of white people in America. There’s another manipulatable as putty 30% white people who believe the good stuff is actually coming from the Rs and don’t believe the Rs are killing people. They are reachable. IF we ever break up the RW propaganda machine. They’re racist and always will be. The kind of racists who want BIPOC to be OK, surviving and even thriving – but not in their neighborhood. And I really don’t know what to say about that. It’s weird. They might even be reachable enough without the propaganda machine reinforcing the lies to change that part as well. I just don’t know. But I do know we need right at 40% white votes to add to 90% Black and 70%, well, r-t-o keeps saying Brown meaning Latinx but that 70% needs to include Native, Asian-Americans, and just about everybody else in the IPOC part of BIPOC. And I equally know we are not going to get a majority of white votes unless/until we break up that RW propaganda machine. And then it will be close. Meanwhile, I also know if Biden-Harris keep doing what they’ve been doing they’ll get the 90% Black and possibly not only reach the 70% but push it up some – and that would reduce the number/% of white votes needed to be able to continue doing it.

    Rainy day, need more coffee. At least my hands seem to be OK. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  3. Good morning, 47 and sunny in Bellingham. I stayed up way to late last night watching Escape To The Chateau episodes so I’m sleepier than usual. Watching the creativity and hard work involved in chateau restoration is fun, interesting, and exhausting! It’s a British tv series and I watched on Peacock, but episodes are on HGTV and other channels.

    No new plans for me today. As always, my best wishes to all.
