Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

Good Saturday morning, Meese!
Gods, it’s more like a morning in November than May. Currently in Ashburn we have 50 F. and a cold, steady rain of the utmost dreariness falling. When presented with a choice between chicken cutlets or pork tenderloin for dinner, Dearly Beloved opted for the pork. It’s defrosting even as I type. It’s so wintry outside I might even serve applesauce with the pork.
Had a hilarious evening with the three sisters down the road. Dearly dropped me off at their house since my left eye is still fuzzy and it was raining so hard I was afraid I’d have an accident. Once inside I entered a hugfest—everyone was hugging me, then each other, then me again. I hadn’t seen this family since January 2020. Even the dog tried to get in on it. The girls, of course, are taller, heavier, and older, but as delightful as ever.
First we sat around the long kitchen table and wrote what they called “Rotating Stories,” whereby each writer starts a story, stops at a certain point, and passes it to the next person, and so on. We ended up with quite funny stories. Then we played the Dictionary Game, which the youngest, aged 7, requested. I would chose a word at random from the tattered Merriam-Webster Children’s Dictionary, ask the girl to spell it, and if she did so correctly, reward her with a chocolate chip. They’re all exceptionally bright (Mom is a pediatrician, Dad runs his own, apparently very lucrative, computer business out of his home office*), so they did very well.
At one point the 7-year-old suggested we watch a movie. “I think,” replied the 10-year-old loftily, “that we can manage to entertain ourselves this evening without turning on the TV.”
They did eventually turn on the TV so they could show me their “Covid Slide Show,” which they created to keep themselves from going crazy with boredom during quarantine. They flashed up pictures and descriptions of about 30 different breeds of dogs. It was quite entertaining.
OK, that’s enough from me. Have to get ready to go to exercise and then catch up on my sleep before my 2:30 meeting. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

According to his youngest child, Dad secretly watches “Judge Judy” while sitting in front of his three monitors.
Will no one rid us of this turbulent political party?
Many people are saying that Former Guy will spill the beans on McTurtle if he doesn’t march to Former Guy’s drummer. McTurtle’s wife Elaine Chao’s father is a shipping magnate. It is rumored that Chao, in her capacity as Labor Dept. Secretary, prevented her father’s ships from being searched. Customs therefore didn’t find the cocaine hidden there.
Of course this may be merely CT but there is nothing I wouldn’t put past the Rethugs.
Huge, loud thunderstorms last night. Looks sunny & clear now. Got no plans for the day, but I’ll think of something.
It’s 52 and heading for 70. Cloudy at the moment (damp with a chilly wind too) but it’s supposed to get sunny starting later this morning. That would be nice. We had a fine day yesterday. Generated 20.7 KWHs and brought the m-t-d to 347 – if we could do that again these last 3 days we actually could reach 400. IF.
Lousy night’s sleep that I can’t even blame on the sinusitis (mostly). Just woke up after a couple of hours and couldn’t get back to sleep until just before dawn. At the point I was about to give up and get up. Figures. But I did get a little more sleep. Fuzzy brain and dropping things. I started to pour my oatmeal into my coffee mug instead of the bowl. sigh. Fortunately there was only milk in the mug and it didn’t mess with the taste any. I did pour it in the bowl, wash the mug, get more milk for my coffee. But still. Still no word from or about Jill. Aji’s in so much pain it’s taking almost all her energy to focus on getting her daily blog and sales-related twitter posts out. Imaging folks freaked her out with their talk of immediate need for MRIs (yes, multiples) but have pretty much left her hanging as far as actually setting the appointments for them. Supposedly she would/could have had the first yesterday but they haven’t responded to her multiple attempts to contact them. So, 3-day weekend, she’s hanging in suspense until late next week at the earliest. Bastids. Everybody else is pretty much the same as they were yesterday.
It’s gonna feel totally weird to have someone not just in the house but staying with me – which hasn’t happened in over 2 years – but I am so looking forward to it. Just need to get a haircut so he’ll recognize me and finish cleaning up that bedroom. I’ve got a week yet. I can do this, right? ????????
Anybody who trusts the Rs is nuts. Our leadership is not nuts. Ergo our leadership is going through the motions so we can show that we did and the Rs can’t claim we ran roughshod over them. And have their real plans, for whatever and however much can be done without a single R vote, waiting in the wings. Waste of time of course, to have to bring stuff up to fail because the Rs vote against whatever they agreed to before the vote. But expected. sigh.
Cats are sleeping off breakfast. Wish I could. More coffee, off to twitter, & also to read the post on Biden’s speech. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 48 and sunny in Bellingham. I finished a simple sewing project yesterday and then a nap happened. I’ll try to buy a few begonias today and see if I can get them planted. But first I have to wake up and find some coffee. Best wishes to all.
