Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 28 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 41. Mostly cloudy skies are in the forecast.
Omicron. Lovely! Dow drops 900+ points on news of a new variant that may be vaccine resistant. The supposed Party of Fiscal Conservatives, by their policies regarding virus spread mitigation and vaccination, is supporting permanent rolling mutations of a deadly virus that will strangle the nascent economic recovery in the cradle – they are literally killing the country and themselves to be able to blame everything on Joe Biden to “own the libs.” Bastids.
I was glad to see that donations poured in for Kevin Strickland, the man incarcerated for 43 years in Missouri for a crime he did not commit – Black lives being ruined did not matter to prosecutors at the time. When I read the story a few days ago, I was horrified at how little it took to convict a man for murder. You have the same hairstyle and similar features as a guy who committed the crime – close enough! It is just a pesky detail that your fingerprints were never found anywhere at the crime scene or on the murder weapon. The eyewitness had already recanted her testimony and the current Jackson County prosecutor wanted the exoneration but it was being fought by the deadenders running the state. The attorney general who is running for US Senate wanted to keep the innocent man behind bars because nothing says “I am for Missouri white folks” like treating Black people badly. Bastids.
I am avoiding the projects I know I need to do because it exhausts me to think about them. I need to find some inspiration other than “it has to be done” – I really need a hobby that gets me out of my head for periods of time so I can refresh my outlook. With winter coming, the options are more limited; maybe Solstice will bring some personal illumination with the returning light.
See all y’all later!
Good Saturday morning, Meese! It’s 32 F. and windy outside in Ashburn this November day, going up to 45 F. later. Right now the sky is cloudy. Yesterday the wind was so brutal I decided against taking Monty for an afternoon walkies and even against going to the gym. It’s just too awful outside.
Need to get everything done this morning because this afternoon I’ll probably crash after a so-so night. I’m so tired of the news. The WaPo published a loving article this morning about non-college-educated white women and how much they love Glenn Dunkin’, even though he lied. He campaigned against Critical Race Theory, which is not taught in K-12 and even if it were, no child would die from it. Children do die from parents too stupid to get them vaccinated and from leaving loaded guns around the house for anyone to pick up and shoot. There are times I really wish I lived on an island, but no, that would be too “Lord of the Flies.”
Will there ever be a vaccine for stupidity? Or better still, a truth vaccine that will inoculate white people against white supremacy?
OK, time for a breakfast of grapefruit and granola. Was going to make “Morning After Cranberry Muffins,” but I just don’t feel up to it.
Wishing a nice, peaceful Saturday to all at the Pond.
Saturday Meese. 33 here in Kingston, and thankfully we didn’t get snow last night.
I cannot begin to believe the stoopid
Good morning! Going to a movie this evening. Sing 2 is an animated movie — but Bono voices one of the characters, an aging rock star who has been hiding from the world. So obviously I want to see it. Right now I’m eating breakfast & watching the news. Have a great day, y’all!
Puerto Rico
It’s 47 going to mid 60s and sunny at the moment. Yesterday we generated 6.3 KWHs & the 155.48 m-t-d is still on track for 180. So that’s good. Lousy sleep which is not so good. Feeling fuzzy which I’m not particularly fond of. Working around the Ca issue – trying a tsp of cider vinegar 20 minutes before taking it – until it’s safe to go to the store and get a different formulation. Monday I figure will be the soonest when people will be doing their shopping cyberly instead of in person. I hope.
Lisa’s still recovering and Jill’s still planning. Thankfully this is not my father’s army and her son is calling her almost daily for at least a few minutes. Aji’s been to busy or tired or in too much pain (or all 3) to do the daily NDN Silver threads much less the “shopping” threads she’d hoped to do in addition. Don’t know about anybody else. So Holding the Good Thoughts.
Off to twitter and my twitter chores. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 46 and raining in Bellingham. I rested the day away yesterday so today may be a busy day of laundry and desk work. I’m off to a slow start though, lingering with coffee, music, and solitaire. Best wishes to all.
