Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 23 degrees in Madison WI with an expected daytime high of 37. Partly cloudy skies are in the forecast.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
RIP Archbishop Desmond Tutu
Sunday Meese. 35 going up to 42 here in Kingston NY.
Deeply saddened by the passing of Archbishop Desmond Tutu – he gave so much to the world in his 90 years here.
Puerto Rico
Ugh, it is warm again/still. 65 this morning heading to the 80s. The Christmas shirt I was planning on wearing to church is long sleeved….. Saw Sing 2 again last night, loved it more. Watching the news, and my heart is broken over Desmond Tutu’s death.
Black Music Sunday
Happy Boxing Day for those who celebrate it. Also Christmas Dinner Leftovers Day. Or for me eating the Christmas dinner family brought to me yesterday – at 9:30 pm – heh. (After they left I ate the pie, put up the rest, then went to bed.) We got 6.1 KWHs yesterday and start the last Sunday in December at 133. It’s warm (52 heading for mid 70s) but a bit overcast. If it clears we could get to 139 today. If not, then not.
Heard from my younger son and one of my sisters yesterday but every time I started to call my older son I got interrupted. I bet the one call that I heard but couldn’t get was him – and the same interruption thing happened to him trying to call me. If he’s not here soon (to get the Camry and go to gurdwara) I’ll call him for a “belated” Christmas chat.
Day after Christmas or not, it’s still Sunday – so housechores and listen to the music in Dee’s diary while I do them. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 16, a cold wind blowing and more snow on the way. We don’t need to go anywhere, so we’ll stay put until the ice on the roads melts. Feeling grateful to be warm and comfortable. Best wishes to all.
Good morning, meeses! Monday that feels like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ …
It is 34 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 41. Mostly cloudy skies. We had some snow overnight – I can’t tell how much, probably a couple of inches. I have one errand to run but it can wait until late morning when (I hope) the streets are clear and the bad drivers are at their destinations.
So the Q-Squad of Republican Congresspeople are planning to find crazy-ass people to primary any Republican incumbent who does not pledge fealty to the Big Lie and the #RepublicanDeathCult. Normally, I would say “please proceed” but a lot of those people will win the primary and then go on to win the general election because they are in districts that will never in a million years vote for a Democrat. And even if they were tempted, those districts very often attract Democratic challengers who are the left-of-the-left which makes them not even slightly attractive. A Q-Caucus with enough power will elect a Speaker Gym Jordan :::shudder:::. I hope something happens between now and November 2022 that knocks some sense into people. Or that Democrats pull their heads out of their asses and fight gerrymandering fire with their own gerrymandering fire. Some deep blue states could gerrymander districts in a way that Republicans will lose dozens of seats. But they won’t because they don’t realize the existential threat a Republican Q-Congress would be – no adults to pass pandemic relief, no adults to increase the debt limit, no adults to protect Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid and the ACA. Holey Mackeral!
I had better get my nose back to the grindstone. Some clients will be closed today to give their employees a nice 4 day weekend but the rest of them will be looking for projects that I promised for “after the holidays.” That is now! Add to that the looming End Of Gregorian-Calendar Year and I will be busier than I want to be this week.
See all y’all later!
Monday Meese. 29 going up to 32 here in Kingston with snow showers on the way this afternoon. Hopefully not much of it.

Isn’t the MSM loathsome! I call them a pack of howling pariah dogs. Not one mention on Brennan’s part of Rethuglican obstructionism and their lack of patriotism and bipartisanship in passing BBB.
Thanks for the transcript, Dee! I need to email you, now that it’s after the holidays, about the Kamala defense team.
Saw your mail to the DKHive!

Uh-oh!
What the hell are they thinking, letting a cruise ship dock!!??
Good morning. Warm enough for sandals and short sleeves, I think the weather guy said they’re expecting record warm. Took a walk yesterday, just walking, no running. Might walk after work today. Brought my New Year’s soup (or is it stew? What is the difference?) for lunch.
Good morning, Moosekind! This Monday it’s 39 F. outside, with a gray sky brooding like an egg-full hen over us. Both the weather widget on my Mac and the app on my phone keep desperately predicting rain, but it hasn’t materialized yet.
We spent yesterday preparing for our outing, enjoying our outing, or recovering from our outing. We took our friend B. to a slap-up birthday lunch at L’Auberge Chez Francois in Great Falls. Her 88th birthday is actually today but the restaurant is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Although the three of us are double-vaxxed and boostered, I was pleased to notice that the tables were widely spaced, that the staff wore masks throughout our visit, and that the other guests entered the dining room masked, only removing their masks when about to drink or eat.
It was a lovely afternoon, sunny, cloudless, and 60 F. After taking her home we were too stuffed to move. Some friends are coming to her house today with a birthday cake for a little celebration. I’m glad. She’s been a widow since 2009 and although she loves her large, beautiful house, she is alone much of the time.
Today will be spent tidying up this place. It’s a wreck!
Oh, I forgot to mention the temps. It’s 39 F. now, on its way up to 45 F. Now I’m off to eat porridge to unclog my screeching arteries!
P. P. S. Forgot to say Sarah Weddington died. What a shame! We owe her more than we can ever express.
RE: Sarah Weddington
I had not known about her – I was not reproductive rights “woke” until I read Backlash by Susan Faludi. Sad that abortion rights for American women will both start and end in court challenges in Texas. :(
It’s 59 going to mid 60s today. Sunny at the moment. I hope that holds. Yesterday we generated 7 KWHs for the 1st (& possibly only) time in this December. Brought the m-t-d to 140 so we’ll be over 150 with 2 decent days of sun.
My hands are better. My sleep isn’t. As far as I know everybody’s OK – at least hanging-in-there OK. Stuff in my yard is growing. I wish it weren’t. Next Monday it’s supposed to be 14 at dawn. sigh. Nothing I can do about that either.
Twitter stuff to do. Maybe later go get milk. I’m not quite out but it’s supposed to rain tomorrow. We’ll see. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 6 degrees and light snow. My upstairs windows are iced over and icicles are formed on the eaves so it’s a very wintery morning. We will just stay home today because the roads are to icy to safely drive anywhere. Fortunately we don’t have frozen pipes to deal with, but we do need to shovel snowy sidewalks and clear the snow from the front porch. Best wishes to all.
Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 21 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 32. Snow is in the forecast, a predicted 2-4 inches beginning at 11am. I have one errand to run and I should be able to get it done before the snow flies. Sunday night’s snow is gone from roads and sidewalks and large swatches of grassy areas.
I am glad the CDC changed their quarantine period from 10 days to 5 days. The 10 days, especially in the NFL, seemed more like punishment than science – if you are not showing active symptoms and not testing positive after 5 days, you are probably safe to be around. I was at a large (mainly masked) event last weekend and was worrying for the next 5 days, alert for symptoms. We have to give our vaccines a chance to protect us, masking as common sense but the vaccine as the backstop. I like wearing my mask outside this time of year as it keeps the bitter cold off my face – I do wish my glasses did not fog up, though.
The news is easy to scan these days because it is filling up with 2021 retrospectives. No thank you! I hate the format, the topic and the entire premise that I would want to look at a minute by minute replay of things that can’t be changed. I also don’t like the 2022 prognostications,so there!
The present beckons – I am still slogging through end-of-year accounting tasks. I am nearly done with one project and then I have one largish project to finish.
See all y’all later!
Tuesday Meese. 30 degrees and foggy here in Kingston NY. We had sleet all night. It’s going up to 49 so that should melt away the ice and slush.

Woke up early so I got my walk in. Warm enough for shorts, cold front coming this weekend, maybe even a freeze. Working at home today. BBC America has a Dr. Who marathon, yay!
It’s 63 heading for 69 and raining. Dark enough the lights are on and the PV system isn’t. Hopefully it will clear off by afternoon. Yesterday we generated just over 5 KWHs and the m-t-d is at 145.5 – with 4 days left in December we should make it over 150, no problem.
I didn’t get milk yesterday so I’ll definitely need to get it today since the last of what I had just went into cooking my oatmeal. I got 7 hours of sleep in two 3-1/2 chunks separated by an hour of sinusitis flare. The rain allowed me to “sleep in” but I’m groggy.
I don’t know how the people I care about are doing, hopefully holding steady if not OK. It’s the 5th year anniversary of Lin’s (Linda, patriotdailynewsclearinghouse) death so I know OK isn’t possible in some cases. Aji’s got 3 other “anniversaries” today as well.
The young tabby I’ve been feeding on the carport seems to have pretty much settled in to be my outdoor cat. At least until after the holidays if his “real” people have been gone and are coming back. Prior to Xmas he was here for breakfast. Now he’s here for lunch, dinner, and midday snacks as well. My indoor cats managed to get some of the outdoor cat food (Purina One) which gave somebody diarrhea. That’s why I switched them to Taste of the Wild in the first place.
Off to twitter and my twitter chores. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good Tuesday morning, Meese! It’s 43 F. degrees here, going up to 56 F. later. It was cloudy this morning, as depressing as yesterday’s sky, but the clouds are trying to dissipate so that sunlight can break through. We’ll see.
A friend is picking us up in one hour for lunch. OMG! I shall confine myself to half a salad. Yesterday, after all that rich food on Sunday, we lay around like snakes emerging from hibernation on the first sunny day in spring. Thank Goddess we can’t afford to go that restaurant very often. (I save up all year for it.)
Dee, last time I checked, only you had responded to my call to begin reactivating the DKHive, per your original post. I’ll start researching one part of Kamala’s portfolio, voting rights. I hope others will contribute diaries as time goes on.
Princesspat, I’m reading your posts with fascination. You don’t usually get that much snow, do you? Yikes!
Bfitz, I hope your sinusitis and your poor hands are better today. I keep wishing I could send you our sunshine.
Better get moving, Meese, I have less than an hour to paint my battered visage and stuff myself into some decent clothes. I might even have to assume a certain undergarment that I have foregone during quarantine and ever after. Wishing a nice, peaceful day to all at the Pond.
Wednesday Meese. 33 and cloudy here in Kingston going up to 39.
This tribute to Harry Reid from Barack Obama was very touching.
Thank you for posting that. I was looking for it.
Here is Nancy Pelosi’s, Harry Reid’s legislative partner.
