Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. Good morning, 25 and sunny with just a few patches of snow remaining. My BCH leg and my creaky knees seem better today so I’m hoping to do a few errands. I need to go to the drugstore and I want to wander around the fabric store. I only need a few basic supplies (zippers, thread and pins) but I’m hoping for some creative inspiration.
Jan, I share your concerns for our children’s futures…….
Best wishes to all.
Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 10 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 28. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
The press needs to work in their misleading headlines again: the headline “62% of voters believe that Putin would not have invaded Ukraine if Trump were president” ignores that the reason he would not have invaded is because the United States would have been an ally in destroying the democracy in Ukraine. The bitter nasty damaged man in the White House would have exacted his revenge on Zelensky by cutting off aid and supporting “regime change” to put a Putin puppet in place. Biden’s approval rating keeps dropping because the fallout from the no-win solutions to the terrible messes tRump left him keeps splattering back on him. COVID, Afghanistan, now the menace of Putin – Aegean stables. I hope enough voters realize that before the time comes to vote this fall – I do not want to even think about the hell a Kevin McCarthy led House will unleash on our country.
I have to get back to my quiet Saturday morning work projects. There are three days left in this short month and I need a plan in place for my busy March. Lists are my friend.
See all y’all later!
Saturday Meese. 10 degrees here in Kingston. Am bleary-eyed from staying up late fighting with “progressives” spouting Putin propaganda. Meanwhile this is the Republikkkan Party
Puerto Rico
Good gray Saturday morning, Meese! ‘Tis ugly outside and very cold, 32 F. on its way up to 46 F. It will be bone-dry today, which is okay because we’re 3/4 of an inch over for the year to date in rainfall.
Yesterday was so busy that it offered a useful lesson: our days of traveling overseas are finito. We were on the go from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., hotfooting it to the veterinarian, then the Genius Bar at Apple, then grabbing hasty tacos at Anita’s, followed by a visit to Target, then Costco (because my hearing aids wouldn’t sync with the new phone until the audiologist fixed it), then back to the vet’s to pick up Monty, who objected vociferously to his intrusive treatment, then, blessedly, back here again. After I picked up dinner and we consumed it, I fell asleep in the green chair and that was that.
Today I only have to finish the article, at least the first part of it, get a pedicure, and after that rest before going to the gym. I haven’t been to the gym, for one reason or another, since Tuesday. Time to get back into it.
Watching with drawn breath as the Ukrainians gallantly defend their homeland. Putie is not having it all his own way by any means. His criminal invasion of Ukraine is having the opposite effect from what he intended: Europe and the rest of the international community are uniting against him and he’s become the pariah of the world, at least where money is concerned.
Hoping for a nice, quiet day and wishing the same to all at the Pond.
There is a rising crescendo of countries demanding that FIFA ban Russia from the World Cup. Poland has said that they will not play Russian and will take the loss. They should not have to be put in that position. There should be no Russian athletes and no Russian spectators and no Russian government officials.
Good morning. It froze again last night, I’m cuddled on the couch in sweats & warm slippers. I don’t know how y’all who live where it does this for months at a time do it. Waiting for the weather report to tell me if I can uncover my plants or is it going to freeze yet again. Today’s plan: get groceries, and if there’s a break in the rain, go for a walk.
It’s 30 heading for 42 and sunny at the moment. It’s supposed to cloud up later in the day. Why I don’t know as there’s no rain in the forecast until next weekend. Ice lets more light through than snow does. Yesterday we generated 4.7 KWHs and the m-t-d is 151 – it’s possible to reach 180 by the end of the month. We shall see what we shall see.
The shingles have dialed back enough the symptoms are no longer overriding the sinusitis and issues with my hands. Joy, joy. (Which isn’t to say the symptoms are gone. They aren’t. But the rash area is shrinking and the muscle aches are pretty much confined to my right thigh at this point.) I wasn’t able to reach the diagnostic clinic yesterday to cancel the bone density scan. I’ve left a voice mail and will try again Monday. Don’t tell me you’ll charge me anyway as a “no-show” if I don’t cancel more than 24 hours out and then not be accessible for canceling. I’ll pay a lawyer before I’ll pay you on that crap.
Jill’s stalker is escalating the nastiness. And she’s got to be getting the information from Jill’s husband while he pretends he’s got nothing to do with it. There’s information she simply could not have if she didn’t get it from him. Also stalker reported Jill to Animal Control for too many dogs (which of course she has – between her own, her son’s, and the remaining living dogs her husband dumped on her, she’s way over the limit) – and told them that she’d be violent. Trying to set up a “murder by cop” – which might have worked if Jill weren’t white. The psychiatrist associated with the DV shelter in Roswell is worried about Jill. Among others.
Everybody else is same ol’ same ol’ – which isn’t good. In pain, severe medical issues, and always not enough money. But they’re alive and managing to the best of their ability.
I truly wish the RW propaganda machine would quit saying “Americans” when they mean “Republicans”. 60% Republicans believe Russia wouldn’t have attacked Ukraine if twitler were in office. That’s about 25% Americans – or twitler’s fascist base.
Things are terrible. And will get worse before they get better. All we can do is pray, support on social media, and maybe send some money to relief groups if we have it. It sux. But since we have dishes and floors, they have to be washed and swept, no matter what’s going on elsewhere. Off to twitter. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good morning, 30 and light clouds. I didn’t do the errands I wanted to do yesterday, so today I’ll choose just one and RonK will drive so I won’t have to worry re getting to tired and then driving safely home. I’m restless but know I need to stay quiet for a while longer. So where will I go? It’s a dilemma, but I’m grateful to have choices to ponder. Best wishes to all.
