Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: March 13th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good Saturday morning, Meese1 It was partly cloudy and still dark when I took Monty out to the courtyard shortly after six. The birds were shouting and the wind was blowing. Monty stayed out just long enough to do No. 1, then scuttled back to the building. He knew breakfast was waiting. Of course I couldn’t see the full moon last night as it was completely cloudy, but that’s par for the course. First-world problem!

It’s clearing right now (nearly 8 a.m.), and we have 59 F. in Ashburn, going up to 79 F.

Well, I finally got the taxes done amid many curses, and filed both federal and state electronically. Both were accepted by 5 p.m. Friday. I now need to print out the returns and put them into a folder.

I did manage to wash and dry Monty’s office bed and blanket, so that was at least one other thing I did yesterday. Although I didn’t use my feet much, the right one decided to start being painful. That’s just what I needed to make my day perfect! Today will consist of lots of laundry and tidying. Also, the Shred Truck is coming from 9 to 12 this morning, so it would be a good idea to take some excess papers there.

Just found out about a woman in Danville, Virginia, who wants to give a million books away to children. I have some very good books that my grandchildren have outgrown. I’d like to send them off. She also reads novels with some 60-odd women inmates of the Danville Jail. I think this is a marvelous idea, and will look for some to send her.

The laptop I have on my Amazon list has gone down 5 whole cents since I put it on the list! LOL. I have to decide which software I want to use on it. I hear the young are scorning paying a fortune for software and are turning to Google Docs instead.

I really must get to the gym today, haven’t been all week and it’s definitely showing on the scales.

Wishing a good day to all at the Pond, and wishing that Putie would stop the war on Ukraine.

    • Don’t go to Google Docs! Remember this about free software – you get what you pay for.

    • I tried to get to my blogging browser to answer your questions about my trip but I got sidetracked so I will reply here:

You must have enjoyed your time away in a warm climate! Did you find a nice garden apartment to live in when you move? Are there allergies in Arizona? One thing you won’t have to put up with is bloody old daylight saving.

I did enjoy my time away in a warm climate! I am looking at the cold snowy cloudy day and I am anxious to get out of here. By the way, one does not want a garden apartment in Arizona because of the scorpions and rattlesnakes! We will be on a nice second floor perch with mountain views and will walk down the stairs with the dog. I might need a trundle of some sort – she is 25 pounds and weighted a bit oddly – since she is not as athletic as she once was and has trouble with stairs sometimes. I believe that the reason a lot of people move to Arizona is because the air is easier to breathe; people with respiratory ailments thrive in the dry air. I don’t know if that means there are no pollens, I would think there have to be some sort of pollens wherever there are plants. I will find out and let you know.

  2. Saturday Meese. 51 going up to 60 and raining here in Kingston – which puts an end to my garden clean-up plans for the day.

    Puerto Rico

  3. Good morning. Weirdly cold here, but I’ll take it. Going to be gorgeous this afternoon, mid-70s but dry & gusty winds so high pollen. Cedar pollen is normally done by February, yesterday it was in the “high” category. Sigh.

  4. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

It is 34 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 48. It is snowing lightly – that will turn to rain and then probably freeze when we get down to 28 overnight.

I can’t say that I am sorry that Rep. Don Young of Alaska is “leaving” the House. He was a nasty piece of work. The fact that the state is too small to have more than one representative but has two freaking Senators is emblematic of what is wrong with Congress. That those Senators from sparsely populated states can be part of a block on legislation with only 41 votes is a tragedy. Speaker Pelosi has a bigger margin at least until June when there is a special election in a vacant Republican seat in California. I wonder if there are enough people sick of Republican rule to put a Democrat or a left leaning Independent in the Alaska seat – I think their governor is an Independent.

Well, I need to get back to work. I have stacks of things to do before I run out of steam. My sleep is quite a bit off – I must be sleeping some because I sense that I have awakened but it is not fitting any familiar patterns. In any event, it is making me sleepy.

    See all y’all later!

  5. It’s mid 40s heading for mid 60s and sunny. Yesterday it was pretty much heavy mist and clouds most of the day so we only generated 2.45 KWHs and the m-t-d of 191 is way off track. We’ll see what today brings.

I had a sinusitis flare last night (wish I could move to Arizona) but slept until 8 to more or less make up for it. That’s why I’m so late online. And started with posting twitter stuff instead of doing my own check in. Shingles is better – but it’s just so very slow getting rid of them entirely. Hands are about the same. Problems keyboarding but so far OK with the mouse.

Apparently Ukraine’s still holding on. And finally folks who aren’t in immediate danger should Ukraine fall are realizing that Putin ain’t gonna stop with Ukraine. Lithuania and Poland are well aware – as they should be since it’s a toss up as to which of them would be hit next. Apparently my friends/folks I worry about personally are also holding on. Prayers and sometimes a little cash are what I can do. So that’s what I do.

    Back to twitter. And need to put up the laundry so I’m not bumping the racks every time I shove my chair back. LOL. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
