Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: April 3rd

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good Friday morning, Moosekind! I wish I could stop my addiction to reading the news because it’s already 10:15, and I’m still not washed and brushed for the day. And this afternoon is going to be busy!

Right now it’s a lovely April morning in Ashburnikins, with a current temp of 56 F. “They” say it will rain later on, but we all know how accurate “they” are.

Monty is driving me nuts, wanting to go out every five minutes. Dearly Beloved is having a nap, having had a rotten night. I’ve far too much to do to worry about Monty, though.

This afternoon between 1 and 3 I have to attend a photography session of the authors here. Hope I can squeeze myself into the black dress I plan to wear. I ordered two dresses for larger women, but they’re apparently coming by camel caravan from Ulan Bator. Pity. Then at 5 o’clock I’m going to the Blue Sky restaurant here for the UU dinner. Although I’m not a Unitarian myself, they’re very pagan-friendly and I like all the people here who are UU’s. They’re Democrats, naturally.

This weekend I have a pile of essays to read. I’m so proud of my group and the number of people who have written sonnets! I’ve even got a photographer lined up for our Shakespeare’s birthday party next week. Of course his birthday isn’t until April 23, but we don’t meet on the 23rd, we meet on the 14th.

Well, that’s all from me this morning. I will refrain from commenting on what they found in Bucha because I am so sickened by it. I wish, wish, wish that Ukraine could win SOON so all this will stop. They will have to rebuild their beautiful, peaceful country from scratch. I hope Sekhmet the Blood Drinker will smite Putie. Sooner would be better than later.

Goddess bless all at the Moose Pond.

  2. Good morning, 48 and partly cloudy outside my window today. I was in the garden yesterday and managed to transplant the hellebores to a new spot under a large rhododendron, but than I was stuck…..took me awhile to find a way to get upright again! I’ve been moaning about my creaky joints for years now, but it’s still a surprise when I experience the limitations. I’m going to stay quiet this morning so I can enjoy lunch with Emma and Ava this afternoon. Best wishes to all.

  3. Saturday Meese. 43 going up to 54 and rain all day here in Kingston.

I despair for folks in Puerto Rico.

  4. This gave me joy.
    Beautiful.

    I keep replaying this

  5. Good Saturday morning, Meese. It’s clearing up in Ashburn after a gloomy start. We did get some rain about 10 p.m. last night, I was quite surprised. I’m discounting this afternoon’s possibility of showers because it’s so often untrue. Right now it’s 44 F., trying to creep up to 55 F. later.

The UU dinner last night was so much fun! Unitarians are so very agreeable to be around, well-educated, friendly, and so forth. I sat next to a woman who has four children, two of them living abroad. Neither the daughter in Berlin nor the daughter in Portugal wants to return to the USA, ever. They get free health care in Europe. The daughter who lives in Portugal is a gig worker, a musician. Apparently people are moving to Portugal because of the wonderful climate, low cost of living, and peaceful atmosphere. That said, Portuguese can’t be the easiest language to learn—ever tried it? Lawks.

Monty is being a good boy. He didn’t even bark at me when I came home last night. The Larger Lady dresses I ordered arrived from Mongolia or wherever. The size Small almost fits, although my bosom will have to lose a few pounds. The size Medium is so large—and there is no way to return it—that I’ll have to give it to Darling Niece to sell on eBay.

Other than that, I will just potter about today. I really should get a manicure, my nails are starting to split again. The horse hoof cream has done wonders, but it can’t work miracles. Listen to me, rattling on about this stuff when the world is in such a mess! I wish I could help Ukraine, but I don’t see how.

Wishing a nice, quiet Saturday to all at the Pond.

  6. I was actually so cold last night that not only did I pull the quilt on, I actually got up and turned on the heat. In Texas, in April. It’s 44 degrees this morning. Crazy. Watching the news, eating breakfast. Local news, even with a terrible traffic crash and a shooting, is a relief compared to Ukraine. Today: pick up groceries, maybe some cooking, maybe a walk.

  7. It’s 37 and sunny – yesterday said we’d get into the 70s, today’s says not quite. It did not clear off but it lightened up enough yesterday I could turn off the lights and we generated 7.5 KWHs which is a least more than I use in a day on average. The m-t-d is 119 so has some catching up to do to get back on track. And it might do a little of that today.

I haven’t checked in with anybody yet today. As of last night nothing much had changed from over the last few days. I guess including with me. Some things are better, others are not. On balance about the same level of OK-ness. One of the better things was sleep last night. I got almost 8 hours. Yay! Meanwhile, Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody.

    Off to twitter. Bright the Day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  8. Good morning, 43 and mostly cloudy. I was awake in the night so today is going to be a sleepy day. I enjoyed lunch at the bookstore cafe with my grand girls. So many memories of being there with them, from babies is strollers to the young women they are now. They are worried about the war in Ukraine so our conversation did get a bit heavy at times but that’s reality. They get most of their news from watching tick-tock videos and it shows my age that I am relieved they are basically well informed.

I need to wrap up the outdoor garden cleanup today and get started on plans for a rain or shine Easter Brunch. I’ll keep the menu the same regardless, but I’ll need to ne flexible re the weather. If it’s just chilly we’ll be ok outdoors, but rain is always a possibility. Best wishes to all.
