Good morning. Started my day with a “Texas secede” diary at the orange place. Didn’t trust myself to comment with words, I posted a picture of Ann Richards. Happy Thursday. Working in the office. It’s ten million degrees, the rain chances we had are going away, my tire light came on……. Ugh. Got to listen to some happy music.

I couldn’t find it and probably just as well. Since I can’t comment – even with a picture of Ann Richards – all it would do is upset me. LW is just like RW – they can’t win an honest election so they want to/try to get rid of the folks who aren’t going to vote for them. I think that’s called voter suppression.

Puerto Rico
It’s 61 heading for 93 – it was only supposed to get down to 60 by dawn but it got down to 53 so it’ll be another hour or so before I need to close up the house. Sunny. Yesterday we generated 21.3 KWHs – the highest single day for the month (and probably this year) – and the m-t-d hit 505.73! We’re ahead of 2021! Yay!
I haven’t a clue what – and how much – it’s going to take to fix it but the top course of siding of my sun porch (right under the windows) fell off and broke yesterday. Looks to be water damage to the wood that it was attached to. Hindsight is 20-20 and all that – but I really should have told the guy who finished building the sunporch to tear down what the guy who started building the sunporch had done and start over. My son’s coming to look at it sometime today. I really need this house to hold together decently as long as I’m alive (and capable of living alone which hopefully will be as long as I’m alive). Lousy timing and all that. With the Market being as volatile as it’s been I do not want to touch my TIAA at all. We shall see what we shall see.
SCOTUS put more targets on more people’s backs yesterday. The Native community is rightfully very upset. The ruling takes them right back to the days when Native LE has no jurisdiction over a white man committing a crime against a Native on Tribal lands. That’s not just a blow to sovereignty, it’s making Tribal Law Enforcement have less power than a city cop who is legally authorized to arrest anybody who commits a crime in their city no matter who or where they’re from. Hell, city cops can arrest someone who’s got an out-of-state warrant out and hold them until the state in question sends somebody to get them. Tribal LE can’t even do that. Which makes it open season on Natives – the Deplorables in “man camps” building pipelines just love that.
Amelia’s still dealing with depression, flashbacks, exhaustion, and pain. Jill’s doing the same (although thankfully her levels aren’t as bad) plus anxiety – Ronald’s been seen in Roswell again. But at least her mattress is coming today. Fineena’s dogs have managed to figure out the baby locks again and are raiding her refrigerator whenever she goes anywhere.
There’s really not a whole lot of good news anywhere. Sigh. Off to twitter. Maybe I can find some. Maybe the fundraising/boosting I do there can make some. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

Fineena’s dogs are very clever. She’s got some kind of baby lock – doubled – that should keep them out. But the dogs have figured out how to open it anyway. sigh.

It is 75 in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 95. Clear this morning, clouding up and a chance of rain later in the afternoon. June’s expected rainfall is 0 inches, July is when the monsoon starts in earnest – we should get around 4 inches and more days with clouds. Believe it or not, June is the hottest month here (I would have thought July or August) so we are already heading into the “cooler” part of summer.
Today I will celebrate Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson being sworn in as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court and ignore that the Supreme Court is a literal pile of human garbage. Yesterday they broke long standing treaties with Native Americans and today they will likely strip the EPA of the power to regulate emissions. Mitch McChinless was doing a victory lap for blocking President Obama’ SCOTUS nominee and pushing Mrs. Jesse Barrett’s last minute confirmation so that Republicans could ban abortions. May all of the people involved in the destruction of the Supreme Court’s credibility get their just desserts. And may Justice Jackson’s presence on the court start cleansing it of the stench of misogyny and racial hatred that flows off off Alito and Thomas.

Meese peeps! Just a heads up that I will be doing some site cleanup (updates and such) over the long holiday weekend. I will probably shoot for Saturday afternoon (after noon MST) because that is when the site has the least traffic.

Good Thursday morning, Meese! It’s 81 F. on the way up to 91 F. here in Ashbuggy today, with glorious sunshine and bad air quality. Have to make Dearly’s sandwich before I head out to meet a friend I haven’t seen for a very long time—well, Christmas, actually.
I am so excited about Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson! Long may she rule! May diseased camels bite the radical right-wing justices of the Supremely Lousy Court, and may they not be able to sit comfortably for the rest of the summer..
My 3-inch tart pans with the removable bottoms arrived yesterday! Yay! Now I hope to find some American flag toothpicks. Surely now, if ever, is the time to find them.

Good morning, 62 and sunny outside my window today. My sister left yesterday so the house is very quiet this morning. I slept the afternoon away yesterday, went to bed early last night, and still feel weary this morning. But I hope to resume planting the flowers I just stuck in the pots earlier this month.
Our son is finally looking better, and I’m feeling both relieved and grateful. The infectious disease doc is keeping in contact with him and follow up visits and C Scans are scheduled so he should be ok now. Just needs to rest and slowly recover his energy and stamina.
Time for another cup of coffee and to sort out my day. Best wishes to all.

It is 77 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 99. Scattered clouds and a slight chance of rain in the late afternoon. Mostly the storm clouds gather over the mountains to the east and the west and have no rain for us. Next week’s forecast shows a better chance of rain on Tuesday and on Saturday. I am still waiting to witness my first monsoonal downpour – I was out of town for the first one; since then it has only been a drop or two of rain and a light shower for about 10 minutes.
The Supreme Court decided to take up the Let Republican State Legislators Override the Will of Their Voters laws red states are planning to pass in order to steal the 2024 election if their party loses again. I am not sure how we fix a rogue court – FDR threatened to dilute the court when they started striking down his New Deal initiatives and they backed off. The only way to re-legitimize the court is to dilute the votes of the stolen seats – Barack Obama’s (Gorsucks) and Joe Biden’s (Mrs. Jesse Barrett). It won’t happen so we are stuck with a 9 member unelected body overturning settled law and “re-interpreting” Congressional statutes. We really REALLY need to kill the filibuster before it literally kills us.
We have a 3 day weekend ahead of us but many people seem to be taking today off as well. I have some errands to run and I am hoping the traffic is light.

Good morning. June was the hottest on record, beating the 2 years we had terrible droughts – including 2011, when we had over 90 days over 100 degrees. So, yeah. But at least I have Le Tour to distract me over the next 3 weeks. Cute boys in spandex. Today is a time trial in Copenhagen. You’re right, that’s not France. They frequently have the first day or 2 outside France.
It’s 72 heading for 92 and the heat index is sneaking back up towards 100. At least it’s sunny to start the new month. We wrapped up June with 526 KWHs so at least we’re “beating” 2021 on that. Wrapped up the 2nd quarter ahead of 2017, 2020, & 2021 so that’s good too. The meet-or-beat for July is 563 but if we do as well as we did in June, that will be just fine. In fact, that would put us in 4th place for July production for the life of the system.
Lousy sleep and not “braining” very well thus far this morning. The humidity may have something to do with it. I need to close up the house – and yes, turn the A/C back on – as soon as I post this. As far as I know nothing changed yesterday from the day before on how folks were doing. The world’s going to hell and SCOTUS & the ChristoFascists they serve are determined to “pedal to the metal” on getting there. And if Joe – whose last name is Biden, not Stalin – tried to “pack the Court” he’d lose Congress and probably WH in 2024 as well. Even if he could pull it off and get it done while we still nominally have the Senate I doubt our DINOs would confirm the nominations and even if they did I doubt SCOTUS would “seat” them. I don’t have an answer. I know what we should have done and when we should have done it. But we didn’t. I purely do not know how to fight ChristoFascism in our own government once it’s been allowed to get this far. Germany wasn’t able to get rid of Hitler and the Nazi party from within. It took a war with the combined forces of over 20 countries (as much as America likes to pretend we did it by ourselves, we didn’t) including some who were our enemies then and are our enemies now (Russia mostly). And history doesn’t repeat. We have the largest military of pretty much the rest of the world combined – and nukes. So again, I don’t have an answer. Just keep doing what obviously hasn’t been enough and pray. A lot.

Good Friday morning, Moosekind, and happy Canada Day! If I were to go downtown, as I did once with a friend years and years ago, I’d see a handsome Mountie sweating in his red and blue dress suit. But alas, I now live in the middle of nowhere.
Had a wonderful lunch at Panera with my friend yesterday. She fears she will have to give up driving before very long. (She’s 10 years older than I.) We vowed that we must have lunch again, now that things are loosening up a bit. Covid is supposed to get worse in the autumn. We’ll never be free of it, will we?
The news is too depressing to think about so I must concentrate on other things. The current temp. in Ashburn is 85 F., on its way up to 91 F. I took the dog out after breakfast because (1) imaginary thunderstorms are predicted for this afternoon; (2) Dearly doesn’t feel well, so that’s one chore I could save him; and (3) I wanted to tire Monty out. Musta worked, because he’s passed out on the carpet.
I have to go to the Credit Union and the grocery store when Dearly comes back from his doctor visit, so I’d better get busy. I Googled this morning and was assured the average American woman weighs 166 pounds. Surely this can’t be true?

I noticed that the NPR COVID tracker has moved Virginia from yellow to orange (same thing for Arizona). I think that the next spike might not wait for fall. :(
Good morning, 60 and sunny outside my window today. I was still to tired to do much yesterday so I just puttered around watering plants and sorting laundry. I hope today will be more productive.
My sister loved seeing the deer in our garden, but I don’t. A favorite hosta and a full pot of blooming pansies are just munched. I wanted a natural garden, but sharing it with critters is frustrating! Best wishes to all.
My poor friend, with whom I had lunch yesterday, is desperate to have a nice garden. Being British, it’s extremely important to her. Alas, she also has deer so when she tries to plant something, no luck.
She wants to get her garden in good enough shape that she can turn it over to the man who mows the lawn. If he can keep the weeds down, that’ll have to do.

Have been looking at clips on Twitter of various mass entertainment events – seems like nobody in packed crowds are wearing masks – as if COVID is over. :(
Puerto Rico
It’s 74 heading for 92, sunny but humid, and I need to close up as soon as I post this. Yesterday clouds moved in late afternoon. Enough to slow energy production but we still, barely, made 17 KWHs to start the month. So we’re barely on track. Which is good. Especially since my last SWEPCO cycle (mid-month to mid-month) I used more than I generated. I’m hoping we can catch up this month but with the heat we’re looking at, I doubt it.
Brain foggy. sigh. But my son will be coming over today (he was working the last two) to look at the broken siding and try to figure out what we can do that doesn’t cost money. From one day to the next things aren’t really all that bad. It’s only when we look at things in a longer stretch, a few weeks or a couple of months at a time, can we see things are mostly getting worse. But Jill’s managing – and she’s certainly in a better/safe situation than she was a year ago up on the mesa. And Aji’s gotten enough rain they’re actually going to plant their garden for the first time in about 6 years. Hang onto the little things, the little gains, the flowers blooming in little plots and corners. It’s how we can hang on.

Nice to have a 3-day weekend, I don’t have to squeeze all the errands & housework into just the 2.

It is 72 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 90. It is raining now and is expected to rain off and on all day. We do not complain about the rain but we do bemoan the high humidity! It reminds us of why we moved to a dry climate; my knees and legs miss the 10% humidity! I got to see my first monsooonal downpour and it was quite something. Unfortunately, it caused flooding just south of here and we lost power for about two hours until crews could find and resolve the issue. I am not sure why they would put power related equipment in areas that can flood – that seems a bit shortsighted. I hope they have a long term fix planned.
Sad headline in my news aggregator: “As Ohio restricts abortions, 10-year-old girl travels to Indiana for procedure.” In Susan Collins’ America, a 10-year-old rape victim should carry her pregnancy to term. Goddess help us if we care so little about our children – when they are girl children – that we inflict such harm on them. I hope that the 6 “justices” on the Supreme Court that created this monstrosity have a difficult time sleeping. May their children and grandchildren curse their names.
Lots of subpoenas flying these days for information on the fake electors plot and the January 6th coup attempt! The Arizona Senate leader who invited the Cyber Ninjas to paw over Arizona voters’ ballots got a subpoena from the FBI which she is calling a “Freedom of Information Request”. No, this is not a FOIA request, dodobrain, it is a subpoena from the FBI which is investigating your contacts with the coup leader. I wish the newspaper had pointed out her bs.
I have a full platter of projects to work on over the long weekend and I am hoping to get a head start on them so that maybe I can take some time to do something I want to do instead of have to do. I am not sure what that would be – I have not really developed a leisure-time activity yet. I think I need a longer list of non-work things to do besides “sit around with my feet up.” It would help if weren’t nearly impossible to be outside for long periods of time this time of year. Maybe I should see what the fitness center has to offer – perhaps I would enjoy cycling in place?

Good Saturday morning, Meese. Here in Ashburn the sky looks as if someone had dragged a paintbrush drenched in white paint against the blue. The sunlight is tentative; well, no wonder, they’re predicting imaginary rainstorms at 1 p.m. Currently the temperature is 83 F., going up to 88 F. The weather here has an irritating habit of looking dark and gloomy for hours and then moving off to lour upon another community elsewhere. Yesterday I was so convinced it was going to rain any minute (this was at 3 p.m.) that I wore my raincoat to Harris Teeter. The actual rain did not materialize until 6 p.m. We even had graupon. (I think that’s what it’s called.) I will be happy if it rains more today.
Hoping for a long spell of getting things done today. I can see that more and more of my time is going to be devoted to caregiving for Dearly. I have to drive him home from the doctor’s office at the end of the month as they are doing something to his eyes then.
I forgot the shrimp for scampi when I went to the store yesterday, so will have to pop out later today to get it. My poor neighbor down the hall—the husband of my gym buddy—is still in the ICU. That doesn’t give me a good feeling, as it’s been two weeks. She hasn’t texted, so I imagine she’s spending her days at the hospital.
Today is Elder Son’s 52nd birthday. The hospital where he was born, Columbia Hospital for Women, no longer exists. Younger Son is a Virginian. Well, here I am, rattling on into irrelevance. Hope everyone at the Pond has a blissful Saturday.

Good morning, 60 and sunny outside my window today. I’ve puttered around outside enough to get my head back into the garden so today I think I can do some actual planting. I’m not feeling very creative this year and thanks to the deer my plant choices are very limited. Makes me tempted to stick a few fake flowers in the pots and call it good!
