Good morning. I actually slept until 7, a miracle. Got the windows open, hoping to cool off my apartment enough to use less a/c later. Only plan for today is groceries.

It is 63 in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 75. Chance of rain this afternoon. This is a little cooler than normal but it feels good. I look out over the 14 day outlook and I see daytime highs in the low 80s and overnight lows in the low 60s. That is perfect weather in my mind. I have been able to restart my daily walks and my legs are crabby about it right now but will feel better as they stretch out and get stronger. It is nice for the sun to feel wonderful and warming again instead of hot and oppressive.
I am going to ignore the news because it is making me sad. I worry that abortion rights are no longer the hot issue that it was even as recently as a month ago. I don’t like the polls or the trends. Apparently, we are in serious danger of losing our Senate seat in Nevada to the awful Laxalt family. That would be a huge blow to our hopes to keep Nevada blue.
In Arizona, there is good news as an appeals court has put a stay on the 1864 abortion ban, saying that subsequent legislature regulating abortion can’t simply be tossed aside. It is merely a reprieve and puts Planned Parenthood in the uncomfortable position of having to support the 15 week ban that was signed into law earlier this year. It is better than jailing doctors and letting women die in Emergency Rooms because of the very real fear of prosecution but it is certainly not where we hope to end up after all the litigation is done. There is still a possibility that we can get something better if we can put some pro-choice people in office. There is also a citizens referendum planned for 2024 to enshrine abortion rights into the state constitution making it easier for people to vote on that single issue – right now too many people who support abortion rights can’t bring themselves to vote for Democrats.
I woke up too early, unable to sleep when I could not find a comfortable position for my sore legs. I need to get in shape because I have some longer Fall walks planned. I found a cute little park with a mile and a half loop trail that I should be able to do. It has mountain views and a wonderful vista of Saguaro cactuses.

It’s 51 heading for 71 and mostly overcast at the moment. Not enough to turn on the lights but enough to think about it. And chilly enough I had a hard time getting out of my warm bed. LOL. Yesterday we generated 8.4 KWHs and the m-t-d at 61.8 is not on track. sigh.
They’ve opened a Dem HQ. Normally I’d have been the first to volunteer to staff it. Normally. But I know I’d be the only one masked. And you can’t maintain “social distance” in those circumstances. I may yet. The urge is strong. But so far I’ve withstood it. One of the city council candidates came by yesterday afternoon. When I opened the door masked, she backed away a good 6′ and asked if I’d like me to leave her materials on the step. We talked for a few minutes. That’s supposedly a non-partisan position so they can’t give party affiliation. She got around it by saying how much she liked my signs. And she mentioned a neighbor I know is not only a democrat but also is very environmentally aware as being one who was going to do a neighborhood walk with her once early voting started. We also talked about the lack of affordable housing for low-income people in Fayetteville. So I may have just changed my mind about who I’m voting for. The incumbent is a dem and a good guy – but let’s just say he’s never been short a meal or needed low-income anything.

Good morning, 62 and smoky air today. I really dislike the yellow haze that comes with the smoke. I was going to be in the garden this morning, but am now waiting for the air to clear. Reading around the internets has filled me with angst re our future so I’ll play a few solitaire games and get back into my relatively safe small world. Best wishes to all.
