Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good morning, 42 and raining. I’m ready to settle into winter rain, but I do worry about the flood warnings. It’s really hard for county residents when the Nooksack river floods. Floods don’t reacj us as we are on a hill, but as you know from all my laments water does get in the basement at times. I think/hope all our drainage issues are ok for now so the basement should stay dry but having lived through many wet Novembers I don’t totally trust the old drainage system. Oh well, I do know how to cope so if needs be that’s what I’ll do!
I see RonK his shared his Vancouver museum trip. It’s been a long time since I’ve been there so the photos are fun for me to see. He enjoyed being there with his brothers but they are all getting older so driving in Vancouver was not easy for him.
I need to be at my desk today and to getting ready for our twins birthday next week….51 yrs old now, how can that be! Best wishes to all.
{{{princesspat}}} My older son turned 51 in March. Does kind of take one aback, doesn’t it. ???? Healing Energy and moar {{{HUGS}}}
Saturday Meese. 58 going up to 75 here in Kingston. Not typical Nov. weather.
Puerto Rico
Good morning. We had storms overnight and it’s cool this morning, in the 50s. Watching the news, eating breakfast. Today: groceries, maybe a walk this afternoon.
Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 37 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 63. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. Tomorrow we escape from this Canadian jet stream and return to more normal November temperatures.
Advertisers are “pausing” their Twitter ads, waiting to see if the halving of Twitter’s support staff turns it into a cesspool because of the lack of moderation as everyone expects. Already the n-word has increased astronomically and attacks have increased. As long as the BLOCK and MUTE buttons still work, there is no reason to leave – and if people keep screencapping instead of live tweeting the terribles I don’t have to unfollow them. Musk is blaming activists for advertisers leaving which of course is true – they are “activists” when they disagree with his political party but “First Amendment patriots” when they agree with him. What a whiner! I have no idea how he managed to put together a team that created a new product and launch a successful business. There is nothing in his personality or the public-facing view of his business acumen that suggests he has a clue. It is fun watching an oligarch floundering but I do wish he had kept things generally in place until after the mid-term elections are done and the votes are counted. The possibility of serious disinformation is very high.
I am still ignoring poll results. I saw an article yesterday that suggested that the polls are within a margin of error that makes the close races a tossup. Another one pointed out that people being asked what the most important issue is suggest that it is the economy first and abortion rights second. But when the pollster asks a followup question about what issue is driving who they vote for, they say abortion rights. So, yes, people are worried about high prices for food and rent and gas but many of them are going to the polls to preserve women’s rights. If that is true, it is because voters aren’t stupid – the Republicans have no plan to address inflation or gas prices other than tax cuts for the wealthy but Democrats do have a plan to preserve reproductive rights.
It is Saturday and I can set my own agenda. I have already removed two things from my stack and I am not leaving my desk until the stack is converted into lists or filed in folders.
Tomorrow (Sunday) morning at 2am is the end of Daylight Saving Time for 2022. My clocks will not change but I will stop being in the same time zone as princesspat and be one hour closer to most of my clients who are in Central Time. That is good news because to get on client computers before they started work I had to get immediately on their computers when I got up at 4am because that was their 6am. Now it will be their 5am which should give me two hours before I have to worry about knocking the early birds off their computers.
See all y’all later!
Jan, when will you officially retire?
Good Saturday moaning, Meese, and happy Guy Fawkes day—I suppose. Or, to put it another way:
Whatever. Woke up bitchier than a leopardess with blunt claws when I remembered my three problems: (1) my physical ailments, which are of such an indelicate nature that I forbear to describe them; (2) a dog that doesn’t know what grass is for and persists in peeing on our carpets; and (3) my continuing lack of access to my Vanguard account. On Monday I’ll attempt to shame them again. If I hired a lawyer it would cost so much that I’d be right back where I started! There’s not that much in my IRA. I’m continually surprised that they let people like us in here.
I thought of a multipronged campaign: (1) Involve the state attorney, Jason Miyares, who is mean, ugly, and Rethuglican, but he IS the state attorney general; (2) write to the Washington Poop’s Op-Ed page; (3) publish my dissatisfaction on Yelp!, and (4) write to Senator Tim Kaine. On Monday, if I’m still on Twitter, I’ll embarrass Vanguard again by asking how they can be so cruel as to withhold an old woman’s money when she has doctor bills to pay.
I will, too. I have to see two OTHER specialists for my problems. Lemme tell ya, kids, when you get old your body wears out and it’s not always possible to get spare parts when it involves your internal combustion engine.
What sent me into a snarling fury this morning was the fact that I couldn’t find an egg cosy! I have two of the six I once owned. They’re gone. What happened? I told Dearly I would make him a soft-boiled egg with soldiers for breakfast, yet there was no egg cosy to keep the egg warm. Bloody hail. Very first-world, I know, but I’m upset.
So I served a naked 4-minute egg, which I shoulda cooked another 20 seconds, but Dearly ate it anyway and has enough energy to go to Target. I’ll stay home and walk Mandy as it’s a delightful-looking day in Ashbuggy, sunny with white streaks of cloud across the blue, 68 F. at 10 a.m. and going to 76 F. later.
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
It’s 42 heading for 59 and cloudy at the moment. It’s supposed to clear off this afternoon I hope so. Yesterday we only generated 4.1 KWHs and the m-t-d didn’t quite make it to 23. We’re no longer on track for 180 but not so off track we can’t get back. We shall see what we shall see.
Groggy. Rocky sleep. Also the weather change is messing with my back and the temperature drop with my hands. sigh. Nothing serious but awfully irritating. I’m glad we’re going back to standard time. Tomorrow when I get up with the sun my societal programing won’t jump on me for a late start. I’ve tried to reprogram that societal programing but have had less success than I’m happy with.
Stuff to do on twitter. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
{{{bfitz}}}} Sorry about the weather. Wish we could trade, as we’re more than 4 inches under for normal rainfall for the year. You need the sun, which we’re getting a big blast of.
Good morning, 43 and mostly cloudy. A light breeze is blowing so our soggy garden will dry a bit before the next rain. Snow is forecast for the weekend but I hope it’s as variable as the polls…..may or may not happen!
I’ve had a low grade virus all week, but the cold sores are healing and my energy seems to be returning so I may actually do something today. Best wishes to all.
