Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: January 8th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  2. Good morning. Mid-thirties, cold by our standards. Got in my mile yesterday, my knee felt wonky so I walked around my complex, in case it said I had to stop. Today: laundry, groceries, and another mile walk. Currently eating breakfast & watching Velshi — his banned book club discussion this morning will be about Zora Neale Hurston, which should be great.

  3. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 54 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 68. Mainly sunny skies are in the forecast. Next week we get the local equivalent of a deep freeze where overnight lows get close to freezing (and maybe below) and the daytime highs don’t get above 50, plus rain. Rain is always welcome, by the way. We are emerging from a drought that started with an inadequate 2020 monsoon and right now our reservoirs are looking good. Unlike California, our rain is less intense and over longer periods of time so it is soaking in pretty well.

    So the Republicans want to “manage” the debt ceiling being reached – about 7 months before all the so-called experts thought it would – by picking and choosing who will be paid. I am glad to see Social Security on their “protected list” but this is, of course, simply a way for them to defund the parts of the ALREADY SIGNED INTO LAW budget that they don’t like. I am pretty sure that won’t fly – Kevin’s House (created by lies, gerrymandering and voter suppression) was not given veto power over government spending. Things are definitely going to suck sooner than anyone expected having literal destroyers in power.

    The weekend has arrived and I am hoping to have a burst of energy to finish projects and start the process of building new online folders for 2023. I have a bit of a mishmash that formed when I beclouded all my files prior to the move and then really did not have quiet time to organize things well. I have some things in one online storage location and some in another – and I still have some files (mostly databases) kept locally and backed up. I need to get my end of year work done so that I can focus on my beginning of year work including getting the cloud organized in a way that makes sense. A lot of it things (especially those related to the house sale and the moves) can be archived. Just rereading all that I have to do made me want to take a nap!

    See all y’all later!

  4. Good Saturday morning, Meese! It’s 34 F. and as usual, cloudy. I believe clouds of utter stupidity have wafted eastward from Missouri, where male Rethug legislators are busy passing laws against women revealing bare skin (as in, sleeveless dresses). What’s next, burqas? Why don’t the men simply wear blinders?

    The good word is that Dearly feels better. He appreciated the breakfast I cooked of Ham ‘n’ Scram and American-style breakfast biscuits with butter and strawberry jam. The left side of my face is swollen, so I plan to wear a mask to the movie in the theater next door today. It’s “Mrs. ‘arris Goes to Paris.” Read the book and loved it.

    Have a very busy week coming up, culminating in child pickup and delivery-—Friday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. I’ll have to cook Sunday dinner in the middle of the day.

    Yesterday’s dental surgery was horribly intense. When the anesthetic wore off at 3:30, I had to take Advil and wait until it kicked in. Thank Goddess it did! We Zoomed with our Australian sister-in-law last night. Lots of bad news, as usual: one grandchild is too tall and not very bright, one has to work too hard at her studies to get into Uni, etc., etc. She appeared to think Don is worse off than he actually is. He does not need help with eating, bathing, or dressing. In fact, he plans to drive himself to his doctor appointments if they’re nearby, as long as he has his oxygen cylinder. I’m not sure that’s a good idea.

    How marvelous it is not to have to rush off somewhere and drink all the coffee I WANT! Wishing a good holiday weekend to all at the Pond.

  5. Good morning, 46 and sunny outside my window today. RonK is joining a volunteer work party planting native plants at Squalicum Beach estuary today. I’m not sure what I’m going to do but I’m restless so I need to do something. Staying off my BCH leg eases the pain and swelling but it’s very boring. Regardless, I grateful doing so still works. Best wishes to all.

  6. It’s 44 heading for 50 and mostly sunny today. Yesterday we generated 7.4 KWHs which brought the m-t-d to 78 – back on track, if barely.

    My son took me to Tractor Supply for cat & wild bird supplies this morning – 2 months’ worth $200 – unloaded everything for me, and then we visited for about an hour. So I’ve had a productive and pleasant morning – and am several hours behind on my twitter stuff. LOL. Healing Energy to everybody who needs it in whatever form they need it. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
