Celebrating and honoring the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. today on his birthday (I know tomorrow is the official holiday – but today is his birthday.

Good morning. Got tea steeping & watching Ali Velshi. He’s doing a segment on King’s Poor People’s Campaign. Today: church (we’re back to requiring masks) and doing meals for the week.

It’s 52 heading for 58 and sunny. Yesterday we generated 8.1 KWHs. We haven’t done that since last October 23rd. The -m-t-d at 86.7 is back on track, if barely.
Rough night last night. Didn’t sleep well. But I’ve slogged through my Sunday chores, hands and back still complaining, rewarded myself with raisins in my oatmeal, and am heading for twitter & DK. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}
Good Sunday morning, Moosekind! We have a cold, brilliantly sunny day here in Ashburn, with a current temp. of 34 F., going up to 43 F.
Contemplating the week ahead, I feel tired already. There’s going to be a lot of driving for me on the weekend. DIL is taking off for London on the 19th, where she will stay with a friend she’s known from high school. She doesn’t like anyone unless she knew him or her in high school in Beijing, which means that her friends are perforce limited.
I am struck by several things—not for the first time—about how Black people are viewed (or un-viewed) in our conservative white society. For example, when people on Twitter say, “Would you vote for Pete Buttigieg for POTUS in 2024?” Well, hail, that leaves out Biden’s second term and completely erases Vice President Harris, who by rights should run as the Democratic candidate in 2028.
I’ve known for years that men (largely) hate women, but these men seem to have a special, visceral hatred of Black, brilliant, talented women. The British media are even worse than the American media and that’s saying something.
After reading Spare, I was struck by Tyler Perry’s response to Prince Harry when the latter asked him why he was lending his house to people he barely knew.
“My mother,” Tyler Perry said.
“Your mother?”
“My mother loved your mother. After the Princess went to Harlem, Maxine couldn’t stop thinking about it. She loved your mother until the end of her life.”
I for one hope Harry and Meghan are very happy in California and will continue to flourish. Their foundation, Archewell, does a lot of good in the world.

Good morning, 44 and cloudy outside my window today. I was awake in the night, listening to the rain and reading so I’m just waking up again. I’ve got a housekeeping day ahead, changing beds, laundry, the last of Christmas, etc. I do want to make a winter arrangement for the dining room, using fresh greens and dried hydrangeas so I may do that first while it’s relatively dry and light outside. Best wishes to all.
We finally took down the holiday decorations. We needed to make a trip to the storage unit and it seemed to make sense to take things down and re-store them. I miss the lights, though! We are trying to think about what kind of lights we can put up for other times of the year.
Good morning. Up early to go to the MLK Day celebration. I’m just going to the first part, at the statue. The part at the Capitol goes on too long for my feet. We’re meeting at my church, and will walk over together. It’ll be gorgeous & sunny, though we could really use some of that rain California is getting too much of.

Good morning, meeses! Monday …
It is 45 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 52. Rain all day – the first forecast glimpse of sunshine will be tomorrow morning at 9am! The historical observances on my weather widget suggest that we average 4 days of rain in January but we have already seen much more than that and we are only half way though the month. I hope our reservoirs fill nicely to buy some time for smart people to figure out how to deal with the pending water shortages. Experience, however, shows that if something stops being a crisis, it gets pushed to the back burner. We could have made great progress if the relatively high gas prices and shortages of the 70s had led to replacing the internal combustion engine but when the prices returned to normal, “we” stopped caring and handed a cudgel to oil-producing nations to oppress oil-needing nations while destroying our planet. :(
Sarah Hucksterbee must be thrilled to be able to hide the horrible racist past of Arkansas in her new position as governor. Now with white supremacy embraced and elevated through her old boss’ movement, history books will be burned and past discrimination and outright murder will be literally white washed. I am not sure how we can fix what is happening in education, the dumbing down and the coverups of past transgressions – there will be a generation of stupidheads who have no knowledge of the past and no ability to learn from the mistakes and successes of those who came before us. Nice touch to launch your all out attack on the history of our racist past on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, hater!
Since today is a holiday, my self-imposed January 15th deadline for accounting projects will be extended one day. So I best get to it!

In the mid 70s “cheap” energy started running out. The fossil fuel companies were faced with the choice between phasing out fossil fuels and phasing in green energy and infrastructure or doubling down on fossil fuels with (ever increasing) govt subsidization. We know which one they picked. It was an evil choice then and has gotten eviler as the decades rolled by.
Wishing you a good Martin Luther King day, Moosekind! I am not sure what kind of celebration the Powers That Be are planning for today. Right now it’s 39 F. and sunny, with wisps of white cloud partly veiling the blue. We’re going to have low to mid-50s all week. This is winter?
Had a rotten night but experienced an initial burst of energy this morning. Swept the kitchen floor, made blueberry muffins for breakfast, gave some to the neighbors. Now I’m airing the bed before putting on clean sheets. I know I’m going to crr-rash this afternoon!
Hope to get some organizing done today. The computer guy is coming tomorrow to attend to both laptops. I want him to get rid of Bing, get rid of Edge’s or Microsoft’s crappy opening scenes (the only thing I want on my screen is pictures of elephants when I first sign on), kill the predictive typing, and make the stupid Lenovo print. Then he can fix the black screen and install French, German, and Spanish accent marks on both laptops. Oh, and Italian: I have an Italian friend who’s going to be 101 on January 24th. Need to find out how to say “Happy birthday” in Italian.
We debated taking down our large, pretty Costco wreath but the storage unit is full and so are all the closets. We said, what the hail, we’ll just leave it up. It’s pretty, especially at night when the lights come on. As a matter of fact, the Powers have yet to take down the Christmas decorations and lights in the clubhouses and on the common. That’s fine with me: I enjoy seeing them, especially when the bare trees are all lighted up.
Oh, Goddess, help me stay awake today!

Good luck with your computer guy! I hope he can sort things out. The one who told you that you do not need anti-virus and Internet security really left you with a mess. If the new guy plans to put an anti-virus on for you, I recommend TrendMicro Maximum Security and that you stay away from McAfee and Norton.

It’s 61 heading for 69 and overcast. Also windy so hoping the wind will blow the clouds away and we’ll get some sunshine in a bit. Yesterday we generated right at 6 KWHs and the m-t-d at 92.69 is still on track.
The nice thing about being retired is if your deepest sleep time is between 5 and 8 am, you can get it. Which I did. LOL. My right wrist is still not happy about the vacuuming I did yesterday, but I’ve got my wrist brace on and am functioning relatively OK. Off to twitter to check on folks and do my twitter chores. Good morning. Back to work after a week off; I drove in to pick up applications to work on from home. Supposed to be a gorgeous day today, though that does mean fire danger. Going to walk at lunch, will be my 18th day in a row walking over a mile. For now, I’m watching astronomy & eating breakfast.
Yay for walking! I’m still too disorganized to go to the gym, but I’ll get there eventually.

It is 50 degrees in Tucson with the temperatures dropping and the expected daytime high will only be 48. It was raining when I got up but has stopped now. We do expect to see the sun around 9am – I am looking forward to it!
To the surprise of absolutely no one, the man who was shooting at Democratic electeds’ houses in New Mexico turned out to be a Republican convinced that the election in November was rigged and that he didn’t really lose. This is what happens when lies are spread by powerful people and angry losers with guns believe them. The blood of any victims in these types of shootings are on the hands of the Republican Party for not nipping election denial in the bud. Reason number bajillion to NEVER EVER treat Republicans as anything other than destroyers of democracy and garbage people.
I finally found a Twitter app for my phone to replace the one that Twitter killed off. I had been using Owly which was compact and convenient. A few days ago, Twitter killed off the API (the programming link) between their service and the app and I could no longer log into Twitter using it. I tried the official Twitter app but it was garbage – it put unwanted “don’t you want to read this” tweets into my timeline and the format was icky. The app I found is Twidere (it also has a mastodon connection.) The Twitter login was controlled by a setting that kept itself up to date with the new APIs and after fiddling with it, I was up and running. Yay, light weight app, yay, no Twitter promotions! I was reading that Elon Musk tried to get his trial for stock tampering moved to Texas because he feels the jury in San Francisco might be “tainted” because of his assholery regarding not paying his bills and firing employees who work in the San Francisco headquarters. The judge would hear none of that and refused to move the trial. I hope he gets a billion dollar fine and has to sell Twitter to someone decent for pennies on the dollar.
It is Tuesday after a holiday and things should be more or less back to normal. I am still plodding through my accounting projects – I had to put one aside yesterday because TurboTax said that the forms were ready and they are not. I will check again today. The good news is that two client projects that I thought I needed to work on today won’t hit until later in the week so today I can continue to work on accounting projects.

It’s 42 heading for 69 and sunny at the moment. The widget says clouds will be moving in later today and hang around all day tomorrow. With possible rain. Well, we could use the rain but I hope they’re wrong about how long the clouds hang around. We generated 7.38 KWHs yesterday and the m-t-d at 99.9 is still on track.
Rough night. I’m groggy. (What else is new?) It’s been a stressful few days but everybody’s trucking on. Except for the new star in the firmament. Good afternoon, Meese! It’s 4:24 p.m. on Taco Tuesday! The current temp. in Ashboring is 46 F., and it’s one of those still, quiet, blue-grey winter days I used to love when we lived at home.
The computer guy came this morning. There was nothing he could do to help me with the Mac’s external hard drive, so I’ll have to contact Apple. My MacBook Air is going to celebrate its 8th birthday in July, so how much is it going to cost me for repairs? I shudder to think.
However, the IT guy was able to fix most things with the Lenovo. He killed Bing, got rid of the predictive typing, changed the horrible onscreen greetings to pictures I like, and showed me how to do accent marks in French, German, etc., etc., in Microsoft Word. More complicated than learning Arabic! I told him I liked DuckDuckGo, but could not do bookmarks in it. He said DDG was for old people. Huh?
Anyway, it was like going to the doctor. I feel better, but not perfect. Two out of three ain’t bad.
The physical therapist also came this morning and helped Dearly do special exercises. What a whirl of activity! The oxygen guy never showed. Oh, well, we’ll manage. Dearly has another appointment with Kaiser Woodbridge (a hideously long way from Ashboring), but at least Kaiser is providing transportation there and back. I have two more medical-dental appointments this month but after this one for Dearly, we are free of them until February.
I often think my blood pressure would be much lower if it weren’t for the Rethuglicans. Wouldn’t that be nice, to get rid of THEM and have my bp fall to 120/70, or whatever the most fashionable number is?

Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …
It is 39 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 48. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. It looks like the rain is gone for a few days. Lots of snow in northern Arizona, over three feet near Flagstaff. I look at the snarled traffic and the cars in ditches on the news and I am glad to just have the rain.
I am going to have to cut back on my news reading – the 24/7 outrage over the craptastic Republican House of Representatives, while well deserved, is too much for my delicate constitution. Plus Wisconsin, emboldened by their gerrymanders holding last year and their majority expanding, is regressing and it is painful to watch. Yesterday, the Republicans there repealed the ban on gay conversion therapy because, I guess, what are a few more dead LGBTQ youth? I am glad to be in a truly purple state that has the normal range of Republican idiocy but with institutional checks and balances. For example, the state appeals court just ruled against the KariLakers who want to end early voting. Our state legislature is plus 1 R in each house so they are forced to work with our Democratic governor. For now, at least, good government is in place here.
