Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: February 19th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good morning. Chilly — I’ll need a sweatshirt to pick up my groceries. I’m making a pasta salad with cooked vegetables for next week’s lunch, the recipe says it will freeze just fine. And that’s my day: groceries, cooking, walk.

  2. Good Saturday morning, Meese! We were supposed to wake up to weather so bad that it would keep us prisoners indoors. Instead, what did we wake up to? Why, 28 F., weak sunlight, and blue sky hiding under a massive translucent white blanket of cloud. “They” are now saying we’ll be able to watch “snow TV” this afternoon (whirling flakes that don’t stick), but that’s about all.

    That means that after I tick off one or two things on my “to do” list, I can run to the store to get stuff for tomorrow and tonight. I simply do not feel up to cooking, nor do I feel up to putting on decent clothes and tottering to a restaurant. Perhaps next weekend.

    Just read an obituary about the late Barbara Bosson, who starred in “Hill Street Blues.” I hated the character of Fay Furillo that she played, but loved the show. Apparently she was supposed to have a one-time, walk-on role, when she showed up as Capt. Furillo’s ex-wife, to tell him his child support check bounced. Well, the Captain evidently had enough money to pay for “nooners” with the Counselor at a local hotel. It was a really peculiar series, but I rather liked it. At one point in an episode I forgot I was watching TV. If a writer can make you feel you’re there, then he or she has done a good job.

    M’Daughter in Texas and son-in-law are still dealing with bad news about his health. They had a consultation in Austin yesterday, will have one at Sloan-Kettering in New York next weekend, and one in California at an unspecified future date. I really hope they get some good news from one of these places.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

  3. It’s 40 at the moment heading for 54 and overcast. We did manage to generate 7 KWHs yesterday and the m-t-d is 173.84 so hopefully we’ll reach 180 by end of day. Hopefully. We’ve 4 production days left, including today, so reaching 200 is still very possible.

    Lousy night last night. I’m not sure when I actually got to sleep but it was after 2. So I’m even groggier than usual. sigh. But my hands are working better. Off to check on folks and do my various boosting chores. {{{Meeses}}}

  4. Good afternoon, 36, cloudy and maybe snow showers later today. I was busy with family texts and phone calls this morning, so am later than usual with getting my day underway. I’m so grateful to have so many ways to communicate with family, but it does take time. So now laundry is waiting and it’s time to get busy. As always, my best wishes to all.
