Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. Good Saturday morning, Meese. Feeling in a better mood today because (1) had a good night’s sleep; (2) half of my monthly income was deposited in the bank accounts today—2 days early; and (3) after much research, I discovered we received an inch and a half of beautiful rainfall in Ash-not quite as burned–in the past 24 hours. It began to rain just as I got up to look out the window yesterday morning and continued, at greater or lesser intensity, throughout the day. We are now only 5 and 1/2 inches under normal for the year.
It’s supposed to rain tomorrow and be cooler (60’s) than normal all during the first week of May. The weather forecaster yesterday said we were having the most rain in 127 days. OK, I’ll shuddup about this now but cannot help being happy for the farmers.
Right now it’s 52 F.
Yesterday I visited the primitive, troglodytic East Coast ENT’s office. They had never heard of giving an injection of hyaluronic acid. One ENT was out for the day, the other was on vacation, so I had to see the PA.
No injection. I found out you can order the stuff from Amazon. I am SO DISAPPOINTED! I thought I’d get my voice back on Friday! Just think, on May 11 I have to lead my writing group, on May 19 I have to lead the Biography Book Club, and on June 21 I’m supposed to officiate as High Priestess at a summer solstice ritual! In between I have morning coffees and afternoon happy hours.
All this with no voice?
The PA told me to “rest” my voice. What does she think I’ve been doing for six g*ddamn weeks? Whatever. I’ve ordered the hyaluronic acid, a substance the body produces naturally, which can be taken orally. It should arrive from Amazon today. (Is there anything one CAN’T order from Amazon?) The PA numbed my nostril, stuck an instrument down there, and told me my vocal cords are inflamed, not paralyzed, which is good news. She prescribed a course of oral steroids and said it would be 4 weeks before I could see any improvement.
!@#$%^&*!
Well, I’ll take the course of tablets but when they’re finished I’ll start on the hyaluronic acid. Even I am not stupid enough to mix the two. In the meantime, I’ve suddenly realized that May 1 is Monday and May 4 my flash fiction is due. Gulp!
My karate class starts this morning at 10:30. I never made it to the play last night—felt too tired, stressed out, P.O.’d, and disappointed. That’s the second time I’ve missed going to the play after paying for a ticket. Good thing they only cost $5.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond, sunlight to those who crave it, and rain after dinner for me. A la prochaine, Meese!
It’s 54 going to 67 and overcast. Sign. The rain’s gone, the clouds aren’t. Yesterday we generated 9.3 KWHs and the m-t-d is 392. It’s still possible to reach my 420 target. IF the sun comes out today and tomorrow.
I’m sick. Even masked I seem to have picked up a stomach bug. I’m thinking either the unmasked pharmacist who gave me the vax or a door handle into or out of the pharmacy or the Mexican restaurant where I got my takeout. I think/hope the turning point came about 6 this morning when I went to the bathroom, was suddenly drenched in cold sweat, almost didn’t have enough strength to get back to bed, and slept hard for 3 hours.
Talked to my sister this morning. Her words said hopeful, her voice had suppressed tears. She talked to a friend who’s a nurse at M.D. Andersen & she said Denver’s giving him the same treatment they would so stay there where Grant’s support group is. He starts his 2nd round of chemo Monday. Insurance and his work are all being good, supportive. And that’s helping Alice, too.
Heading over to twitter & Spoutible. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 63 and sunny in my garden today. I still need to be careful re activity because the TMJ misery is getting better and I want that to continue. But I’m restless, so I’ll see what I can carefully do outdoors. Best wishes to all.
