Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: June 18th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. It’s 75 and I closed the house half hour ago. Forecast shifted up overnight. It’s going to 96 today. I’ve got to bake anyway – I’m out of cooked protein – so today/this evening may be the “give up & turn the A/C on” point. (Thursdays high has been moved up to 103.) Yesterday we didn’t quite make it to 18 KWHs but that was enough to bring the m-t-d at 393.7 back on track.

    Rotten night. Sinusitis. I didn’t manage to actually get to sleep until 4. Slept until 7:30 – with a bathroom break at 5:30. So I’m groggy and my eyes are gritty. Can’t wear my glasses today. Or at least right now. And my nose hurts. Oh well. Minor issues. And the boosting awaits. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  2. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 68 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 99. Sunny skies are in the forecast. Starting tomorrow we will enter into our annual summer heat wave. For at least the next 14 days temperatures will be in the mid to upper 100s. No sign of monsoon rains, yet. Pima County is setting up cooling stations for people without air conditioning. It will be challenging for many.

    Russian Civil War? Putin being overthrown by his mercenary war lord? Yikes! I hope it means relief for Ukraine and maybe even an end to the hostilities there. It is surely alarming to have any nuclear power in disarray – I am sure the world held their collective breaths during every second of the tRump reign of error. I hope that arresting Putin is high on the new guys lists.

    Microsoft is doing something to how authentication is done on their cloud based services and it apparently is going to happen on Monday, June 26th whether people are ready or not. I need to figure out what to do for my clients who use those services and who do not have Multi-Factor Authentication turned on. So much for taking the weekend off from work related activities.

    See all y’all later!

    • All the experts on MSNBC are saying this isn’t a “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” deal – that the enemy of our enemy is also a violent fascist thug. They are likening it to a mob war. Sure, it’s good if they take each other out, but neither one is someone we want to win.

  3. Good morning, 59 and partly sunny in my garden today. I’m close to finishing the project I’ve been working on, just need to get someone here to do some digging for me as using he shovel is hard now. When I started redoing that planting area several years ago I didn’t need so much help so it’s frustrating. Oh well, gardening takes time and patience and I seem to be struggling with both! Best wishes to all.
