Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good morning. Woke up early to run outside and watch the Space Station fly over. Watching the news, eating breakfast. Groceries later, housework, and I’ll go to the gym this afternoon. Laryngitis continues, I had to leave work early yesterday. Throat coat tea with honey, and I guess I’ll try gargling with salt water? (or is that for a sore throat?)
Gargling with salt water couldn’t hurt in your situation.
Good Saturday morning, Meese, from a rather subdued Ashburn, where the temperature is 69 F. Yesterday we had tremendous storms, torrents of rain, loads of thunder, lightning, the lot at 5 p.m.! Of course, the paper reported this as being .04 of an inch. It wasn’t that out here! We were warned by the emergency system on our phones to stay inside and not travel as floods were threatening.
Right now it’s cloudy, on its way up to 88 F. I hope the dumb meteos will adjust their rainfall measurements after what we’ve had. We’re 11 inches under normal for the year. More rain is predicted for this evening and tomorrow.
Poor Dearly went to the Urgent Care doctor, who merely took X-Rays and did not give him ANYTHING for the pain! Doctors are useless. Dearly is so thin! Poor darling, I wish he could get relief from his pain. He uses Aspercreme and Lidocaine at the moment.
Am I fey? I have heard a dog bark from time to time, right here in our flat. It woke me from a nap yesterday and again at 5:30 this morning. Monty has been dead for nearly a year now, but some of his ashes repose in a container in our closet. Is he warning me of another death? On October 4 I’ll sneak out very early in the morning or late at night to scatter the rest of his ashes. After all, he did live here for half of his 11 years.
More news, if you’re not tired of my babble: Connie S. called me last night to tell me we’ll perform my second play, “DNA Dilemma” at the next Drama Club meeting. We’ll meet next Friday to do a read-through, and again at 1 o’clock on September 23, an hour before the Drama Club meeting, to practice our parts. It’s a read-through, we won’t be using props. Connie went on for a bit about what a powerful and important play it is, and hinted that it might be performed on the stage at some future date. She wants me to play Irene, the English teacher.
Well, that’s enough from me, Meese. Hope you have a good weekend.
It was 59 this morning when I went to the Market to get my apples. Wearing long pants for the first time since May. LOL. It’s 64 now heading for 86 and sunny. Yesterday we managed to generate 11.6 KWHs which was surprising considering all the clouds in the morning. The m-t-d at 96 is right on track for 360.
Fineena spent most of yesterday alternating between crying and sleeping. No way did she want Henry to continue as he was. But she misses him. And has no other dog to comfort and for comfort as she did when Sam and then later Julia died. (The vet suggested she get an older Lakeland Terrier. Lakelands look like miniature Airedales but aren’t, they’re a separate breed. Just a quarter the size. Whatever. She’ll look for a companion when the heaviest grief has passed.)
I won’t need to close up the house for about an hour but I still need to start my boosting day. Working 3 platforms doesn’t take that much more time but it does take a lot more typing and concentration. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good afternoon, 69 and sunny in my garden today. I knew it was going to be a challenge to keep up with Elsa, and it is! She is a sweet dog but so full of energy and so focused on me. Oh well, brings a lot of life and activity to our quiet life.
Our son had cell service while the boat was refueling in Ketchikan yesterday so we visited and he shared some videos. He looks rested and healthy and is having fun so keeping Elsa for him is well worth the time it takes. Best wishes to all.
