Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: February 18th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

It is 48 degrees in Tucson ???? with an expected daytime high of 77. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. This morning the sky was clear and I could see the stars over the mountains, the full moon casting her moonlight over the greenspace that my deck overlooks and beaming into my office window from the western sky.

The frantic efforts of Alabama Republicans to try to fix the mess their hand picked white christian nationalist Supreme Court made is hilarious to watch! The Attorney General says “I would nevah – I say nevah – think of charging anyone for murder under the new rules!” Yeah, right. The legislature is falling all over themselves to find a way to keep IVF health care firms from leaving the state, one plan was to declare that an embryo that is not in a human incubator (ie a woman) is not a child. Good luck with that. Meanwhile, over half the Republican cacas in the U.S. House of Representative are in favor of a “life at conception” national law – so any attempts to fix what their fundieism has wrought will run into the headwinds of their misogynistic party. Goddess help us if these people stumble back into power.

I got up later than usual and have not gotten the things done that I like to get done before the sun comes up. I will make notes on what is left and hope I can get back into it. If I don’t, tomorrow morning will be way too busy.

    See all y’all later!

  2. It’s 44 heading for 66 and sunny. More like May than April in February. Like the rest, I hope this doesn’t portend a scorching summer. But I like the sunshine no matter what the temps are. Yesterday we generated 14.4 KWHs and the m-t-d is 218.

    There’s nothing new that I know of. I got up in time to see the moon before she dropped below the trees/hill to the west of me. If she’s not full, she’s full enough that I can’t tell the difference with my eyesight. LOL. Anyway, time to get to my boosting day. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

    • One of the advantages of being out and about in the evenings is that after rehearsal I can see the Snow Moon at near-fullness. Did you know she’s called “the micro-moon” this time? That’s because she’s at the farthest point of her elliptical orbit, the exact opposite of a supermoon.

She was beautiful last night, and I feel lucky to have seen Her. Not sure whether I can see Herself tonight.

      • This is true. Aji’s people call her Bear Moon. Different peoples, different names. Definitely she was beautiful and I always feel lucky to see her because we’ve had so much cloud cover it can be weeks without me being able to.

  3. Good Saturday morning, fully developed human beings disguised as Meese. We have namby-pamby sunlight here in Ashbored, with a blue-ish sky that looks as if someone’s bleached it with Clorox, and 45 F. It’ll get up to 48 F. today, or so They say.

Former embryos, this musical is really getting to me. Instead of greeting people with the customary “Hello,” I find myself singing, “Everything’s up to date in Kansas City/It’s better than a magic lantern show.” Fellow Drama Club members will sing right back, while bystanders gaze in utter stupefaction.

This is another thing I can’t tell my friend who is no longer on this earthly plane. I miss her so much! I have two other best friends, but they’re both busy with their own lives. My friend was retired, like me. When you lose a friend who knows all about you and likes you anyway, it really hurts. Perhaps I can blog about it.

The last traces of snow have vanished from the hillside. I have letters to write today, and if I don’t get back to the gym, all hail is going to break loose with my figure.

At our next meeting I want my writers to undertake this assignment for April: a “what-if” construction. What if animals could talk? Would they object to our plans for them? (Ask the Fatted Calf in the Bible.) What if someone invented a camera which, instead of adding 10 pounds, removed 15? Would the entire diet industry come crashing down and we’d have a recession? What if the Russians did succeed in bringing down our entire electric grid? What if only boys were born, and there were no girls from here on out?

I think my writers will find it interesting. So Nikki Haley is to experience humiliation today. How I utterly despise developed embryos who, having taken advantage of every affirmative action program of the last 50 years (including running for POTUS despite being born female), and then repudiate their hardly won advantages! She deserves to be humiliated.

That said, I’ll examine this post for typos and then get on with the rest of my day. Wishing a good day to all frequenters of the Pond!

    • Singing bits of the show and being responded to with the next lines has always been one of the best parts of working on a musical! I’m glad you’re having fun. (I’ve thought of you “what if” regarding only boys being born as one of the better because quicker ways to save Earth from human damage. Gone in one generation. A blink of an eye by Her time sense. Although it would still take several blinks to recover from what we’ve already done. Never mind what that last generation of males, knowing they were the last, would do on their way out.)

  4. Good morning, 46 and cloudy outside my windows today. We’re cooking one last birthday lunch at our son’s house tomorrow so I have a flower arrangement to make and RonK is on salsa duty. So glad our kids are hosting and that the Feb birthday marathon is finally over! I’ll walk around the garden and see what I can clip, then go to TJ’s for flowers. I can usually find a ready made arrangement so it’s easy to just add a few garden stems and be done. Best wishes to all.
