Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good morning. I actually did 3 rounds of 8 minutes running yesterday! And I didn’t think I was going to die. Our eclipse weather is looking cloudy at best, sigh. I put in for the day off, but I’m reconsidering. Monday is hard to take off, because I have to have applications to work on Tuesday & Wednesday…. And yes, the Science Channel will be running astronomy shows all day, but is that cool enough to stay home for? My office is going to shut the phones so we can go across to the parking garage and watch from the roof — probably along with everyone else who works in the area. So like I said, reconsidering. Meanwhile, astronomy & wfh.
Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …
It is 46 degrees in Tucson ???? with an expected daytime high of 75. Sunny skies are in the forecast. I finally was able to see the lovely waning crescent in the southeast sky – I miss the moons during our cloudy weather!
The killing of Chef Andrés’ aid workers by the Netanyahu government’s lack of caring about civilians caught up in the Gaza war zone should be the last straw for those considering supplying more munitions and military aid to Israel. The IDF doesn’t care who they kill, how many civilians die or, really, what anyone thinks. How can we ally with a government that is committing war crimes? Fix it, Joe.
I have an early morning remote assistance appointment that I need to prepare for.
See all y’all later!
Chef Andrés is sick of the lies:
Damn the IDF! There is NO EXCUSE for this!
Goddess knows, most rational persons are not in favor of Hamas, but innocent Gazans are a different matter. Doesn’t that !@#$%^&* Netan-yahoo realize that his country will lost his last friend over this? Stop the killing. Stop the war.
It’s 42 heading for 57 and supposed to be sunny today although it’s not at the moment. But there are large patches of blue in the sky so I’m sure the sun will find its way to some of them. Yesterday we didn’t quite make it to 3 KWHs and the m-t-d at 11.2 is way off track for any of my April goals. sigh.
I should be on the treadmill right now but I made the mistake of sitting down at the computer to check my email & now there’s a little black cat sleeping in my lap. Oh well. The treadmill will still be there when he gets up. And breakfast can wait til I’m done. Meanwhile I’ll get started on my boosting day. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Dee, are you near Albany, New York? M’Daughter is about to move to Lenox, MA. That’s about an hour away from you, isn’t it?
I’m an hour below Albany – about an hour and a half from Lenox
Good Wednesday morning, Moosekind! It’s 47 F. in Ashburn, raining heavily, and quite chilly. I survived yesterday by sleeping, resting, and taking lots of Pepto Bismol. Ugh. I didn’t wear a mask last night when I went to rehearsal, which was in the great barn of a place that is used variously as a chapel, exhibition hall, and so on. The acoustics are terrible.
I’m hopeless as an assistant director. I’m meant to support the director, but I can’t write fast enough to write down everyone’s blocking, I lost an important paper re the beginning when the curtain goes up, and I’m just not quick enough off the mark when it’s time to prompt the characters.
Even less qualified than I, however, is the so-called “music director,” the third to occupy this position since we began rehearsing in January. She deigned to show up yesterday, but stopped doing her job when we were half-way through the music. OMG. She’s reputed to be a bit dotty, and I can well believe it.
Will say again, although it’s easy enough to blank out on lines when you’re up on that stage, some people are so old they can’t remember anything. The director is 83, and pretty sharp, but some of the others…
Well, we’ll just have to see. Dearly went to Urgent Care yesterday and was gone from 10:30 to 3 p.m. He was X-rayed. I wish I weren’t involved in this show, I need to look after him.
Well, must be off before the alleged terrible weather, “lightning, heavy rain, and flooding,” begins later. Yesterday this area received 0.6 inches of rain. How they do love to scare us! Wishing a good day to all at the Pond. Please wish me good luck translating grams to cups. I’m going to make a real Welsh rarebit for lunch.
Good morning, 48 and light clouds outside my windows today. I see Keith (pt) this morning so I hope I can make better progress now that I have some relief from the intense knee pain. I really want to be able to work in the garden again but doing whatever I need to do to preserve the mobility I’ve got is more important. Best wishes to all.

Good Thurs morning Meese. Snow and sleet here. Nasty weather. We have power.
Puerto Rico
These spring storms are nasty but if you don’t have to go anywhere and can stay inside, usually in a few days the snow disappears. I once moved on an April 1st during a raging snowstorm and three days later it was all gone – except the memory of how awful it was.
Good morning. Just barely made 2 rounds of 8 minutes running. The treadmill really helps. Still undecided about working Monday. The weather report says it’ll be cloudy. : (
Anyway, in the office. Must stay awake. Another day of hoping that the WCK murders are finally the last straw for aid to the Israeli government’s attacks.
I read something that suggests that the targets are selected by Artificial Intelligence programs. JHC on a popsicle stick! What a terrible idea! They need to have all hits assessed by a human, preferably one with at least one empathy gene left.
Not only selected by an AI program called “Lavender” (why do evil people name their evil after such nice things), but that AI is programmed to hit their targets at night in their homes.

It’s 44 heading for 66 and sunny today. Yesterday we generated 17.9 KWHs and the m-t-d at 27.2 while definitely not on track did gain a little.
This afternoon I get to try and put Freddie in the carrier and take him to the vet for his annual checkup and his rabies shot. I’m fairly certain I can do that. As long as I don’t lose him on the first try. Cats! I’m not even going to try with Bobbie again. Should he sometime – during office hours – go into the carrier by himself AND I get the door closed before he gets out again, I take him in the hopes he can be “worked in” at least long enough to get the rabies shot. Otherwise he’s going to be an illegal cat. I’m not as worried about that as I probably should be because he’s an indoor only cat. He doesn’t try to slip out when I open the back door like the others do. But anyway, Freddie today. Then not worry about cats and vets for at least a year. And for now I’m off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, meeses! Thursday …
It is 53 degrees in Tucson ???? with an expected daytime high of 84. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The roller coaster continues – three days of typical spring weather then Saturday back into the 60s. Oh well, it is what it is – glad to not be in Wisconsin or the Northeast right now. My waning crescent moon is now over the mountains as she moves through the sky. I should be able to see her when she is razor-thin right before the new moon which will be on the 8th.
Hahahaha! Disgraced and disbarred John Eastman asks for a delay in his disbarment so that he doesn’t have to pay attorneys to appeal his case. I hope that lawyers who thought that providing tRump with legal advice about how to ratfk a presidential election would be no big deal realize now that it IS a big deal and that those who stayed away from it are looking on in horror and not inclined to join Giuliani, Eastman, Chesebro and others in bankruptcy and maybe prison.
Will Pastor Mike Johnson survive as Speaker? I guess we will find out fairly soon. He is now being called a “Democrat” by the MAGAt Cacas in the House. Yikes!
I have a few projects that I need to finish up from yesterday so I need to get back to it.
See all y’all later!
Good Thursday morning, Meese. Right now it’s 49 F. in Ashburn and the high will probably climb to the 50s. It keeps trying to be sunny but clouds keep coming back. Early this morning the woods were full of grey mist that turned gold when the sun came up—ah, a fair day! Pools of water are shining in the woods and green is creeping in everywhere.
Can’t BELIEVE the weather in the rest of the country! Gaia is pissed off and trying to get rid of us. Have a doctor’s appointment this morning, then must run by the store to get more Neosporin. Dearly ‘s wounds are better, but he keeps bandaging them. He’s losing interest in food, which does not seem to be a good sign.
Last night we practiced Act I, tonight it’ll be Act II, plus the blocking for the bows. I’ve learned a lot from this experience: I’ve learned that I NEVER want to be an “assistant director” or director again. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond, especially with Princesspat and her knees and Bfitz with getting Freddie into the cat carrier
Good morning, 48 and partly cloudy in Bellingham today. I’ll have help with both home and garden today and my challenge is to stay out of their way :) Per Keith (PT) the plan for this week is to continue to elevate, ice and rest, stay off my knees as much as possible, use the walkers, do the strengthening exercises, and just basically let everything settle down. So that is what I will do. Best wishes to all.
Friday Meese. 32 here in Kingston, going up to 46. Had a scare yesterday – Nad fell down, slipped out of his chair when he bent over to pet one of the doggies and I couldn’t get him back up – he weighs 240 lbs to my 114. Had to call my godson for help – it took two men to hoist him back up. Luckily he wasn’t hurt.
I’m perturbed about Blumenthal’s call for Justice Sotomayor to resign
I understand the sentiment but Justice Sotomayor is not like Justice Ginsberg – she is not fighting a terminal disease, her health issues are very manageable. Plus there is no guarantee that Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, on their way out, won’t ratfk a Supreme Court confirmation vote. Manchin was not happy to have to vote for Justice Jackson and Sinema hates everything and everyone right now.
I dislike Senators using actuarial “science” to force justices off the court. Burp Keggernaugh with his strange-looking skin and happy drinking is just as likely to be the next justice to get ill and leave the court. Or Mrs. Jesse Barrett could decide she can’t please her husband and work at the same time and will resign. Or Gorsucks could fall off a horse and hit his head on the ranch bought for him by his rich patrons. I don’t expect Alito or Thomas to ever die, pure evil has a way of resisting the Grim Reaper.
Dear Goddess, yes. Look at Thing and Putie.
Hi, Dee, so sorry about Nad! Same thing happened to Dearly on Easter Sunday. We had to call the emergency techs to raise him up. I couldn’t do it. Hope Nad is doing okay despite the fall.
Well, blast the hide of Blumenthal! He can just SHUT UP! There’s no reason for her to resign. He can go right to hell.
Yikes! about Nad’s fall. So glad he wasn’t hurt. Healing Energy to you & your household. {{{Dee}}}
(& agist racist Dems can eff off & quit doing the Rs work for them.)

In case you haven’t seen this video on VP Harris:
Good morning. Did my walk — just a walk; I tried running but gave up after 3ish minutes. It’s a nice, cool morning and I went up to the roof of the garage where I usually walk. Did nearly a mile & a half. My bosses talked me into taking Monday off, said we’ll figure something out for me to have applications to work on Tuesday & Wednesday. (I think it was me talking about having favorite episodes of How The Universe Works & wondering if they’re the ones Science will be showing that broke them) The dermatologist wants me to have Mohs surgery for a spot on my forehead/scalp. Sigh. So much for getting my bills paid off.
Oh — I forgot to mention: I’m hosting the music diary tomorrow at the orange place — my headline is “the eclipse is coming!” so you can start gathering music now. 6PM central time.
Good morning, meeses! Friday …
It is 51 degrees in Tucson ???? with an expected daytime high of 72. Partly cloudy with a wind advisory this afternoon. Yesterday we got into the 80s!
No Labels, No Mas. Good freaking riddance, ratfkers. Their spiritual leader Joe LIEberman kicked the bucket and thankfully they are done trying to destroy democracy for at least this election cycle. There was no way that their scheme to field a candidate was going to do anything but insure the election of Donald J. Trump.
I hope that Ukraine aid is not tied to specific aid to Israel. No money should go to Israel’s military until they stop starving Gaza and killing civilians. I am with Chef Andres. Biden needs to read the room – if he is worried about losing Democratic votes by being stern with Israel, I think there are more Democratic votes to lose by not being stern. We can hope everyone comes back into the fold by November but if the election is close, we can’t afford to lose votes to third parties or write-ins or by people staying home like they did in 2016.
I have a full weekend of client work and I need to make sure that I have everything I need to complete the work.
See all y’all later!
Good Friday moaning, Moosekind. What are we moaning about today? We woke up to a fair but chilly morning—so very agreeable, and I was feeling quite happy—but now clouds have moved in again. We did not receive any of the thunder, heavy downpours, hail, or graupel predicted by the demented forecasters.
Right now in cloudy Ashburn it’s 48 F., due to climb to 54 F. I am worried about Dearly. He’s losing interest in eating and in reading the paper. (Granted, the paper is full of rubbish, but not reading the paper is one of the signs of leaving this world.) I wish I didn’t have to leave him every night (and tomorrow for three hours), but I’ve got another month of this and it’s going to get worse.
Last night we rehearsed Act II. Oh, dear Goddess, the cast member playing Aunt Eller kept forgetting her lines. The others are mostly off-book by now. Yes, when you’re up there on the stage it’s easy to blank out, but she’s doing it too much and missing her cues. Why, oh, why, did I ever get involved in this? I can’t get out now. I’ve already canceled my visit to Texas for the family reunion.
Have the April meeting of the writers coming up next week, so I’ll spend my one free day reading their essays.
That’s all from me today, Moosekind! Goddess help the Gazans! I read an op-ed in the WaPo from a Gazan who’s trying his best to feed his neighbors. His account of what the Israelis did to him and others is AWFUL. Wishing a good day to all Pond dwellers.
It’s 48 heading for 73 and sunny today. Yesterday we generated 21.3 KWHs which we haven’t done since last June! The m-t-d is 50.6 – not on track even for the “at least 400″ goal but closer.
Got Freddie to the vet yesterday with no problems. Now that the top door of the carrier opens (thanks to my son having sawed off 1/8” of the too-long rod that kept it from opening a week ago) they examined him and gave him his rabies shot in the carrier and he stayed calm the whole time. Which surprised all of us, considering his history. I’m beginning to think the previous vet had trouble with him because they were trying to wrap him up in a towel. I know it’s vet/vet-tech truism that being wrapped up makes cats feel secure but with the twins & Bobbie it sends them into blind panic mode. If I were a little faster (or sneakier) I’d have gotten Bobbie too. When Freddie & I got home I set the carrier on the floor & opened it to let Freddie out then left it there for the other cats to sniff. Bobbie went all the way inside. But he saw or heard me coming and got out again when I was just a few feet too far away to shut the door on him. (The vet said that any time I got Bobbie in the carrier during office hours to bring him down and they’d work him in.) Oh well. Live in hope or something.
Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
