Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good morning. Did my walk, it’s finally not ten million degrees — we had rain last night & it’s a lovely 71 degrees. Posted fundraising links with my walking updates. Getting ready for wfh morning.
It’s 62 heading for 81 and sunny at the moment. Widget says it’ll cloud up soon and we might get rain this afternoon though. Yesterday we only got 12.58 KWHs but the m-t-d is already at 427.6 and can still easily make it to 450 for the month. That’ll put it more or less mid point between the really good production years and the really bad ones.
I’ve very much enjoyed basket’s company and am sorry he’s leaving so soon. He’s still abed but plans to leave for Sedalia and the Scott Joplin Festival around 9 (central time). But he’ll stay overnight here on Sunday on his way back to Memphis and the flight home. We had a fun lunch with my son yesterday at the Hawaiian poke place then enjoyed (but did pay for – LOL) the pizza my son made for dinner. Earicle had sent a secret “nuclear codes” envelope with basket for me that turned out to be cash to treat us to meals while he’s here. And it did. After the Chinese food dinners for 2, poke lunch for 3, and a large pizza for dinner last night there was exactly 10 cents left which I dropped in the tip jar. Basket’s having leftover Chinese for breakfast this morning. I’ll be eating Chinese and Hawaiian leftovers for dinner for the rest of the week. We haven’t yet decided who gets the pizza leftovers. LOL. Yes, it’s been/being fun.
Didn’t connect with Fineena last night. If she doesn’t call this evening, I’ll try to call her. Meanwhile I’d best be about my boosting day until basket gets up. Holding the Good Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
What fun to see basket and have a meal with your son! There’s nothing like being with people you love. And how nice of Amelia to supply a “nuclear” codes envelope!
Yup, nothing finer than being with folks you love. (She said that she could at least treat us since she couldn’t be with us.)
Good, beautiful Wednesday morning, Moosekind! Sorry I couldn’t make it here yesterday but I was racing to get ready for my appointment with the eye doctor, my first in years. She tested me, told me I had 20-20 vision, and not to come back for a year.
It’s 68 F. right now and lovely outside, but it won’t last. We’re expecting rain again this afternoon. So far we’re a little ahead of normal. The high will be 75 F.
I’m meeting one of my writers at the Clubs Fair this morning at 11 a.m. I want her to join the Drama Club. She has a difficult situation in her life that can’t be solved, so on the theory that living well is the best revenge, she can immerse herself in other people’s drama. Even though she’s confined to an electric vehicle to get around, she can participate in reader plays, do makeup for performances, sell tickets, and so on.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I’m editing like mad and feeling terribly pleased at the quality of offerings for our anthology! There’s something for everyone: fantasy, sci-fi, humor, poetry, ghost stories, mysteries, and personal reminisces. When we first discussed putting out the anthology, one writer objected to including long stories in it. I pointed out that an anthology isn’t something you sit down and read straight through: you keep the book on the coffee table or your nightstand and have a five- or 10-minute read with your coffee or before going to sleep.
Fell asleep in the green chair AGAIN after dinner last night. I must start staying awake so I can telephone friends. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
P. S. I heard a suspicious noise when I stepped out onto the porch this morning. I think they’re here already! They were in North Carolina a week ago. The cicadas, the cicadas…dear Goddess.
Good morning,53 and cloudy in Bellingham today. I have my usual lists, but I’m grumpy and not very motivated so apparently I need a few more days of misery before I get a grip. Oh well, when I start feeling bored with my sorry self things usually improve. I’ve got lots of choices re what to do, just need to find the motivation. Best wishes to all.
Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …
It is 87 degrees in Tucson ???? with an expected daytime high of 97. Sunny skies are in the forecast. I got my walk in when it was only 80 (which feels like 76). Last night was a remarkable wildlife evening! We saw western quail, a road runner, a coyote and a squadron of javelinas that included the tiniest baby I have ever seen hiding under its mother – all within about a half hour window of time.
Another day, another set of poll related headlines sprinkled with the orange sh*tstain’s face and name. I have plenty to do here.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. It’s 75 degrees already (better than where we started the week, but still….) I did 2 6-minute running segments and made it ¾ of the way up that stupid hill. There’s new music from my other favorite band, and I’m in the office today so I have to stop listening to it. But Gary is such a poet:
There is nothing for me in these past lives
there is only what I wasn’t yet
Good glorious May Thursday, Meese! Would you believe it was 57 F. when we woke up today? It’s a little breezy but there’s plenty of sunshine and clear blue sky. I need to get out for a 15-minute walk pretty soon to grab my daily dose of sunshine.
Guess what, the Sales Department is paying for my lunch today because an incoming resident wants to talk to me. Word about my Blue Ridge Writers must have got around, because it’s my group she wanted to join. We’re full, though. So I’ll tell her how I run the Writers’ Group, and why no one ever wants to leave, and why we have such a tight bond.
Made blueberry muffins for breakfast this morning and left some on the shelves of people in my hallway who live alone. Discovered with horror that the brown sugar had solidified into a lump, so I used some of Dearly’s maple sugar. It’s so expensive I only used one-third of a cup instead of two-thirds, but I swear, you can’t tell the difference. I didn’t bake muffins from mid-January until last week because of the play. At the UU dinner the other night I asked Ali Hakim if he missed rehearsing with the others. “Sometimes,” he said. He’s so funny.
Have Nails at 10:30, then lunch at 12:30 with the incoming resident, then…blissful collapse. By the way, I saw Snippy at the Clubs Fair yesterday. I decided to forgive him for his momentary disrespect, so we had a very pleasant conversation with people milling around us. I urged him to take lots of photos during his cruise of Norway and the Faroe Islands, as some of us will never travel to those places. He can have an exhibition when he comes back, we have two art galleries here.
That’s enough from me this morning! Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
The Sales Department should pay you a salary to run the Writers’ Group if it is now a drawing card for their community! Do you have a waiting list she can join?
Thanks for the giggles! The idea of their paying ME is one for the ages!
I do have a waiting list, but no one ever leaves, so it’s rather useless. My writers never know what I’m going to do next, so that keeps them coming back.
Thursday Meese. No rain today -yay
Just posted
It’s 68 heading for 82, heat index 85, and sunny at the moment. The monsoonal clouds, without the monsoonal rains, are supposed to move in this afternoon. They did yesterday but we managed to generate 15.2 KWHs anyway. The m-t-d is at 442.8 so unless it gets a lot darker than I expect we should reach 450 today. That will be nice.
Basket didn’t leave until 9:45 yesterday but he got safely to Sedalia by 3 pm. It’s the 50th anniversary of the Scott Joplin Festival there and hopefully he’s having fun. I’ll get to see him again, briefly, Sunday night/Monday morning as he’s staying with me on his way back to Memphis and his flight home. It’s so very wonderful to see him again. Just before he left yesterday he took a pic of me wearing the Essense of Cat pendant (designed & created by Wings of course) he & earicicle commissioned for my birthday last year. I posted it on Xitter yesterday afternoon/evening if anybody wants to see it. I’d post it here but I don’t know how. LOL.
I connected for only a few minutes with Fineena last night. She was supposed to have something implanted yesterday (she told me what but I didn’t write down and now have forgotten) but after waiting at the doctor’s office for solid hours, oh oopsy, they hadn’t ordered it. She probably would have gone on at length about how frustrating that was except somebody came in she had to deal with right then and we got off the phone. Hopefully we’ll connect tonight and I’ll hear more.
Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, meeses! Thursday …
It is 71 degrees in Tucson ???? with an expected daytime high of 97. Sunny skies are in the forecast. I saw the last quarter moon early this morning (1:30am) rising over the mountains. Seems like she was just full!
Alito says “my wife is fond of flying flags” – I wonder if he would also defend her right to fly the Stars and Bars? Sheesh.
Busy day as the countdown to the end of the month proceeds.
See all y’all later!
Good morning, 53 and cloudy in Bellingham. Yesterday was a dramatic weather day with dark skies and pouring rain in the morning and blue skies and rain showers in the afternoon. RonK took some nice photos of the sun illuminating the wet green leaves the maple trees at a park but got very wet and muddy doing so. I was indoors all day, trying to adjust to my new routine of not doing very much. I’m grateful to be feeling less pain but it’s hard to question every move I make. Oh well, I know I’ll sort it out eventually. Best wishes to all.
So we have gigantic thunderstorms going…. I walked inside the garage, did run up one long ramp that was dry. Lots of lightning. Happy about the verdict; do wonder what his worshipers will do, feeling that their golden calf is threatened. In the office one more day, hope we’re less short-staffed than we were yesterday.
Friday Meese. 55 here in Kingston going up to 76.
I’m replaying this:
Puerto Rico
It’s 65 heading for 71, overcast, very humid, and supposed to rain soon. Yesterday we generated 13.3 KWHs and brought the m-t-d up to 456 so while we didn’t meet the 1st (over 500) or 2nd (496 to beat last year) goals we still did just fine for a month I didn’t have to turn the A/C – or even the bathroom heater when I take my showers.
Talked to Fineena for a bit last night. Everything’s still up in the air. But she’s still at the Matthews Health & Rehab and so as safe as she can be right now. Basket’s at the Scott Joplin Festival in Sedalia MO, enjoying the music and visiting with friends & acquaintances in the Ragtime Music world. Don’t know of anything new with anybody else.
Well, it’s good to see the orange one actually convicted of some of his multitude of crimes. We’ll see if it makes any more difference than him being impeached & indicted did. The MSM has been paving the way for it to NOT make any difference by calling the charges “hush money” which the magats don’t even think IS a crime. Maybe if he’s actually serving time in prison for at least the next 4 years (at best the rest of his life) it really will.
Meanwhile I’ve got stuff to boost. Holding the Good Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, meeses! Friday …
It is 64 degrees in Tucson ???? with an expected daytime high of 99. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
It looks like lifelong criminal, tRump, has finally been convicted of a crime. He will forever be a felon until a future Republican governor of New York pardons him. He won’t serve any time in prison but the humiliation (as much as he says it doesn’t bother him because it is “fake”) will likely be more painful than sleeping on a cot in a prison cell. The jury was quick and unequivocal; it was a good day for justice. While the Georgia conviction, which will never happen now, would have been more satisfying and the federal crimes would have been more likely to bar him from future office (you know he will file to run in 2028 after he loses in November), these will have to do for now. I hope that the lamestream media doesn’t brush the charges aside. I want to see “convicted felon Donald J. Trump” in news accounts discussing the Republican presidential nominee.
Today is the last day of May so promised May projects need to get finished or emails sent with explanations and new target dates. I had a major project inserted into my schedule yesterday that threw everything off so it will be a challenge to get everything finished. I can fluff some things into the weekend and call them May 32nd and May 33rd and hope no one notices! Anyway, my main goal today is to get a haircut as it has been bugging me for about a week.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. On my way to Saturday workout. I need to set a reminder for next summer to not sign up for this again, I miss my lazy Saturdays. I love my coach and I’m grateful, but I liked sleeping in.
Saturday Meese. Am going to get some gardening done today – yay!
Puerto Rico
Love those ‘toons, Dee, thanks! I wish my friend were still alive. How she would have laughed!
It’s 66 heading for 83 and overcast. It’s supposed to clear off in a bit and I certainly hope it does. The widget is showing me 10 solid days of clouds to start June. At least there’s “afternoon sun” on Thursday so I guess that’s the day I’ll do laundry. Anyway we wrapped May up with 461 KWHs. Not great, something like 7th place, but it certainly could have been a lot worse. The best June we’ve ever done is 575 KWHs so that’s the target. The “at least” is anything over 500. The only June that didn’t get at least 500 was 2017 when something that hadn’t been installed correctly in 2014 finally broke & I lost almost 10 production days. Anyway, we shall see what we shall see.
Talked to Fineena for a few minutes last night. The Resident at Matthews has not quite come out and said “die & stop bothering me” but he’s come close. Yesterday Fineena had “a talk” with him and told him quite firmly that she has no intension of dying immediately and the expected him to be her advocate on that. She said she doesn’t think anybody’s ever talked to him like that before because he mostly just stood there with his mouth hanging open. Otherwise everything’s still up in the air. She does appreciate folks calling and checking in with/up on her. Basically showing her that somebody cares.
Basket’s still at the festival. Today’s the last day. He should be back here sometime tomorrow afternoon and then leave for Memphis & his plane home on Monday morning. Meanwhile I’ve got stuff to boost. Holding the Good Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, meeses! Saturday …
It is 64 degrees in Tucson ???? with an expected daytime high of 99. Sunny skies are in the forecast. I was a little late getting to my deck for my early morning breath of fresh air and the sun was a laser beam. I am usually out there before the sun comes up to either look at the stars or to watch the dawn light. I need to do that when I start my coffee, not after I start projects and get sidetracked. Ouch!
Interesting commentary, post-conviction, on tRump. Karl Rove – who we know is math challenged so take this with a grain of salt – says that the conviction could impact tRump’s chances in the swing states of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennysylvania where the Trump+ margins would disappear because they are so thin:
Please please, let this be true. I hope that there are still some Republicans who don’t think that falsifying business records to hide a payment to a porn star in order to deceive the electorate is not okay. I guess we will find out.
I have some queued up projects that I need to get to although things are less urgent because clients aren’t working today and I have unfettered access to their computers. I don’t want to wait until Sunday and realize I don’t have enough time to do everything I need to do.
See all y’all later!
Good beautiful Saturday morning, Meese! Oh, it’s so lovely—69 F. now, going up to 81 F., not too much wind, blue sky with hazy wisps of white cloud, the lot! I just went to Trader Joe’s on a Saturday. Luckily, it was so early the aisles weren’t jam-packed. They didn’t have any vanilla ice cream! This is the kind of thing that constitutes a crisis for spoiled old people. Never mind, I’ll think of something.
Yesterday was payday for us, so Dearly and I jumped into the car and did lots of errands. By the time we came home we had a very late lunch and were so exhausted we just vege’d until dinner. Then we went to a free concert outside in the courtyard where I used to take Monty. A dear man—Mike the Musician, the same one who provided the music for “Oklahoma!”—played patriotic songs for us and Rose of the Beautiful Voice sang. She was professionally trained years ago. She is amazing. So is he. We’re lucky to have talented residents sharing their gifts.
Thursday evening, while I was at the cafe in the main clubhouse picking up dinner, Darling Niece texted me that Thing was guilty on all 34 counts. I couldn’t stop smiling! As I walked down the hall, I saw others looking at their phones and grinning. At last! I’ve got to where I simply cannot read or watch the news, with stupid journos and pundits taking it as a done deal that Thing has won the election already, and will be lumbering into the White House in January or whatever. The ohly thig that comforts me is that the media are so often wrong: look how wrong they were about the recent election that Angela Alsbrooks won.
Had a marvelous lunch with the incoming resident. We have so much in common! We showed each other pictures of our grandchildren. She’s worried that her husband wouldn’t “have enough activities” to keep him busy if they move here. Fer gawd’s sake! There are two Olympic-sized swimming pools, bocce (whatever that is), pickleball, bicycling, hiking, walking, all kinds of aerobics (karate, t’ai chi). What more could a person want? There are guys who spend whole days at a nearby golf course too. I did tell her that if she moves here and starts up the third writers’ group, I’ll help her in the initial stages.
Now that Dearly and I have acquired some plants, we can tidy up the porch and sit out there. I’m going to get my exercise done this morning so I can and edit the whole afternoon. Tonight I’m going to a movie at the theatre, “Are you there, God? It’s me, Margaret.” I’ve always wanted to see that.
I’ll call Fineena this afternoon while I’m awake. Can’t do it this evening, obviously.
That’s enough from me! Wishing a nice, restful day to all at the Pond!
