Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …
Morning low of 71 degrees in the Desert Southwest ???? with an expected daytime high of 105. Sunny skies are in the forecast.
Have a great day, all y’alls!!
Good morning. Got my tea brewing, watching the news — local news is about the heat and precautions to take. Last night’s music diary was interesting, one of my comments was about how ironic it was I was hearing so much new-to-me music in a diary about songs I listen to on repeat.
good morning Meese! Posted
It’s 79 heading for 91 and a heat index of only 95. Sunny so far. Yesterday we generated 20.35 KWHs and the m-t-d at 257.25 is on track for 510 and gaining ground. Thank heavens. The A/C kicked on at 11:35 yesterday morning and quite probably will again today.
Talked to Fineena last night. She says the cell service at Matthews is iffy. That sometimes she can’t pick up a call and sometimes she can’t even call out. She’s surprised I reach her as often as I do. She’s supposed to see her oncologist on Tuesday. That’s about all the news she had.
Opened the house at 2:30 AM, got up at dawn and did my usual stuff plus Sunday chores, then closed up the house a few minutes before 8. Turned on the A/C. At least it hasn’t kicked on yet. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning. Did my walk/run. It’s 79 degrees already. Blech. There’s a tropical system in Central America that, if it goes the right direction, might give us some rain & cooler temps. In the office. Glad I’m using their a/c today.
Good morning, meeses! Monday …
It is 71 degrees in Tucson ???? with an expected daytime high of 102. Sunny skies are in the forecast. Today our daylight will be 14h 15m and we will add one more minute on Wednesday, the day before the Solstice, and then take that minute away a week from today. Around these parts, we celebrate the leaving of the sunlight. We love the sun and miss her when there are clouds but it can be a challenge to deal with the heat.
The Sunday Milwaukee Journal Sentinel had a full page ad by the Biden campaign touting the investments the Biden Harris Administration made in Milwaukee and reminding everyone that tRump thinks Milwaukee is a “horrible city.” I found it odd that the Republican Party was being so blatantly racist when they claim to be courting the Black male vote in urban areas. I guess just like there are Latinos in Florida who embrace a party that hates Latinos, there will be Black people in Milwaukee who love a guy who calls their city trash. I personally will never understand them.
I saw a ridiculous article that suggested that Glenn Youngkin was a possible vice presidential pick. Does anyone really think that tRump would pick a guy who is taller than him – highlighting his puniness? It is all about optics and whoever he picks will be vetted entirely on how they look standing next to him.
I have a very busy week ahead and need to get started on it.
See all y’all later!
It’s 77 going to 90 heat index 95 (it’ll probably be higher) and sunny. Yesterday we generated 19.7 KWHs and the m-t-d at 276.96 is still on track for 510 and gaining ground. Thank heavens as I’m running the A/C now. So far generation is keeping up with usage.
Yesterday I had a nice visit with my son. His trip to IN to visit to his dad’s went well as did the visit itself but his “new” motorcycle started giving him trouble on the way home. That meant an extra night on the road and about $500 he hadn’t planned on spending. He hasn’t had a chance to get it to a motorcycle mechanic yet. We’re all hoping it’s something easy and cheap to fix. I also put flea goo on the cats, a stressful and time consuming (because actually catching the twins) activity. By then it was too late to call Fineena. I’ll try tonight.
Got milk this morning while it was still relatively cool, changed the HVAC filters, and closed up the house. All by 7:30. LOL. Treadmill, breakfast, and now off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Monday Meese. Not looking forward to this weeks heatwave here – temps in upper 90’s. Worrying about friends/family in Puerto Rico with all the power outages.
Tuesday Meese. We are under a heat advisory here in Kingston. “Heat index values of 95 to 104 degrees”
Puerto Rico
“Another active day is expected due to the presence of a trough at high levels and humidity from a tropical wave approaching the region. Downpours and thunderstorms are expected, resulting in urban flooding, as well as surges across river basins.”
I was stunned to see the heat wave in the Northeast reaching such high temperatures and going all the way up into Vermont and Maine! I hope it is not a sign of a hot summer. A lot of people in the more northern parts of the country don’t have central air in their homes. I remember years ago that it was unheard of in Wisconsin for homes to have a/c. Now it is a necessity because the 90s and 100s aren’t just one off, they stick around for days.
I hope you can stay cool!
We don’t have ac – because we are both allergic to it – have to make do with lots of fans – we set some up on the floor to keep the doggies cool.
Stay kewl, Dee!
Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …
It is 68 degrees in Tucson ???? with an expected daytime high of 99. Sunny skies are in the forecast. Tomorrow we will have scorchingly hot temperatures for three days and then the forecast calls for monsoonal rains. I hope so! Last year’s monsoon was substandard and we did not have enough rain or cooldowns. I saw the waxing moon in the Southwest sky this morning on my early morning dog walkabout – she will be full on Solstice.
I have appointments this morning and hard deadlines ahead of me so I won’t linger. One news headline declared that the majority of Hispanics are in favor of tRump’s mass deportation. Goddess help us! We have a ginormous “lack of imagination” crisis! Why do Hispanic citizens (and resident aliens) think that their papers will protect them from what will happen when the word is given to “round up all the brown people!” Dangerously stupid and short-sighted. Clearly there are too many people in the “Leopards Eating People’s Faces Party“.
See all y’all later!
The Latino citizens & legal aliens I’ve talked to have bought the Rs mythology that they are paid crap and treated like crap because of those who aren’t here legally (instead of the truth – they’re treated like crap because they aren’t male WASPs). Unfortunately most of them (again the ones I’ve talked to, I’m generalizing here) identify as white and at least middle income/status and see those who are not here legally as being “of color” and of the peonage (or else they’d have the money to come in legally). Colorism is as bad as white supremacy. sigh.
Yes. Far too many have bought the hype – and also look down on their brethren who are darker complexioned and not white presenting
Good morning. Slept in, will go to the gym this afternoon. Savoring my wfh day. We might get some rain later in the week, if we’re lucky.
It’s 74 heating for 85 heat index 90 and sunny. Please may it stay that way. We only generate 16.1 KWHs yesterday, not enough to cover A/C usage, and the m-t-d at 293 while still on track for 510 lost ground.
I had a brief chat with Fineena last night. She sees her oncologist today and if the tests come back clear (last time they showed that very severe UTI that sent her immediately to hospital for a week’s worth of IV antibiotics) she’ll start treatment for the cancer. She’s a little concerned about possible chemo side effects but mostly happy and excited to finally start the fight. Even if this is what takes her down, she wants to go down swinging.
Yard done yesterday (a day early) so I won’t be standing in ankle high grass when I hang out my clothes shortly. The washer’s almost done. I’ll get my boosting day started at Spoutible and bluesky as usual but deal with laundry before I get to Xitter. Hope my hands do better today than yesterday. Holding the Good Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good Tuesday morning, Meese! Just flying in to say hello, it’s 74 F. in Ashburned, and will get up to 93 F. We’re already 2 inches under normal rainfall for the year to date.
We voted at 7 a.m. and now I must get ready to go to Costco to get the real hearing aids fitted. He’d better adjust my phone so I can use it! With these “loaner” hearing aids, I can hear that a call is coming in, I just can’t hear the person speaking. Very awkward. This afternoon I get to stand outside the polls for two hours in the heat, handing out Jennifer Boysko literature.
Still getting ready for the solstice ritual. Have to memorize the thing before Thursday. Wishing all at the Pond a good day!
Good morning, 50 and mostly cloudy in Bellingham today. Our family Dad’s Day lunch on Sunday was fun but more work than I thought it would be so I have been very tired. Thanks to the rain we were indoors and out but that was ok. I need to work at my desk today and then I’ll be able to think about the garden again. Best wishes to all.
Juneteenth Wednesday Meese.
RIP Willie Mays.
Good morning. Well, we’re not going to get as much rain as they’d hoped. Maybe ½ inch, which would still be welcomed but still wish that tropical storm had hit a little different. One more wfh day, I’ll be able to move my mint out to catch some rainwater when it starts.
It’s 71 heading for 90, heat index 95, and cloudy. Sigh. Yesterday we generated 19.4 KWHs and the m-t-d at 312.5 is still on track for 510. Which will barely cover “normal” A/C use. Which we’re getting right now but shouldn’t be until next month. If this turns out to be a Very Hot Summer, well, 14 years ago the summer that killed my pine tree & my rosemary bush used so much A/C that I averaged 30 KWHs/day usage. And that’s more than my system is capable of producing no matter how sunny the days might be.
I’ve got to find some way of keeping Cloud in the house when I take my laundry out. Yesterday ended with an emergency visit to the vet because he wouldn’t stop panting and grooming/chewing at his pads. The vet & I hope it’s just that there’s something out there he walked on/through that he reacts to. She gave him antihistamine & steroid shots and said to call/bring him back if he wasn’t better by morning. Which he is. But that was a jolt I didn’t need on top of Fineena’s Very Bad News. She called yesterday afternoon while she was at her oncologist’s. She told me he said he was willing to start the chemo (which she insisted he do) but her prognosis was “any day now to 5 weeks max” and she might not want to deal with the side effects for that. Basically she may not make it to her 70th birthday (July 22nd).
I think I can leave the house open for another hour so I’ll get started on my boosting day. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
That’s awful about Fineena. Many people who have been on chemo for cancers, once they get the prognosis that “it won’t be able to stop the growth and you will die soon”, opt to not continue. From what I understand it is horrible to go through. That said, she has had such terrible care and advice, I am not sure I would believe the prognosis! I hope she has time to calmly decide what is best for her and ease into what comes next.
Truly. On the prognosis, care, & advice Fineena’s definitely not getting dependable anything. All we can do is send Energy for her and the Universe to use, whichever/however way it goes.
Good morning, meeses! Wednesday, Juneteenth Day …
It is 68 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 100. Sunny skies are in the forecast. The daylight part of Summer Solstice for us starts today with sunrise at 5:17am, sunset at 7:33pm and a day length of 14 hours and 16 minutes. That will hold for 4 more days than we lose a minute.
In honor of Juneteenth, a reminder that Confederate States did not want to free the slaves and that Texas denied enslaved people their rights for as long as possible, I will avoid the news. There is no lipstick that will beautify this pig or the terrible hate-state that a no-filters Texas wrapped up in MAGAtism has become.
See all y’all later!
Good morning. After yesterday’s tough workout (30 minutes on the treadmill followed by weights), I just walked this morning. Hoped the rain would cool things off, but no such luck. I have a weird cyst on my leg, got to call the doc when they open.
It’s 71 heading for 90 heat index 95 and mostly sunny at the moment. Yesterday we only generated 12.7 KWHs and the m-t-d at 325.2 is barely still on track for 510. I am not happy about the combination of heat & clouds this summer. Much good that does me.
I talked to Fineena yesterday afternoon. I guess the only news is that she hasn’t had any noticeable side effects from the chemo. That and she flat out told the Matthews staff that she’s not a 3 year old, she not only doesn’t need to have her pills mixed with applesauce it trips her gag reflex, and that the problem she has with taken them is that they’re too big. All she needs is to have them broken into thirds and to be left alone so she can take them. That counts as good news.
I’ve got errands to run and I need to do them as soon as morning traffic slows down because I don’t have working A/C in my car. I’ve already got heat rash. I don’t need any more. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
