Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: July 7th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good morning. Just checking in before my Saturday workout group. I’ve appreciated the free coaching, but I’m looking forward to this being over. Going to try to just run for as long as I can, I still want to see if I can do a whole mile next week.

  2. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 78 degrees in Tucson ???? with an expected daytime high of 106. Sunny skies in the morning with clouds and a slight chance for rain. Tomorrow we will enter a period of monsoonal rain which is expected to cool us down to more typical July temperatures for at least a week.

    I am not sure how so many Democratic Party “elites” got so stupid. Maybe they have always been stupid and were never emboldened enough to share it with the world. The New York Times and the Washington Post encouraging them to blow up our nomination process because they have papers to sell has apparently made them lose their minds. There is nothing wrong with Joe Biden being our nominee that would make it legal or sensible to replace him and vote for a different nominee at the convention. It already required special legislation in some states to get our ticket on the November ballot because our convention is so late – any changes would likely have to be litigated with the Supreme Court having to get involved. Anyone who wants that needs a mental health exam and a legal guardian appointed to help them dress in the morning. We go with the Joe who got us here and let the chips fall where they may. A president does not run the country alone, he has a team of people in place, cabinet members and advisors – he will do just fine. I consider it unlikely that he will finish a second term but I do think that our best bet to block tRump and Project 2025 is with Biden being elected to that second term. It is going to suck to be a pragmatic Democrat until August 19th-22nd when our nominee is voted in and accepts the nomination.

    I need to take my walk before it heats up. See all y’all later!

  3. It’s 78 heading for 94 heat index 100 and sunny. Yes, of course the house is closed up. I was able to have it open from 12:45 to 7:15 (when I got back from getting milk) so that was good. In that I could have it open at all. 18th day of no electricity generation. And no clue whatsoever when the Ozark Solar guy will be able to get to me. Even then, I won’t get power back. Not with a dead inverter. All that happens when he gets here is he does the on-site inspection and tests to convince SolarEdge the inverter IS dead. Then we still have to wait for them to send a new one. And for the Ozark Solar guy to find another spot of time to install it. Sigh.

    But I do have power from SWEPCO and internet from AT & T so I can do my boosting. So I will. Holding the Good/Healing Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  4. Good Saturday morning, Meese! My Australian sister-in-law wrote this morning that the newspapers over there are full of our election and everyone is wondering whether Defeated Former Guy is going to win. Will have to write this morning and reassure her.

    Still can’t listen to the news or read any of the news pooper except the Metro section because I like to check on the amount of rainfall, the time of sunset, and the allergens to watch out for. Can’t cancel our sub because my soon-to-be 94-years-old Hubby likes to do the crossword and read the op-eds. He’s much more phlegmatic than I: nothing seems to faze him.

    A nice-looking day is dawning. This morning, must write to my sister-in-law, go to the gym, pick up dinner (Mandarin Salad), and attend a Drama Club meeting at 2. This one will be about costume design.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond. I think of Fineena at intervals during the day and hope she’s at peace now.

  5. Good morning, 59 and sunny in Bellingham today. It was good to be back in the PT clinic with Keith again. He has identified several areas in my spine and neck that he can work with so I’ve got a new round of exercises to do at home and appointments scheduled through Aug. I’m very grateful to have his assistance.

    Yesterday afternoon was very pleasant. Our son was working here so I enjoyed visiting with him while he worked and I watered the garden. And as a bonus I had lots of Elsa time. I’ve got a quiet day ahead with some time in the garden and in my neglected sewing room. Best wishes to all.
