Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: July 14th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

It is 81 degrees in Tucson ???? with an expected daytime high of 104. Sunny skies this morning with a chance for afternoon or evening storms. Yesterday we had about a 20 minute storm that included some very loud thunder. It looks like the extremely high heat will be replaced by ordinary high heat for the near future. This is what was missing last summer – the monsoon was very late and very short and June, July and August were brutishly hot.

To no one’s surprise, after the New York Times’ relentless drumbeat to push Joe Biden out of the race appears to be working, they are now doing hit pieces on Kamala Harris’ chances. Who the hell do they want the nominee to be, Nate Silver? The media is the problem and Democrats would do well to ignore them and forge ahead with a Biden nomination. The tRump campaign is touting fake hillbilly JD Vance as the path to winning Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan. I hope the local media cracks him open like a rotten nut and exposes who he really works for and what his end game is. Do they really want to support a ticket that believes that women should stay in abusive marriages, that they should carry the spawn of their rapists to term, who think that we should end Social Security and Medicare, and who loudly and proudly states “why do we care what happens to Ukraine”? When the national press is done with their post-RNC tongue baths, I hope that enough local newspapers are interested in telling the truth about Vance and his mentally unstable boss.

I need to take my walk before it heats up.

    See all y’all later!

  2. Good Saturday morning, Meese! It’s 80 F. in Ashburger with ugly skies again. There is just enough cloud cover to keep me from seeing the almost-full “Buck Moon” (so called because deer antlers are at their “deeriest” just now). Y’all will have to enjoy the sight of Her in all Her fullness tomorrow, when we are supposed to have thunderstorms. Ordinarily I’d be delighted with the thunderstorms, but everyone here knows how upset I get when I don’t get to bow to Her when She’s in sight.

Enough about that. I’m hoping for a really dull day of housework, laundry, and writing. Gad, we’re having a birthday party a week from tomorrow and nothing’s done! Will have to get right on it.

Need to do some writing also, and studying the script for “Risque Rendezvous.” A lot of the laughs depend on perfect timing. Yesterday I took my black hat with face veil upstairs to a neighbor who does costumes for the Drama Club, and she had some terrific ideas about it. She also showed me how to place it correctly on my head. So now it is only to wait until my fellow actor returns from yet another vacation so we can rehearse.

Wishing a good day to all at the Pond, a GREAT DAY to Biden and Co., and a lousy day to Guyliner and Defeated Former Guy. (Yes, I am a Nasty Woman.)

    • I saw the fullish moon last night at about 9pm as she emerged from the clouds to the ESE over the mountains. She will be full here at 3:17am Sunday morning but not in a place where I can see her. I will make a point of watching for her around 8:30pm or so as she clears the mountains at what should be 99% illumination. We might have cloud cover so it is not a certainty.

  3. Oh, and for Aji’s people this is “Miin Giizis” the Blueberry Moon.

    • We don’t have blueberries here. The only significant thing happening with plants and growth is that the mesquite trees are dropping their pods and covering everything with their crunchy husks.

  4. Good morning, 64 and sunny outside my windows today. Erica and her family arrive today so the house will soon be full of people and dogs again. We have 6 family dogs now are some of them can’t be with all of them but I think we have it sorted out. RonK is making pulled pork sandwiches and potato salad for dinner so whenever they arrive food will be ready. I’ve got brownies to bake, a few flowers to arrange and some patio cleanup to do so we can eat outside if we decide to. As always, my best wishes to all.
