Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: July 21st

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good Saturday afternoon, Meese! Have been running around like crazy all day, buying birthday stuff, picking up the cake, getting Moah Beah for tomorrow’s party, and so on. Went to Trader Joe’s before breakfast to get eggs and other things. Daughter is driving down from Lenox, MA, and has just texted to say she won’t make it here in time for dinner, as she has only just arrived in New Jersey. She’ll have to stop twice more before she gets here to charge her car.

We’re celebrating three birthdays tomorrow: Little Ethan, who will be 9 years old on July 30; Daughter, who will be 62 on August 1; and Dearly, who will be 94 but doesn’t want that mentioned, on August 13. The only date that most could make it is tomorrow, so I reserved the party room here at The Home. Younger Son is taking Karl, aged 10, to Japan on August 4.

I had an awful night last night despite all my sleep precautions. I think we’ll just go to dinner at the usual appalling hour of 5 p.m., I’ll try to go for a walk afterwards, and tomorrow I can start cleaning up again. It has been unbelievably gorgeous today, with blue skies, puffy white clouds, and humidity so low we’ve been able to leave the porch door open. Right now it’s 84 F., but you wouldn’t know it.

So happy about all the news re Kamala’s campaign! Did y’all here that White House Dudes for Kamala will hold their call on Monday and that Pete Buttigieg will join? I know he can’t be Veep, obviously, but I do love the way he skewers the opposition. He really is smart. While we’re on the subject, Jan, what do you have against Gavin Newsom? Not that I particularly want him for Veep, but I always thought he was a good guy.

Wishing Emma a lovely birthday party tonight! I hired Younger Son to do the catering and Nora is doing the playlist.

Wishing a good evening to all at the Pond.
