Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: August 4th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …

    Morning low of 79 degrees in the Desert Southwest ???? with an expected daytime high of 104. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast – slight chance for afternoon and evening rain.

    Have a great day, all y’alls!!

    • I saw a Seniors for Kamala organizing call posted somewhere. It is great to see the enthusiasm – I hope it is sustainable for the next 90 some days. There are bound to be ups and down, for example the VP selection is certain to displease some. It will be good to get that done so we can move past it quickly.

      Today, the USA Womens Basketball Team plays Germany in Pool Play at 8:15 MST. It will probably be the A’ja and Stewy show again! I was pleased to see the 3×3 team make it out of pool play with a spot in the quarterfinals after going 3 for 3 following their abysmal start. It is a crazy game but I support it because it gives more women a chance to play for gold and maybe play professionally this fall.

  2. Black Music Sunday posted

  3. Good morning. Got my tea steeping, enjoying the smell. I was about to say that I did very little yesterday, but then I thought about it: groceries, 2 loads of laundry, emptied & reloaded the dishwasher…. So, I did okay yesterday. Oh, the Olympic men’s road race — the guy who won wasn’t who I was cheering for (that was the Irish rider who was off the front by himself for a looooong time). But: he was in a terrible crash in April, had to have surgery on his shoulder. This summer he podiumed in the Tour de France, and is the first man ever to win gold in the men’s time trial and road race. So that’s cool.

  4. It’s 75 and I just closed up the house. At least I was able to have it open for a good 8 hours. Got my Sunday cleaning chores done. The thing I love about summer is that my hands and feet aren’t cold. The stiffness and tremors in my hands are less and they don’t ache at all. The thing I hate about summer is bugs. If they’d just stay out of my house and off my body I wouldn’t because they’re a necessary part of the Circle of Life. But. . . everything else is just Life being Life, in all Its seasons.

    If I didn’t know my family – and some of my friends – only communicate when something’s wrong (and assume I know they’re OK otherwise) I’d be worried. I haven’t heard from any of them since Mothers’ Day. LOL. Oh well. Time to get to my boosting chores. Holding the Good/Healing Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  5. Good Sunday morning, Moosekind! Still feeling under the weather. Today I experienced tremendous vertigo when I had to get up in the early hours, and again when I woke up. Just duck-duck-go’d it and found there is nothing one can do about it. It comes on very suddenly and leaves just as suddenly. When it first appeared in 2014, I consulted my doctor at the time, who said just put up with it until it goes.

    Meanwhile, the headache and lack of appetite continue. Oh, this is boring, I’ll talk about something else. Yesterday a writer friend told me that a Witch who has self-published a trilogy is looking for a proofreader before the trilogy goes into redesign. I’d be pleased to take it on. I can get it done by early October, I’m sure.

    Can’t wait to see whom Kamala chooses as Veep! Like Jan, I’m not enthusiastic about Walz, although I’m sure he’s a very nice man. I like Andy the best, but it’s not up to me, is it? I’m sure she’ll choose the best human for herself and for the country. (I’d LOVE to have Buttigieg, but we can’t have two unusual candidates on the same ticket.)

    The weather can’t make up its mind. At the moment it’s simply lovely and only 79 F. after the huge rainstorm we received yesterday. The high will be 88 F.

    I’m going to rest for a while. Have a nail appointment this afternoon and Meese, they are going to be painted PURPLE! I’m going to break out!

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and a FABULOUS day to Madame Vice President, the Second Gentleman, and our wonderful President!

    • Vertigo is awful. I had a bout of it quite a few years ago and realized it was from getting up out of my bed too quickly. I modified my “launch angle” and instead of bolting straight up, I laid on my side and rolled gently off the bed. That solved my problem. I have still had it a few times since then but mostly related to moving my head too quickly. I can usually get it to go away by lying still and cursing (actually, I made up the cursing part – the cursing does NOT help).

  6. Happy Monday. I got my walk in, with some running. My water heater is broken, but it’s so hot that even a “cold” water shower isn’t actually cold. I’ll have to find out how much replacing it will be. Sigh. Anyway, hi.

    • {{{anotherdemocrat}}} It’s always something, isn’t it. Hope it’s not too expensive to replace. Healing Energy & Moar {{{HUGS}}}

  7. Good morning, meeses! Monday …

    It is 79 degrees in Tucson ???? with an expected daytime high of 104. There are clouds over the mountains that are expected to clear. Slight chance of rain this afternoon. Yesterday we had rain in a few areas in the valley but not here.

    Well, today the VP candidate will be announced. We have to put our faith in Kamala and the team she has assembled to understand, first, what it takes to win, and second, who will be suited to fill the role that she knows so well. The goal has to first be “do no harm” and the only picks that I think are safe picks are Beshear or Kelly. Kelly has a better biography and brings the foreign policy chops as well as having won independent voters in a red state once and a reddish state two years later. Shapiro is the wrong pick for the current Middle East situation. Bernie Sanders thinks that a person from California needs Walz, a progressive from a blue state, to “beef up” her progressive credentials. Puh-lease! The ads here are already touting Kamala as a “San Francisco liberal” making sure that photos of her include photos of Nancy Pelosi when she was Speaker. And really, we do NOT need Freaking Bernie’s advice – his 2016 pissiness gave us Gorsucks, Keggernaugh and Mrs. Jesse Barrett which ended women’s bodily autonomy and gave tRump immunity from his crimes. He has never cared about women and he can take his opinions and endorsements and shove them where the sun doesn’t shine.

    I was low energy this weekend and mainly watched the Olympics. The USA Women’s Basketball team won and advanced to the quarterfinals to play Nigeria on the 7th. They started out slow and the German team was aggressive but eventually our deep bench wore them out. I was thinking that with our reserve players, we could put together 3 teams which would all be contenders – the bench scored 52 points compared to 14 for the Germans.

    See all y’all later!

  8. It’s 72 heading for 96, heat index 98, and sunny. Sure would have been lovely generating weather these last weeks. IF I had a working PV system. Haven’t heard from SolarEdge. I’m giving them until Wednesday – one full week from when I contacted them – before I take the further steps I hope I don’t have to take.

    Sinusitis night. For some reason spent the waking hours thinking of the Scott Joplin Festival. Wishing I could have thought of a safe way to have gone with basket this year. Wishing I could think of a safe way to go with him next year. Well, I’ve still got a bunch of months to think about it in. It’s not until end of May. Meanwhile, time to be about my boosting. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  9. Good Monday morning, Moosekind. It’s 82 F. on a lovely, sunny morning, heading toward a high of 95 F. Not much to say today other than the fact I had a disturbed night, and that I really need to get on the treadmill at the gym, even if I only walk at 2 mph. The peaches I bought at Harris Teeter on Saturday are awful, even though I picked them as carefully as I could.

    There are so many things to do, and all too little energy to do it with! Sorry about people’s household mechanics going so wrong.

    Tim Walz looks old, as Jan says. Wasn’t “old” their complaint about Biden? Y’know, I’m going to enjoy the thought of his being at home in Delaware, relaxing and playing with his German Shepherds. He deserves a nice rest after all he’s done for us.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

    • I don’t want to be agist but if “the guy looks old” is what drove Joe Biden out of the race, why would you make Tim Walz, who looks like a grampa, one of the faces of the ticket? I want a clear image of “vibrant and young” to counter a doddering tRump.

  10. Good morning, 61 and sunny in Bellingham today. We enjoyed a carnitas taco dinner on the patio last evening, then watched The House of The Dragons, then filled our primary ballots while seated at the kitchen eating blueberry pie. A very civilized summer Sunday! I’ll be so relieved when this election is over.

    Mundane Monday awaits with desk work this morning and the dentist this afternoon. Best wishes to all.

  11. Tuesday Meese. The weather here has cooled off. Going to be in the 70’s for the rest of the week, with rain.

    Puerto Rico

  12. Good morning. Went to the gym & did my cardio. Wfh today, waiting for my astronomy show to come on. Glad I’m home today, so I can let out a whoop when Kamala announces her VP choice.

  13. Good Tuesday morning, Meese, and we’re going to do the WALZ! When three SUVs were seen leaving his house yesterday, and Josh Shapiro was spotted playing basketball with his son after work, I figured it would be Walz.

    One naturally respects Kamala’s reasons, but I agree with Jan. If “old” was what drove Biden out, why pick an old-looking white guy? He is a good man, that much is clear. As one of my acquaintances remarked, I would crawl naked coated in Wesson oil over broken glass to vote for Kamala, so it doesn’t much matter who she picks for Veep. Have you all seen the very cute tee-shirt design with a cat-faced ciomma followed by a “la”? The ingenuity of our folk artists never ceases to amaze.
    It’s a gorgeous morning but it’ll cloud up this afternoon. Right now in Ashburned-Under-Severe-Drought it’s 82 blinking degrees F., going up to 95 F. “They” are cheerily predicting 5 inches of rain on Friday (it’ll never happen in Ashburn), because of Debby. I thought she made snack cakes.

    Our Blue Ridge Writers anthology is about to go to print; the Market Street Writers anthology has just come out, and I have a story in that; I’m up for consideration for a free-lance editing job that will keep me off the streets and out of the pool halls for the month of September (note to self–find out how to do “track changes” in Word 365); and Thursday night I’m going to the cast call of the Drama Club. Not that I want to try out for a part, I just want to see who’s there. Next week I have to be a judge August 12 and August 14. Dearly’s birthday is the 13th, so Elder Son and family may come over for dinner.

    Younger Son and young Karl are in Tokyo, presumably recovering from jet lag. Darling Niece and family are back from a month in California, and still not over their jet lag after being home for a whole week; and Darling Daughter has just done another photoessay on Facebook about a hike in “the Cobbles” with their two little dogs. She loves living in Massachusetts, and so does Sweet Son-in-law.

    That’s enough from me. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and a good day to Madame Vice President Harris, Governor Walz, and President Biden.

  14. Already 80 heading for 99, heat index 105. Or so. I managed to have the house open from 2 am to 8 am. It helps. Still haven’t heard from SolarEdge. Well, they have until tomorrow. Whether or not a fraud claim can be filed quickly I don’t know. But Xitter blast will happen along with my daily Vieques no hospital count and needs thread.

    Yesterday my local friend called. She’s been so busy between office stuff and family stuff we haven’t seen each other in over 2 months. She’s coming Saturday morning and we’re going to visit some thrift shops then get an ice cream a Braum’s while we catch up. That will be very nice.

    I went out and got milk (& cheese) this morning while it was still relatively cool. I could have put it off another day but it had been over a week, almost 2, since I’d started the car and I was getting nervous about that. Anyway, time to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  15. Good morning, 61 and cloudy in Bellingham today. I have a hair appointment this morning and after I hope to go to a garden shop for a few replacement flowers. So relieved the VEEP choice is made, now to win the election! Best wishes to all.

  16. Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …

    Quick check-in, watching USA Soccer.

    Walz is fine – he will not scare anyone!!

  17. Just got copied in on the email from SolarEdge to the installer assuring him they didn’t mean to imply they weren’t going to honor the warranty and replace the inverter. The replacement has been approved. We’re waiting now for a shipping date. If that doesn’t happen by next week Wednesday I’ll still file a charge against them and put them on blast. But for now I’m calling it a YAY!
