Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: August 11th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good Friday morning, Moosekind! I realize there’s a lot going on, so I’ll be quick. It’s 83 F. at 12:55 p.m., going up to 87 F. The sky is covered with a white haze—will we get rain? Most likely not, but stay tuned.

Getting very nervous about the play tomorrow. I think Leading Man is p.o.’d because we were refused permission to do the play at the beginning of the meeting, rather than at the end. I’ve asked someone to video it for me, and S., one of my best friends here, is attending, so I’m happy about that.

Dearly has fallen asleep. I’ll have to make his lunch and leave it. I want to go to the gym because I KNOW I won’t get a chance to go tomorrow.

Wishing a good day to all at the Pond! Will pray for Aji’s grandson.

  2. Site move completed and speed is amazing! We went from a Grade of D to a Grade of B.

I did not have to log back in – only the databases were moved so the local files will still remember your passwords.

    Thanks for your patience!!

  3. 69 here in Kingston, going up to 81 with rain. Today is my first time with the new day/time-slot for Caribbean Matters (9AM EDT Saturdays). Will see how it goes.

  4. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

It is 79 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 102. Mostly sunny skies with a chance for rain around mid-day.

The mainstream media is so predictable. Kamala comes out with her economic plan and they pan it as “light on specifics” – as if tRump’s plans, which stop at “give more tax breaks to myself” was surely written by a nobel laureate in economics. Sheesh. I will continue ignoring the bulk of the news and concentrate only on the feel good – like Kamala asking Tim Walz in a teasing voice, when he said he made “white guy tacos”, if that meant he used mayonnaise and tuna. That is hilarious not a sign of anti-white racism! The MAGAts are so fragile. Digby reports on it.

I have a long list of things I need to do in the quiet of a weekend morning so I best get to them.

    See all y’all later!

  5. Good morning. Still savoring having my Saturday mornings back, though I do have to be sure I get to the gym this afternoon. Our highs are in the low 100s, normal for this time of year. I see tfg has come up with a silly word for Harris’ economic proposals. Because he can’t fight the substance, at least not to normal people — he certainly can to his billionaire friends. My theory on the billionaires is they’ve seen the dystopian movies and think the corporations are the heroes. Like in Total Recall, where there was something like surge pricing for oxygen — they think that’s a good thing.

  6. Good Saturday morning, Meese! ‘Tis dark outside at 8:31 a.m., with a sky full of menacing-looking clouds. We’ll see what happens. It’s 75 F. now, going up to 85 F.

Talked to our Bfitz on the phone last night and she told me what to do for my voice! I drank the lemon juice and water and mah Goddess, my voice is already better this morning. I’ll drink some more at 11:30, so it’ll have time to work before rehearsal at 1 p.m. and the actual performance at 2:55 p.m.

Lawks, if I can get through this, I can cope with anything. I do hope the audience laughs and doesn’t sit in stunned, horrified silence when I seize the end of Leading Man’s tie and lead him off stage right. At Dress Rehearsal he wore a navy blue blazer, which made me wonder if he’s a Republican. Oh, well, that won’t affect the play.

Off to get ready, Meese, must get my hair done! Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

  7. It’s 70 at the moment but it’ll start moving up fast now the rain has stopped. The widget didn’t say so but the rain moved in just after dark and dropped the temps almost 20 degrees in less than half an hour. I opened up everything but the west windows before lights out. The rain just stopped and the sky is bluing up rapidly. Today’s forecast is 96, heat index 106, and tomorrow’s is 94, heat index 104, but most of next week will be in the 80s – with overnights in the 60s. So that’s good.

No word on Aji’s grandson so I’m betting he’s holding his own. If Wings’s family is anything like mine, they’ll only update if he’s worse or going into surgery or something. Not that things are great for Aji & Wings – their water pump was dead yesterday morning. By night after a long hot day of no water, lots of worrying, & $550 in cash shelled out they had water again. Thank the goddesses/gods it wasn’t the pump itself, “just” a switch or regulator of some kind. The pump itself would have meant ~$4K and weeks without water/having to haul in water.

    Time to get to my boosting. Holding the Good/Healing Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
