Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.
Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).
The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.
So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?
…
NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

Good morning. Back remains stiff, but I have a workout appointment at noon so I will work out today. For work, I’ll be doing training videos. Well, after the astronomy shows are over, I’ll do file cleanup during them.
Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …
It is 75 degrees in Tucson ???? with an expected daytime high of 99. Sunny skies are in the forecast. I think it will get much hotter because the sky is crystal clear and there is 0% chance of rain. The stars were spectacular this morning and I saw Orion’s Belt clearly over the mountains again. Last night we got a literal 5 minute downpour at about 9pm – a cloud appeared over us, dumped rain, then disappeared. It is definitely different living here!
Teamster president and traitorous ahole Sean O’Brien got his reward for appearing at the RNC to give a tongue bath to Donald Trump – mockery of unions and the rights of unions to strike. TFG and his rich buddy were heehawing about how much fun it is to fire striking workers on their Xitter site. It was good to see that the National Black Caucus of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters broke with the national union and endorsed Kamala. I hope O’Brien gets kicked to the curb. Union members should NOT vote for Republicans, period. As a commentator on LGM snarkily pointed out:
Polls are tricky things and to live and die by the polls is dangerous – BUT – the polls are identifying a momentum shift and the very definite bandwagon effect. For the first time in this presidential cycle, the Democratic nominee, in this case Kamala Harris, is seen as “better on the economy” than tRump. Keep up the joyfulness, Kamala, it is working to get people excited for the future.
I reviewed the notes on the site migration and this time I think I have it right. I am going to put the .net moose into maintenance mode at about 1pm Eastern time to give everyone a chance to check in and then I am going to do a complete backup and turn on an automated migration tool. It will either work seamlessly or ruin everything! Actually, the ruin everything is unlikely but it could make a mess at the new hosting location which will be easy to repair (delete and restart). If it works as advertised, it will take a lot of the grunt work out of the process. If it doesn’t work, I still have the manual migration option available.
As I mentioned, I am no longer on Twitter so if something goes haywire for you that I am not seeing, contact me at my hotmail account. If your motleymoose.net login does not work, go to motleymoose.com. Be aware that the new site uses https so old links may not work until changed.
See all y’all later!
It is almost as if the web site hosting knows it is getting dumped – today I had the spinning circle of doom on Fierce’s and got booted out of the system. :(
It is done. I have turned off Maintenance Mode on motleymoose.com.
it sent me over here neat as you please, and I just had to look up my password in firefox
Yay! Yes, the new site won’t remember cached passwords but should remember them after you reenter (and re-cache).
There is one feature I need to add to speed up the website at the new host. I will do it over the weekend when I have time to play with it.
It’s 80 already heading up for 96, heat index 106, and sunny. I’m eating oatmeal and waiting for the washer to finish running so I can hang out the laundry. The cats are all positioned around the back door ready to escape. sigh. Still waiting on the inverter. I haven’t a clue how long it takes for one to actually get to where it’s going once it’s shipped. I’m hoping we don’t complete week 8 without generation. But we could.
Mixed and grilled 5 weeks’ worth of breakfast sausages yesterday. So I’m set for daily protein until at least Sunday the 24th. Which is good. I’m looking at going out 3 more times this month. I hope. You’d think the skin on my nose would be used to the masks by now. Nope. It’s getting moresensitive. And I purely don’t know what to do about that. Oh well. I guess I’d best check in at Xitter, Spoutible, & Bluesky even if I don’t have time to actually start boosting before I need to hang out laundry. Holding the Good/Healing Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Wait, bfitz, did I miss something? Were you informed that the inverter would ship?
{{{Diana}}} Yes, it shipped Monday and I was informed of it Tuesday. It was the installer’s reply email when I sent him a reminder that I’d be filing complaint & putting SolarEdge on blast Wednesday if we didn’t have a ship date by the time I read my morning email but I’d make it clear in my blast that it was SolarEdge and not Ozark Solar that was the problem. So now we’re waiting for it to get here so he can install it.
WAY TO GO, GURRL!
Proud of you. I do believe that sweet you is becoming quite feisty in your senior years.
Good Wednesday morning, Moosekind! It’s only 9:30 and there’s already been a flurry of emails about Nora’s volleyball scrimmage this afternoon. We’re having another beautiful, bone-dry day here in Ashburn. It was 66 F. when we got up this morning, now 72 F., going up to 87 F.
Good luck with the migration, Jan! I love your accounts of the night sky. It’s been so clear here that I’ve been able to see Her Highness in the evening sky for the last two nights! Hope to see the full moon on the 19th.
Today is the day I have to assume full costume and rehearse my little play at 4:15. I need to text Leading Man that he should have bare ankles under his trousers. Dear Goddess, how is this going to end?
The Nurse-Practitioner told me the redness and swelling are due to allergies. No, she doesn’t know what’s causing the allergies. She said to keep on taking Allegra every day and to use the strong cream for which the Dermatology department phoned in a prescription. It seems to be working, because I’m not scratching, but we’ll see.
Tonight I have to judge auditions again. The table for the judges is right up front at the stage. Judges—it sounds so Biblical!
Last night at the postcard-writing party I heard rumors of a Watch Party in the theater next Thursday, so that we Progressives can watch Kamala accepting the nomination! And this morning, as I rummaged through my drawer to find a pair of stockings, I found a “Kamala Harris: For the People” shirt from 4 years ago! Yay! I’ll wear political shirts all next week. Yesterday for the postcards I wore my pink “With fear for our democracy, I dissent—Justice Sonia Sotomayor” shirt.
Feeling very excited. Now I’ve got to get ready to go to the Farmers’ Market to see whether they have any peaches.
Princesspat, did RonK get any blackberries yesterday?
Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.
Seeing the moon right now would make me have to go outside in the evening and I am often too tired for a walk at night. I will wait until she appears over my mountains or peeks into my office window in the early morning.
Wednesday Meese. Looking at the power outages in PR from Ernesto
If you are seeing this, you are on the new hosting! Bon appétit!
Yay!
Good afternoon, and hello new site. Thanks Jan! Busy day with computer issues and laundry. My older computers are having trouble staying connected to the internet, something has changed with Comcast, the credit card Ron lost 2 weeks ago has finally been replaced, Elsa’s air tag is now connected to my phone…… my head is spinning! Best wishes to all for a quiet evening.
Glad you were able to connect! I noticed that there is something odd about the login from my cell phone. You click login and it doesn’t go anywhere but you can click to get to the website. I will look at it tomorrow. I had no problem from a computer browser.
Diana, I thought you would appreciate this retort on BlueSky in response to JD Vance’s latest outrage: saying that the only purpose for post-menopausal females is to be “grandmothers providing free child care.”
https://bsky.app/profile/kashana.bsky.social/post/3kzpodowizw2k
LOL, thank you! I enjoyed being a nanny-granny, although it was exhausting because I was already so old.
But look how they turned out! Both Nora and Karl are in Advanced Academic Placement because their wild-eyed Witch of a granny started reading to them when they were two months old.
I think I am here :)
Yes, you are! I am not quite done tuning the site so if it feels a little slow, it might be. The most important thing isn’t speed (although that would be nice) but stability. The 508 Resource Limit Reached is a huge PITA since it loses our brilliant comments!
You are indeed, and more beautiful than ever.
It is nice to have the WNBA playing again. The USA team was fun to watch but they weren’t as much a team as the WNBA teams are.
Good morning. Got my walk/run done — I seem to be at a plateau with 6 minutes running; I can manage 30-45 second sprints after that. Maybe I’ll do better when it isn’t 80 degrees at 5:30 am. Anyway, in the office. Sigh. My comment on JD Vance’s latest: thanks for getting us Dems an absolute army of new volunteers, guy. Because, wow. Any woman over 40 who was on the fence is surely on our side of it now.
Oh – I saw Jupiter & Mars while I was walking! They are very close in the sky, so it’s easy to pick them out. Really neat.
By the time I got up, the only thing left in the eastern pre-dawn sky was the flickering Morning Star (Venus) over the mountain top.
You both are well versed in planetary matters! I’m afraid I wouldn’t recognize Jupiter, Mars, and Venus if they fell to earth and started staring me in the face. I do have an app called SkyView Lite, but I always seem to be in a hurry, so haven’t used it.
I did see the half-moon last night, silvery because the Auditions broke up at 8:30-ish, and bowed to her. I don’t care if passers-by think I’m crazy. They’re probably right.
Yes, someone posted a funny comment on Bsky “Join our Zoom ‘Postmenopausal Women for Harris” at 7pm Thursday”. Ha!!
Heh!
Good morning, meeses! Thursday …
It is 75 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 102. Sunny skies are in the forecast. Yesterday it did indeed get over 100 and the newest forecast is that we will stay over 100 but not in dangerous heat for at least the next 10 days. At least the humidity is down.
I thought it was funny that RFKjr wanted to leverage an endorsement for Harris-Walz into a spot in her administration. Sheesh, an endorsement from him would cause people to not want to vote for Kamala! The man lacks any self-awareness.
I am wondering if the people who vetted JD Vance missed his out and proud misogyny or if that was a characteristic they admired? Every day reveals another awful thing he has said about the value of women in our country.
The Republican legislature in Arizona won permission to swap “unborn human being” for “fetus” in the information about the pro-abortion referendum on the November ballot. It will make no real difference – the language will not be on the referendum question itself, it is part of a voters guide that is mailed to all voters. Everyone who signed the petition and everyone who wants this amendment will know who put that language in and it is unlikely to persuade a single person to change their vote (“oh, no! A fetus is an unborn human being?!? I must vote NO!”). The people working on the referendum have a ton of money available to promote the Yes vote and will make sure everyone knows where that language came from. If anything, it might persuade more people to vote against the mouthbreathers in the Republican legislature and maybe just maybe flip it Blue.
I have many things to do today, one of which is to get my walk in before it gets too hot. I have been trying to do that between 6:00 and 6:30 so time is wasting.
See all y’all later!
I will be installing a feature called SuperCache after everyone checks in today. The site seems (to me) a little slow when posting a comment and I am hoping that helps. If you see the “www.motleymoose.com” in the lower left hand corner of the screen (or the progress bar on a phone or tablet) the comment is still posting.
I still have to migrate the moose archives which I will do later this morning. The migration tool is amazing – fill in three fields and 30 minutes later everything is transferred and working. A few plug-ins did not survive the move and needed to be reinstalled but that is all.
Once everything is set up how I want it, I will update the WordPress version but probably not until the weekend.
Thank you!
(Hopefully) Will there be an edit button?
The hosting change likely won’t help that but just being where the site does not crash will give me inspiration to restart my search for a solution.
It’s 79 outside 77 inside and the A/C will probably kick on soon. Sigh. Heading for 97, heat index 107, and I’m glad I don’t have to go anywhere today. Sunny. It would be a lovely production day if my PV system was working.
I had to re-log in of course, once I got here, and was confused that the comments I’d fierced at the old site were showing as if I hadn’t. But turns out it’s only the pre-migration comments. The post-migration ones are fiercing just fine. Which is good. Not being able to fierce usually means I’ve been logged out and have to sign in again. Or it did at the old site anyway.
Aji’s & Wings’s young grandson is in hospital. Yesterday Aji said something went wrong with a “routine” operation and they’d airlifted the boy to ABQ. She was asking for prayers. I did a quick check before I logged in here but no updates so I assume they still need prayers.
An Amazon order I placed Monday afternoon is coming in multiple deliveries. Figures. Of the 6 items I ordered 3 came yesterday in 2 boxes (1 via Prime – don’t know why because I don’t have Prime – & 1 via USPS). The cats are happy with new boxes. I thought I’d ordered a case of Q ginger ale but when I doubled-checked it was only a 4-pack. It did come yesterday. It’s more gingery than the “commercial” brands, doesn’t use HFCS, and comes in small cans. All wins. I just can’t find it around here. Oh well. Hoping the other 3 items show up today. Especially the flea goo as it’s time to re-goo the cats. Meanwhile, off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
The Fiercing is done via a third party site called “ULike” and it is tied to the site address. So when we moved from the .net to the .com, we lost the old likes. If that is the only thing we lost, it was a success!
👍👍
Good Thursday morning, Meese, and happy Diana’s day! You’re supposed to take your hunting dogs into the woods and let them roam on this day. The one time I tried that, years ago, the poor dears didn’t understand what was expected of them and ran back to Mommy so she could put their leashes on again.
Today is yet another beautiful day with low humidity. It was 66 F. when we woke up, now 73 F. heading for 90 F. Yesterday was absolutely exhausting, but I managed to get 3.5 miles or something like that in steps.
So, yesterday was the rehearsal with the hat. When Leading Man stepped out of the second-floor elevator, he looked so unlike his usual self (polo shirt, Bermudas, sandals) that I nearly blinked in surprise. However, he looked very handsome in his navy blue blazer, brown trousers, collared shirt and tie. We each complimented the other on how well we looked. I was wearing a black hat with a full-length face veil, a black dress, elbow-length black gloves, dark stockings, and black shoes. J. admitted us to her apartment, and then C. showed up to read the introduction.
So we went through it a couple of times, although they had trouble with the words “libidinous” in the introduction and “lubricious” in the playlet itself. “Is there another word we could use instead of ‘lubricious’?” Leading Man inquired. “Don’t mess with Diana’s words,” J., the Costumer, warned. I directed a beady glance at Leading Man and he hastily agreed that we’d keep ‘lubricious’, even if the entire audience whips out their cellphones and googles it.
J. actually blinked at one point during the play and laughed at a couple of the other lines. “It’s definitely risque. I think you’ll get some laughs,” she said.
We agreed on one more rehearsal, in the actual venue, to test the efficacy of our projected voices. L.M. said his wife would attend the actual performance on Saturday. He added, “She asked me if she should scream and shout.” J., C., and I exchanged a look. “Uh, er, I hope she’s joking,” I said feebly. Dear Goddess, I shall die if she does. I have a plan for that if it happens, but it’s to be hoped the situation won’t arise.
Anyway, after that I went off to recover and eat dinner. I had to be at Auditions at 6:45 p.m. By 8:30 p.m. we had cast everyone who auditioned. I didn’t audition, but they cast ME anyway as the Elevator Voice! I do hope I can get out of it, somehow. I’ll work on it.
Well, that’s quite enough from me. This is a nice site. I like the pale pink walls and the skylights. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!
Did the site background change? Hmmm. My page looks just like it used to. Or are you teasing! :)
When I went to check the Admin email to makes sure no one was frantically trying to get logged in, I noticed two things that may explain why the old site kept sucking so much. On May 16th, they moved the server to a new data center in downtown Ashburn, Va. Then about two months later (on July 12th) they said that the server we were on was failing because it was old and they moved us to a new one. So two moves in 3 months including one that changed all the “how to get there” instructions probably did not help. I will be glad to be done with them. They were once very good and I had all my customers on them – now the Moose is the last one left there.
Just teasing. Moves to me mean new surroundings, added light sources, and fresh paint. The Moose Pond looks the same as always. Thank you, Blog Goddess!
Good morning, 58 and sunny in my garden today. Our son is on his way to Alaska and will soon be on The Snow Goose as part of the crew returning to Bellingham. So Elsa is staying with us and she is full of energy this morning. Going to be a busy 10 days! Best wishes to all.
I will be taking the new site into Maintenance Mode at 1pm Eastern time for what I expect to be less than an hour. I have three things I want to do and I want to do full backups first.
I will not be migrating the archived moose site until I get the regular moose bellowing perfectly.
Completed updates. I will let them sit for a while.
If you encountered a 503 issue this afternoon, that was part of what the changes were trying to fix.
Please report any problems after 2pm Eastern time here or to the Admin email.
Friday Meese. 63 here in Kingston going up to 87. Delighted to have the WNBA back to watch. In Caribbean Matters (moved to Saturday morning) will be featuring three Black female athletes from the Caribbean who won gold in the Olympics for their countries for the first time (most Olympics watchers had no clue were St. Lucia and Dominica even are)
Puerto Rico
“no clue where”
I am glad to have the WNBA back also. The USA Basketball Team was not so much a team as a collection of players. A WNBA team playing together is much more fun to watch. Your Liberty had an amazing game! You wonder why Cheryl Reeve did not play Ionescu at the point instead of the “returning from injury and not like last year” Chelsea Gray. They were fine sitting down a banged up Diana Taurasi (which I agree with) but there was definitely some Ace bias. In any event, the Mercury had a good game and Copper shone again! I am sure Sky fans were sad to see her playing against them instead of for them. They got a bunch of draft picks for her and turned them into some rookies but it will be a while before they start winning again.
Sadly, most people don’t know anything about any place except where they live and have no curiosity. Many people think that Dominica is just a different way of saying Dominican Republic.
I was very upset that Sabrina didn’t get played! Had a ball watching my Liberty come back with a big bang. Go Stewie!
Good morning. Did my walk, just a walk because with the heat index (yes, heat index at 5:30 am) it’s 85 degrees out there. The Space Cadets for Harris call was so much fun — real scientists and Star Trek people. Raised $60K last I heard. In the office, but we’re having the August birthday party today so at least there’s that.
Good morning, meeses! Finally Friday …
It is 79 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 104 Sunny skies are in the forecast. I can see the stars clearly but there is a slight wispy line of clouds in the middle of the morning sky.
I wonder how the bully MAGAts are enjoying seeing their god whining on TV about how people are mean to him? That certainly doesn’t match with the manly persona he tries to project on his ads. It is almost as if he had a final psychotic break when the troubled MAGA kid from Ohio took a pot shot at him. A normal person would certainly be rattled and the bluff and braggadocio he has put up to protect his precarious mental state was definitely a house of cards. If he loses it completely do the MAGAts put JD Freaking Vance in as the presidential candidate? I saw that his approval rating is underwater by 9.5 points, worse than even Sarah Palin at her lowest point. The blind spot that MAGAts have about what normal people see as serious character flaws may be coming home to roost with the JD pick.
I set aside boring things to do things I wanted to do yesterday so I am a bit behind. I may put them aside for another day and take a whack at my ridiculously overflowing Inbox.
See all y’all later!
Update on the web site migration:
Update at 10:30 am EDT:
The site will be offline for hosting service maintenance between 2pm and 8pm Eastern Time. There will not be a Maintenance Mode sign on the site – it will just not resolve. It may not remember your cached login credentials because it will be physically on a different server. Fingers crossed that this solves the speed issues!!
It was completed at 3pm EDT and took less than a half hour. All systems go!!
Please report any problems here or to the Admin email.
It’s 76 heading for 97, heat index 107, and sunny. This is supposed to be the hottest for a bit. We start inching down tomorrow. Widget says 80s next week – and what’s even better, overnights in the 60s. Still waiting on the inverter to be delivered. I got all my Amazon order except the flea goo. I hope it gets here soon. The cats are overdue.
A/C just kicked on. That tells me what I already knew – we’ve had overnights in the mid to upper 70s for more than 3 days running. My house is insulated well enough it takes that long to thoroughly heat it up. Gas meter is supposed to be replaced this afternoon. The crew chief who set up the “appointment” said his guys wouldn’t have a problem removing the brush that’s currently hiding it. (Dropped from above when the SWEPCO guy trimmed it off my power line.) He also said “no problem” about the one coming inside to relight the water heater pilot light to be masked. I told him I’d hand the guy a mask if he showed up without one. Which I will.
No word on Aji’s grandson so prayers up still, please.
Taters steaming. I wish the last batch I steamed had lasted just a bit longer – until the cooler weather next week. Oh well. Time to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}
Good morning, 63 and cloudy in my garden today. Elsa is getting her morning exercise running up and down the stairs so my house is not so quiet this morning. She is a busy dog, but makes me smile so all’s well. Best wishes to all.
