Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: August 18th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good morning. Watching local news. No cooking this weekend, just thawing stuff out. I have an extra in-office day next week, really hate that idea. I hope it isn’t a precursor to taking away wfh. Anyway, still happy from the convention. My neighbor, who isn’t political, stopped me to talk about it. Good sign.

  2. It’s 78 outside, 74 inside, and sunny at the moment. The house is already closed up. I expect the A/C will come on in the early afternoon. Yesterday we generated 16.2 KWHs and the m-t-d is 54.7 – we shall see what the day brings.

    Still working on the assumption that not hearing from anybody is good. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good/Healing Thought for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  3. Good Saturday morning, Meese! It’s kind of a “meh” day here—the blue is veiled by white, the sunlight is dim. I’ve enjoyed the autumn-like weather we’ve been having, but next week we’ll be back to blazing heat. Would like to think it will be summer’ last gasp. Right now it’s 70 F., on its way up to 85 F., and I was never able to see Herself this month, even on a clear night. Bummer.

    Yesterday was exhausting, but I don’t have to go anywhere today except the Deli to pick up lunch. Last night’s rehearsal was stupid. The actor who is playing “Noah” in another play told me the role of elevator operator was a waste of my talent. Oh well, I’ll do it to please the Fair Kate, of whom I am already very fond. That lady really knows theatre, after a lifetime in it.

    My assignment for the weekend is to read the .pdf of our forthcoming anthology and give the results to the team by 2 p.m. tomorrow. For fun, I get to fold all the laundry I haven’t folded yet. I’d better get busy!

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond, and especially to President Biden and Madame Vice President Harris!

  4. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 75 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 97. It was cloudy over the mountains when I got up but the sun is out now. It will probably cloud up later this afternoon. Yesterday we had a very long and noisy thunderstorm that had the washes running and made the Desert Quail babies that live behind us run and hide.

    I really can’t feel sorry for people who got sick standing outside in 104 degree heat waiting to see Donald Trump and Robert Kennedy Jr display their awfulness in Phoenix. That they are stupid and self-destructive has already been established, this should surprise no one. The Harris-Walz rally in the same venue did not have this problem because lines were not allowed to form and because Democrats are not stupid and self-destructive.

    The “where’s the joy, show me the policies” media can STFU. The policies are there, they just want to ignore them because it does not fit into their narrative about Kamala, a narrative SET BY THE RIGHT-WING MEDIA and followed by the lazy national media who needs clicks. I am only going to click on positive stories and find ways to win the election not ways to harsh my buzz. Harumph!!

    I finished one big part of the project I had hoped to finish yesterday but ran out of time on. I have all weekend to finish it now but I am going to push to get it done now so that the rest of the weekend I do not have projects hanging over me. We are hoping to go for a hike in the state park tomorrow (Sunday) morning now the temperatures are coming down.

    See all y’all later!

  5. Good morning, 56 and raining in Bellingham today. Weather permitting our son should be home tomorrow. Elsa has been a good dog but she will be happy to see him and to have her long walks again. He was driving the boat yesterday when a pod of whales appeared, but his phone service is still spotty so no pictures yet. Between salmon, wolves, bears and whales this has been a wild life adventure. Looks like the rain has settled in so I’ll be in my sewing room today. Best wishes to all.
